just a little series i came up with, kinda like "rate the wrestler, and kind of like that thing they do in Maxim magazine. Problem is I am not a computer whiz, so the formating will basically suck. anyway its gonna look something like this:
BRET HART vs. KURT ANGLE
wrestling They are both great. Kurt Angle, as an Olympic gold medalist is as legit as they come. but, there is more to it than just legitimate wrestling. i think Bret Hart was slightly better at selling his opponents offense, but then, he never had to feud with someone like Rey Mysterio. They could both carry anyone to a great match. because there are too many ways to look at this: advantage: draw - 0-0
mic skills who can cut a better promo? Bret Hart was good. whether playing a face or a heel his mic work was always convincing. and convincingness is one thing that Angle's promos generally lack. and as a face i think Angles promos kinda suck. but as a heel Angle's promos are just so damn hilarious and entertainment is what its all about:
advantage: Angle - 0-1
Work Rate both had/have a good work rate with Hitman's being slightly better on account of Angle's broken freakin' neck.
advantage: Hitman - 1-1
"IT" factor both definitely have it. "it" is what makes you realize that this person is going to be a star the moment you see them. they both have it. i think Bret had a little something extra, in that he exuded a certain love and respect for the wrestling business. advantage: Hitman - 2-1
finisher sharpshooter vs. Angle slam/ankle lock. angle slam is weak, so lets just make it sharpshooter vs. ankle lock. here is what i like and dont like about them. sharp shooter is very intricate and seemingly difficult to apply. but just attempting to put it on is a HUGE pop moment now days. the ankle lock is not a very original move, and it seems like in a big match it has to be applied forty times and for a whole 7 minutes befor it works. but it can be applied very quickly and easily and from out of nowhere. plus its pretty cool when he undoes the straps in order to move in for the ankle lock. advantage: Hitman - 3-1
heat face heat easily goes to Bret IMO. as a face Kurt Angle is just too much of a dork. Heel heat is a lot closer of a contest. the problem here for Angle is that nowadays wrestlers turn so often that the characters are not convincing as faces or heels. when Bret went heal it was more of a 'big deal'. the problem here for Bret is that even as a heel he came off as believing that he was 'in the right', making him sympethetic even as a heel. advantage: Hitman - 4-1
contribution to wrestling hitman wins it. when Kurt Angle retires, i dont think his contribution to wrestling will stand up to Hart's. advantage: Hitman - 5-1
so Hitman came out on top. but let me say this. IMO Kurt Angle is the best wrestler in wwe today, and has been for quite some time. and the fact that, according to my calculations, he is not as good as Hitman was, is not Kurt Angles fault. it has more to do with the climate of wrestling these days
