I just rented THUG 2, and I'm impressed so far. I just finished sweeping through the Training level, and there are some cool things you can do this time around. I like the Freakout meter, too. It's very satisfying to break my board in half over my head after falling at the end of a 20,000-point combo.
The storyline is interesting so far, and the mix of skaters is pretty cool. I'm not a fan of Bam Margera, so the fact that he's an important character annoys me, but I guess I'll live with it.
Anyone else played it?

Yes.
I have the first THUG. Pretty sick game.
I'm sure THUG 2 is really cool also, but I don't feel that a skateboarding game could be improved so much that it'd warrent me buying the sequal.
Does THUG 2 prove this theory wrong?

Yes.
With each update of the Tony Hawks series, Neversoft has provided something new in each one.
A lot of people have said that but I've never really seen it. I've always bought every other Tony Hawk game. Bought 1, rented 2, decided not to buy, bought 3, decided not to buy 4 after playing it, bought THUG.
Dunno, guess I'll just have to rent THUG 2 for myself.

Tis a good idea.
I got THUG2 yesterday, but I can't see it holding my interest, so I'll probably take it back when Donkey Konga comes out :$

I have a rental copy right now. Is it me or does the camera swing waaaaaay too fast when you get off your board. I actually feel kinda sick after too much running, and I never get motion sickness in real life.

It's not just you, Funky. It's kind of a bitch to do much on-foot, because I always overstep or something when the camera is trying to catch up. Like, I'll just walk off the edge of a platform while trying to grab a ladder or something.
How weird are the hidden characters in this game?

I'm playing through on the Sick difficulty and it's actually proving to be a bit challenging. I can't believe I have to do a 400,000 point combo just to increase one little stat point. Then after that I'll have to do 800,000 and 1,000,000 point combos for the next stats. Those numbers are no problem in previous games with high stats, but with a custom skater that only has half stats, it's pretty hard. So kudos to them for making a Tony Hawk game that can't be beaten in an hour.
I never got to play the original THUG, so this is a world of difference for me from THPS4. The warehouse level was pretty sweet for training :D
I just wish I knew how to extract and change the song files. The soundtrack this year is awful.
