While listening to some Blink (like I do 90% of the time I listen to music), I kind of came to a revelation, that I really like Blink's earlier stuff because it's just so simple and to the point. Like stuff off Dude Ranch and Enema of the State, the songs aren't complicated at all, and they're catchy as hell. Like Dumpweed, the entire song is 3 different chords avec intro/bridge, and it is like one of their best songs. And Hold On, the song is like 3 chords, plus that little doo-dah part that is pwn. It is another great song. Dick Lips is probably my favourite song ever, and it can be played entirely on one string (except that little breakdown near the end, you need to play one note on open E), and it it awesome.

I dunnnnooooooooooooo, simple songs are just the man. The lyrics aren't that deep, but they get the message across. The guitar/bass/drums/etc are just simple, but they're catchy and just sound good. I don't know, I was listening to Where You Want To Be by TBS, and I like it and all, but it just sounds really over-complicated, if that makes sense.

BASICALLY, what I'm saying is that just because a band is less talented (or just chooses to be, as Blink have shown that they are capable of making more 'advanced' songs) doesn't mean the music isn't good or anything. I know people will be like "STFU Blink sucks and you smell" but I don't care  Just sayinggggggggg simple stuff is  sometimes

Simple works, but quite often I can't respect a band if simple is all they are capable of.

Plus it is fun to play on guitar when you suck. :shifty:

i dunno

simple songs are awesome for the first 2-3 listens.

after that i need more interesting weird stuff for me to listen out for and be all "aslkfls, that bit is the man" and so on.

that being said, it doesn't get much more simple than the beatles and they fucking rule.

Pearl Jam is also good to listen to when you're looking for simple music.

True. 'Tis why I said "quite often" and not always because some bands have mastered simplicity.

The best simple song ever is "Crystal Mountain" by Death.

First of all, nothing Blink182 has ever written is complicated compared to the rest of the music world.

Secondly, music can be simple, but it has to be good in order to be good. There's lots of simple music that sucks, lots of simple music that's good. There's lots of complicated music that's good, and lots of complicated music that sucks. It all comes down to creativity, and generally down to what you like to listen to. I refer to "simple" in terms of not only technical ability and convolution, but in terms of what's being represented. Dream Theater, for example, writes very simple music. It may be technically insane, but the same "check us out, we play really fast" approach appears in every single song. In contrast, stuff like The Cows is very simple music to play, but it fucking rules.

There are lots of bands who also write stuff that's TOO simple. Not only that, they write album after album of the same simple stuff. I get sick of that, because I prefer to listen to something that's not repetitive, dull, and stupid.

Dream Theater isn't all about speed. If you think so, you haven't given them a proper listen.

They used to be my favorite band. I've heard all of their albums. They're about showcasing their musical ability, and that's about it. Their lyrics suck and their songs make no sense.

Their song structures are insanely awesome.
