Although, being 18, I could never truly appreciate what John Peel has done for music for the last 40 years, I can say how much I enjoyed listening to his shows, how much of a legend the guy clearly was, how much he entertained me whenever I saw him presenting Glasto on the TV, or all the other times I've seen or heard him. He's a figurehead for all that is good about music, rather than all the bullsh</>it that you usually get.

My heart goes out to his family, it is a tragic loss to both them, and the whole of the music industry.

God bless you sir. RIP

Being in Ireland I never really heard much about him but I just wanted to say how touched I am by reactions on the boards I post at. Never seen a death have such a heartfelt response to it.

The guy pretty much changed the way radio worked here in terms of playlists. Absolute legend.

Before they changed the Radio 1 times I would listen to John Peel pretty much every night. The guy was an icon as far as alternative music goes. Him dying is such a major loss to music. Probably the only guy in the world who could play records at the wrong speed on the air and get away with it.

he would play a final song before the rock show and it would the heaviest metal has to offer and then the rock show would kick off with linkin park , a true legend has been taken away from us.

At least heaven will have some great music to listen too! :)

He covered just about every genre of music during his show, except pop, and that was my major liking of it.
And I always loved it when he said after playing a song:
"I still think that sounds better at the wrong speed."

As I read on another message board, who's going to play Biffy Clyro now. :'(
When I was younger I used to plug my headphones my stereo to listen to his show.
