Hey yo. Once again, I'm your DJ for the evening, as Helmsphere battles it out with a stomach virus. Yesterday was my first time running the show and the wrestler being rated was none other than Alex Wright, who scored a 73. Other wrestlers to achieve this score include Low Ki and Steve Corino.

Anywho, today's wrestler is a personal favourite of mine. And no, it's not because he's Canadian, no, it's not because he used to live in my home town of Edmonton. It's because he is one of the 3 best technical wrestlers who can still go. He is the former WCW World Heavyweight Champion, he is the former WWE World Heavywight Champion, he is the Canadian Crippler, he is the Rabid Wolverine, he is the master of the Crippler Crossface, he is Chris Benoit.

Happy voting, yo.

simply because of his in-ring skills, IMO there's no way he can get a 9 because he really lacks charisma and promo skills

He has definitely provided some great matches with the likes of Booker (not the WWE crap - the WCW matches) and such, and was great in Japan and ECW. Not too hot 4 the WWE stuff recently - and while before he didn't get enough credit, now he seems to get too much.

:foc: People giving Bentoit a 6. He deserves more from his wrestling ability alone.

Ring ability: 10
Overness: 9 (He gets loud pops but not as loud as some others)
Work rate: 10
Charisma: 8.5
Finisher: 10 (I LOVE submission finishers. Especially Bentoit's)

Yep because those matches 3 way dance matches with HBK and HHH, matches with Orton, Angle, the shit load of tag matches from 2003, his matches with Jericho, Eddie, Austin, Rock, tag matches with Jericho were just no big deal. :wtf:. 6.5 unless you put a hge onus on mic skills is pretty silly. Especially given that you acknowledge great matches of the past and last time I checked the ratings are on overall careers not current form.

Each to their own I suppose I just disagree with your reasoning.

Maybe it is just me, because it seems that I've been watching wrestling a lot longer than most here and have seen more matches, etc... - that I feel a bit spoiled from watching wrestlers that were better than most of today's guys.

The general wrestling fans are so used to seeing garbage matches, one after another, that when they see a normal match, or one slightly above, it's made out to be a masterpiece.

I am rating his career overall, but just because you had 3 or 4 star matches in the past doesn't mean that you deserve a ten. Just like a guy like Flair, in his prime (or even up until 94, 95, 96) I'd have given him a 10. But when you look at his stuff today, and see what he has done to his name and legacy, it is hard to give him a high score.

To me, Benoit at this point is simply a slightly above average worker, who is possibly putting on better matches than the others on the programs he is on, but who isn't the best worker / wrestler alive, like he is made out to be.

Like you said, to each their own, and I support everyone's scores (except for Molly Fan's 2's  ), because their definitely entitled to pose an opinion and keep the board fun :)

9, no matter who's in the match, he can just about always give the crowd a good match. All the lowers the score is his mic skills, which in this day and age is valuable, and occassional uninteresting storylines that are given to him which insinuates to many that he is .."boring".

The general wrestling fans are so used to seeing garbage matches, one after another, that when they see a normal match, or one slightly above, it's made out to be a masterpiece.

See, I totally disagree with you there. I've been watching since mid 80's, so don't hold me to anything before that, although I have seen quite a few stuff before that. IMO, I think today's workers are much better then say WWF's workers from the 80's-96. Now I would say the top workers during that time were HBK, Bret, Owen, Dibiase, Steamboat, Roberts, Perfect, Von Erich, Dynamite, Hall, Savage, Flair, Santana. There is probably more, but that's off the top of my head. Now these batch of guys were putting on classic matches.

Now if you look at all the other talent back then (and these might have been nice guys, but I'm basing this strickly on wrestling ability) Typhoon, "The Goon," Battlecat, Babyface Doink, Brooklyn Brawler, Beefcake, JYD, Koko B. Ware, Warlord, Barbarian, Hogan, Warrior, Yokozuna, Lex Lugar, Nash, Taker, Boss Man, Hercules, Roma, etc........The list just goes on and on. AND REMEMBER: STRICKLY WRESTLING ABILITY. Not Overness, character, promo skills or ticket sales I'm basing this on. There were a lot of crap matches back then. And especially on those superstars and early Raw shows when they brought in no names to face established guys. You don't get that today...ever.

Today you have your Benoits, Angle, Eddie, Jericho, HBK, Xtian, Edge, RVD, Mysterio, HHH, Orton, Chavo, Haas, Benjamin, Booker and Edge who I consider your best workers. Probably missing people

But I just think all the others like Cena, Hurricane, Hardy, Big Show, Nunzio, Londo, Kidman, etc...are just so much better then say "The Goon," Kamala, Giant Gonzolez, Repo Man, etc...in terms of wrestling ability.

So what I basically saying is the middle or sucky guys in the WWF today are much better workers then the middle or sucky guys then back. So today's show is a much better product based on Wrestling ability then back then.

And that's my two cents.

The only thing that prevents me from giving him that extra 0.5 is his overall Promos could use a little more polishing. Even then he seems to be better at it.

Either way is Benoit is definatly one of todays finest :)

Benoit's charisma is when he rips people apart, when he made the rock tap... i'd count that as fucking charisma.. it was as if he was yelling "I AM THE FUCKING MAN"
I'd love to see benoit as an unstoppable heel... anyway..

and his mic/promo skills aren't that bad

9.5, this guy doesn't deserve anything lower than 9, i don't see how people are giving him 6..

It would certainly be a higher score but i am a huge fan of cHaRiSmA...Benoit does not have alot of it, but he is the "i dont need to gloat because you know i will kick your ass" type wrestler so he is an exception...but charisma, mic skills and non-ring stuff is important

Batsu

He would be a 10, but his mic skills lack if he isn't pissed off. Though, Benoit is pretty good at unintentional, unexpected humor, and he should play to that instead of trying to be Rock, or Austin. Benoit is more charismatic than people give him credit for being, but it is also so subtle that a lot of people don't notice it. Benoit sounds best on the mic or as a character when he's just angry. His barbs at Foley and Kevin Sullivan were classic. If he's calm, he gets nervous... but Benoit had the funniest segment on SmackDown when he said:

"I'm sick of Paul Heyman's crap,
and tonight I'm going to make these two bitches tap.
Word, Life."

imagine the humor of CHRIS BENOIT saying that stuff, and how could you go wrong?

Benoit has "reverse charisma"... and the fans very much seem to respect it now moreso than when he first came into WWE.

and anyone rating him anything below an 8 is on CRACK. That is all.
