WBA/WBC/IBF champion Bernard Hopkins vs. WBO champion Oscar De La Hoya

Seriously can not wait for this fight. It's gonna be a rocketbuster. Hopkins hasn't lost in 11 years but at 39, time could be catching up to him. De La Hoya's record speaks for itself - 8 World titles at 6 different weights. Hopkins has never fought outside this weight while De La Hoya is above his natural fighting weight.

Hopkins is going in as the favourite. 6 months ago I would have betted on him too but I just can't right off Oscar. As fight time has got closer, I just have the feeling De La Hoya is going to take it late with a stoppage or a points decision. The fight game needs a De La Hoya win. I think Oscar's chin is too strong even at middleweight and Hopkins didn't look convincing last time out (mind you, neither did De La Hoya) and speed and stamina might be the key.

I'm not massively into boxing but people are talking about this as De La Hoya's last match if he loses. What do you think?

I think it's his last if he wins although others don't.

So he'll go out on top. Mind you, this was the information I got from The Sun so I'm taking it with a pinch of salt.

If Colin Hart wrote it, I'd at least consider it. He is quite good.

I can't remember who wrote it, just that they said it could be the last fight for both fighters.
I don't have Sky Sports so I'm pretty pissed that I'm not going to be able to watch it. Do you know if BBC are showing highlights?

Does this mean Oscar can't even live up to the name of his own tv show: The Next Great Champ?

I was sitting there thinking "...What?"

That body punch was a little weak, but de la hoya said he just caught him in the right spot.

I bet you wouldn't of took it in the first round never mind after 9 grueling rounds. Loads of fights are ended by good body shots anyway

Well there was no way he was getting KO'd with a head punch. His chin is far too strong. Both guys looked like champions and acted like champions after the fight so all the respect in the world to them both.

I personally had DLH winning by 2 rounds going into the 9th.

Hopkins basically called out Roy Jones Jnr and Antonio Tarver after the fight. DLH never spoke of retirement and hinted at a next fight with the winner or Trinidad and Mayorga.

Word. It surprised me that BHop showed any class personally. Good up for him.

This loss really doesn't hurt DLH. This win gives BH credibility to the average person who deosn't really follow non HeavyWeights.

I can't see DLH retiring yet. I think he needs to win a fight in order to retire from boxing.

I have been watching Hopkins for the last couple of years, and he has impressed me. This should elevate his career even more.

As for Paranoid Rattlesnake, LOL. You're funny.

I thought Hopkins controlled most of the fight. I gave DLH the first two rounds, but I thought Hopkins was pretty much in control form then on. The KO sealed the deal, which is great, I thought the fight needed a deicsive win.

Both guys looked good, but I think DLH was over matched in that weight class. But hey, he got $30 mil for the fight, nobody should be too upset for him.
