View Full Version : Create-a-PPV Theme

One thing I've always admired about the WWE is that some of their PPVs have a running tradition to them. WrestleMania is the main event of main events, the Royal Rumble is a supreme Battle Royal, the King of the Ring gave someone a tool to climb to the top, etc.
Anyway, this is just a place to come up with themes you would like to see in the WWE. It doesn't even have to be for PPV. But basically just come up with sort of a gimmick that could be used to promote an event.
Here are a few of mine:
Turmoil Tuesday
Much like Taboo Tuesday, Turmoil Tuesday is a weekday event. I don't see the point of making this a PPV. Maybe just a special event aired freely on the network. Basically the whole event would be based around one match. It would sort of be like the Royal Rumble, except the match follows sort of a "Turmoil" match ruling. Two wrestlers start off, when one is eliminated, another guy comes in. The last guy in the match becomes Heavyweight Champion. Maybe the guy who beats the IC Champion can win that belt as well.
Armageddon
I really liked the six-man Hell in a Cell at Armageddon 2000. I really think this could be encorporated into the PPV as a permanent fixture. I wouldn't mind seeing a yearly TLC match held for the WWE Tag Team Championship, either.
Judgment Day
I wouldn't mind seeing a "Loser Leaves Town" stipulation being attatched to the main event (for the WWE Championship).
Vengeance
Instead of having an interactive PPV held whenever the company feels like, why not jazz up WWE Vengeance with that gimmick, permanently. I can see the WWE giving more options with this. Maybe the options for Triple Threats, Fatal Fourways as well as match types and stipulations.
Bad Blood
Why not have the main event a First Blood Match for the World Heavyweight Championship?
Anyway, I feel if a few gimmicks are thrown into the atmosphere of the actual PPV itself, fans will prove to be more interested in the event, and each one would feel more unique.

That would make a great match concept. I wouldn't also mind seeing a different kind of cage match being brought out, in which there is a sorta Hell in a Cell, except it is bigger and made out of the same stuff as the Elimination Chamber. Basically you can climb out of a small hole on the top, and at the top there is a retractable ladder thing, which a wrestler can use to climb up and take the tag team championship.

First off, there should be a surprise special guest referee. There are tables, ladders, and chairs in a Hell In A Cell cage. Between the two ladders is a pole with a lead pipe at the top. The Face wrestler is fighting a handicapped match that is two out of three falls. Outside the ring is a casket. The first fall is an Ironman Match, the second is a First Blood match, and if neccessary the third is a Casket Match. Surrounding the ring are lumberjacks with brass knuckles. The loser must retire and have his head shaved.
We will call this Pay Per View..........

Too many gimmicks makes gimmick matches normal which in tune decreases their selling value as such gimmicked PPVs are generally a bad idea beyond what we have now.

That's true, but if you have each one only held annually, in turn you would create more of an atmosphere associated with that PPV. The Royal Rumble is a good example of this. The whole PPV is based around this idea that the biggest and best Battle Royal is held, and the winner gets a main event title shot at Mania. If this was held in June on another dual-brand PPV, it would in sense decrease the Rumble's value, but because itis annual, it gives it almost a "Christmasy" traditional feel to it. If the WWE could add this to every one of their yearly PPVs, in turn wouldn't more of a tradition of purchasing every PPV a year be created?

Theres one gimmick PPV that i really miss from WCW, and that was the Lethal Lottery..For those unfamilar with it it goes like this..
Each wrestlers name is thrown into a hat, and picked at random, which will have each wrestler team up with someone else..
EX:HHH, and Beniot v.s. John Cena,Carlito...Then each match is thrown into a round robin type of deal..
It was always interesting to see how some of the wrestlers who were fueding, would get along in a tag match...

That would certainly be interesting. I could also see it getting RAW some ratings. I wouldn't mind seeing the WWE bringing out interactive editions of RAW, instead of making them PPV. This could just be until the WWE gets a hold on the interactive concept, and really makes it revolutionary.
I can see Eric Bischoff making a "Lethal Lottery" version of RAW, maybe twice a year. Maybe even dress it up like a PPV. Then when that catches on, it could be turned into a really successful PPV in between WrestleMania & Summerslam.

There are a lot of concepts the WWE could use from WCW. The Triple Cage Match, could be brought back. Triple H vs. Randy Orton vs. Shawn Michaels/Chris Benoit/Chris Jericho/Shelton Benjamin would make a classic, IMO.
World War 3 would make an interesting PPV. Eric Bischoff could "invite" SmackDown! to participate, instead of having Bad Blood in June. In fact, why not make it a yearly concept, and have it serve as not only the match to decide who gets the main event title shot at Summerslam (like the Royal Rumble and WrestleMania), but also have to serve as being the housing for the King of the Ring tournament. I'd probably keep the "Bad Blood" name, but have the symbol change from the red droplet of blood, to a half-red/half-blue droplet of blood. I suppose if you don't want to have the King of the Ring tournament return, you could have the winner of the World War 3 match get the honour of being the 2005 King of the Ring.

World War 3 is too much like the Rumble, therefore I wouldn't do it.
I'd bring back a lot of the gimmicks WCW had for PPVs.
I definately think War Games should be used for some PPV, in fact I think that would be a good enough name for the PPV itself. Or else add it to Survivor Series, and make that the main event; RAW vs SD.
Maybe bring back something like the Leathal Lottery, that was always a decent way to build up programs; "Oh my what a shock Randy Orton and HHH have to team up....what are the odds?" Sure its usually predictable stuff like that, but hey its only wrestling!
KOTR should be brought back as a brand exclusive show, again its a different concept and breaks up the standard PPV formula.
Taboo Tuesday seems like a good idea that they should continue with, but next time drop the Tusday part of it, and put it on a Sunday like normal!
