Let's All Get Hammered At Xmas!
08 Oct 2004 Arch Enemy, The Haunted, Dark Tranquility, In Flames, Lacuna Coil, Chimaira, Caliban, Alter Bridge, Mad Capsule Markets, Atreyu, Everytime I Die and Bullet For My Valentine all team up for some Hammer sponsored gigs!
Let's face it, we all hate Xmas. It sucks. Crap telly, office party casualties stumbling all over the shop and those damned ghosts that keep visiting on December 24. So in an effort to get us all through the festering season with sanity intact, Hammer has an early Crimbo present for all our loyal readers.
We have IN FLAMES, LACUNA COIL, The Haunted and Atreyu. And that's just for starters. See, throughout the month of December Hammered At Xmas will bring you the best antidote to enforced jollity: the hottest, hardest and hoariest metal in the nation. There's loads more to be confirmed and Hammer will bring you updates in next month's issue and right here on Metal Hammer.co.uk. When we know, you'll know.
Bands confirmed so far are:
ALTER BRIDGE, who are Mark Tremonti, Scott Phillips and Brian Marshall, the blokes from Creed minus their 'spiritual' and increasingly nutty frontman Scott Stapp, with new singer and guitarist Myles Kennedy. Don't judge them by the standards of their previous incarnation: they kick ass. With a new album 'One Day Remains' hitting the shops, this will be the first opportunity most of us have to see them live. They play Manchester University on November 29, Wolverhampton Wulfrun Hall on December 1 and London Mean Fiddler 3.
MAD CAPSULE MARKETS, a genuinely nuts Japanese manga metal combo whose sound is like a head on collision between Fear Factory, Rage Against The Machine and Atari Teenage Riot. Current album 'Cistm Konfliqt' and the promotional monster dog robot model have been big favourites in the Hammer office. Now is our chance to see this jaw dropping combo in the flesh at London Islington Academy on December 6.
ATREYU, EVERYTIME I DIE and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE. The last time we saw Orange County vamp-metallers Atreyu was when they visited with Boysetsfire and Sepultura earlier this year. Since then we have rarely gone more than a few days without spinning 'The Curse', we shun the daylight and have stopped having garlic bread as a starter. This time they're bringing over Everytime I Die, hot from Ozzfest and the Dillinger Escape Plan tours, and the mighty Bullet For My Valentine, latest escapees from Wales, predictably compared to Lostprophets though as you'll see and hear there's much more to them than that. Catch this line-up at London Mean Fiddler on December 12.
ARCH ENEMY, THE HAUNTED, DARK TRANQUILITY plus special guests to be announced. A Swedish Apocalypse especially for you, kicking off with Dark Tranquility who are generally reckomned to be the band who kicked off the 'Gothenburg sound', bringing melodic Death Metal to the world. The Haunted's new album 'rEVOLVEr' is a strong candidate to be one of the albums of 2004, seeing a return to the fold of original singer Peter Dolving and a continuation on the path of pure aggression. A Haunted live set is always an event to remember so this would be an unmissable show even without headliners Arch Enemy. But hey, we've got Arch Enemy, so there really is no excuse not to be at the London Forum on December 17.
IN FLAMES and LACUNA COIL with CHIMAIRA and CALIBAN, plus one more bands to be confirmed. The biggie, a one-off show with four Hammer favourites! In Flames, winner of this year's Golden Gods Subterranea Award for best Underground Band. Lacuna Coil, officially Italy's biggest rock exports ever. Do we need to tell you any more about these bands? Thought not. Though we are still working on getting some rather tasty acts on this bill so keep checking the website. All that remains to tell you is that it's at London's Hammersmith Apollo on December 27.
So how, I hear you ask, do I go about getting tickets for this lot? Well, we will be announcing details of a competition where you can win a golden ticket that gets you into all the shows plus into the VIP areas for some backstage ligging. Tickets are available online at www.getLIVE.co.uk/hammered. There's also a hotline on 0870 400 0688.
Merry Xmas Hammer tribe!

Goddamnit, Lacuna Coil, Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquility, The Haunted, MCM (HOOOT live), all coming over here in December and by the looks of it, none gonna come up to Manchester.
Fuckin'a, I'd sell my family... hell, I'd give Jon-Lad to white slavers to use as a mule, to see Lacuna Coil. I think this is gonna be twice they've come here for a one off show and just gone to London.
