Bossman Traylor passes away
by Dave Meltzer
Dave@wrestlingobserver.com
Ray "Big Bossman" Traylor passed away suddenly at his home tonight. Traylor, who was 42, got his start as Jim Cornette's bodyguard Big Bubba Rogers in 1986 after he left his job as a prison guard in Marietta, GA.
After leaving Crockett promotions over pay, his real life job became is gimmick as the Big Bossman, the evil prison guard, who had a big run with Hulk Hogan.
He was also a major star with All Japan Pro Wrestling as Big Bubba in the 90s, before returning to the WWF in recent years.
At this point his death is a mystery. He had not been complaining of feeling bad, other than a bad knee. His wife found him in a room tonight and he wasn't breathing. Paramedica were unable to revive him.

This caught me off guard. :(
RIP Ray Traylor. You were one hell of an entertainer and you will be missed.
This is a very sad story to say the least. Although not remembered for his wrestling ability, he definitely made me afraid of going to jail when I was a kid. RIP Ray Traylor.

Holy SHIT!!!
MY god, that is not right. :'(
I was never a huge fan of the Big Boss Man (during his stint with the corporation), but he was a great entertainer, who got the very most out of what talent he had.
I guess for me, ray traylor will be remembered as being part of old and middle school wrestling, and then coming back and being the heavy in the corporation.
RIP Big Boss Man :(

He was a great talent and a heel at that. It just really sucks all these talents pass away at a young age nowadays and Bossman is another.

Thia is a huge tragedy. No matter what he was doing, the Boss Man was a great performer. My first memory of him is his Wrestlemania VII match with Mr. Perfect for the Intercontinental Title. I was so enraged that Perfect lost by disqualification (or count-out? That part of the memory's a little shady), but looking back I now realize it was because Ray Traylor made me care so much about him. I can't believe that both he and Hennig are gone.
In addition to playing the babyface, his heel turns (his alliance with Slick in the late '80s and being the heavy for the Corporation) were also very good. I was half hoping that, if WWE was going to continue in their trend of bringing back old Corporate Ministry members, they'd bring Ray in.
Unfortunately, now we'll never get another Boss Man comeback.
I am so saddened by this. This sucks. Rest in peace, Ray.

RIP :(
WWE.com posted an artical on Bossman...
World Wrestling Entertainment is saddened by the loss of Ray Traylor, professionally known as the Big Boss Man. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and friends.
Inside the wrestling ring, Boss Man was one of the most feared and respected Superstars of his time. Outside the ring, however, Traylor was a kind, gentle, charitable, compassionate family man. While his WWE persona was known for antagonizing others, the real Traylor stopped at nothing to put smiles on the faces of the children he would meet.
Traylor began wrestling in 1984. While serving as a prison guard in Cobb County, Georgia, Traylor caught the attention of a local Atlanta wrestling booker. After months of learning the ropes and paying his dues, Traylor was re-christened Big Bubba Rogers. Not long after, Big Bubba Rogers was in main events all over the country, serving as Jim Cornette’s bodyguard.
A few years later, Traylor traveled to Stamford, Connecticut, to meet with Vince McMahon. Shortly thereafter, the Big Boss Man was created.
As a member of WWE, Big Boss Man rapidly moved up the ranks to main event status. It was as the Boss Man in WWE that Traylor enjoyed his greatest success, facing off against many huge names – Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage and Andre the Giant.
Ray's spirit and warm nature will never be forgotten.

What the...
I definitely grew up with him. As a kid, I despised him, because he was such an intimidating, dislikeable guy. I didn't like him so much when he came back because he didn't really do anything, though his outfit was a lot better.
Still, no matter how much you flame a wrestler for being good or bad, you never want to see this happen. I've never heard of him being a bad person or anything like that. This is damn near tragic... to die so young.
Rest in Peace, Bossman. Maybe have a cup of tea with Big Show's dad... have some laughs over that angle.

Man, unbelievable, unexpected. Big Boss Man was one of my favorites when I was a little kid.
If you ever take a trip down to Cobb County Gerogia, you better read the signs, respect the law and order. You'll serve hard time, hard time. You know the Big Boss Man will make ya walk the line, you better watch out or you'll be serving hard time.
He carries a big stick, a ball and chain too. If you're looking for trouble, he'll be coming after you, hard time, hard time. You know the Big Boss Man will make ya walk the line, you better watch out or you'll be serving hard time.

I know this may sound sick, but I just got back from my holiday and I was thinking in my head that someone close to the WWE had died. I just had a feeling. Shame it had to be right. :'(
Ray Traylor may not have had great ring skills, but his ability to play his character is something missing from the WWE today. The Big Bossman character had an aura around it, something only Ray could provide. My condolences go out to Ra's friends and family through this tough time. Although far too premature, I hope Ray's death was under pleasant circumstances. :wavesad:
