OK, After Survivor Series 2001, I stopped watching wrestling for a while (until Survivior Series 2002) So I'm guessing Tazz became a commentator in early-mid 2002 time? But how did he become one? Did just one week he just showed up on the announce table? Or did he become a commentator as part of an angle?
Thanks in advance....
If my memory serves me correctly he became the voice of the alliance on Smackdown during the invasion. He still wrestled a bit but was primarily an announcer. It has just gone on from then. He had announced that he wasn't wrestling anymore since he is pretty banged up and was getting the feeling anymore when he went to the ring.

Actually, Tazz started announcing way back after he had his feud with Lawler in 2000. He announced on Heat first, then later SmackDown!, back to Heat, and then eventually back to SmackDown! In fact, in 2001 when you claim you were still watching, Tazz called SmackDown! alongside Michael Cole.

Yeah Pepsi Man's right, Tazz was announcing way before the Invasion angle.

Yeah, I thought Tazz beat up Cole or something on SD to show he was part of the Alliance didn't he? I know Austin did...or was that to see if Tazz would step in to help?
lol, forgot all about Heat at WWF NY. Man that was awful.

Actually, to be honest, that happened, just months or weeks, before the Invasion began...Since it happened somewhere between Judgement Day 01 and KOTR 01....
Since, McMahon was sorta Austin manager at the time....and around that time, Cole made some comment about Mr Mcmahon on the Air...In Character of course, So Austin, trying to cheer up Vince...beat up Michael Cole...of course, this happened a week that Tazz was gone on vacation or had a death in the Family or so. So Haymen replaced him for the week. So the next week, as the show was on the Verge of ending....Austin was cutting a Promo, when Tazz worked into the ring...and confronted Austin about this....
The Memories following that, I have seemingly forgotten, but it was around that time for sure
