View Full Version : Best Year Since 'The Invasion'?

Which year has been the best since the invasion (2001) ?
I think this year (2004 :shifty: ) has been the best as we have seen WMXX, Benoit win the Rumble and FINALLY get a title run. We've seen Eddie Guererro win his first well-deserved WWE title. Orton has had a major push and had a title-run, establishing himself as a main-eventer. We've seen Paul London get out of Velocity and onto Smackdown!, even winning the tag team titles!
We've seen Cena win the US title. Carlito Caribbean Cools debut, and winning the US title on the same night! We have seen a brief return of Mick Foley! And of course we've seen the Undertaker return at WMXX as the phenemon! ETC...

2004 seems to be/have been a year to set-up the future, young talents being pushed, fresh faces being brought in etc etc...

What year do you think has been best? 2002, 2003 or 2004? Give reasons please :)

First half of 2004 looked to be amazing. They've REALLY dropped it off since about May, and it's turned into the WORST year since the highs of the late 90s IMO. Storylines that show no effort and wrong ways of executing things, rushing storylines, and a lot of other stuff have really contributed to a substandard show. In fact, what would have been average a few years ago is now a really good show, and what's average now would have been crap a few years ago.

Sad.

Corkscrewed: I agree with you, but SOME things in 2004 seem to be good, mainly for the future, once the WWE gets out of its 'slump' and gets into another boom period, this year could have played a big factor in it, what with the rising talent and all. Randy Orton, John Cena, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, Christian, Edge, Carlito, are all guys for the future. Yes, the storylines HAVE been shit, but like I said this year could well be a set-up year for a boom period. :y:

2004 for the same reason Hardkore said. I don't even remember much about the other two years except that nWo, Jericho being Undisputed Champ? I think and Lesnar.

I agree with the majority: January-May 2004 was amazing

2002 was pretty good. We got to see the Triple H/ Jericho feud(including Hell in the Cell), the Rock vs. The Undertaker, the WWF debut of the NWO, and the beginning of the brand draft(which wasn't that bad), and the debut of Brock Lesnar. 2003 would come in second, and 2004 is currently going up the poop shoot.

2004 is set apart from the other two because more young guys have been pushed. Not all of them were good, and not all of them had great World title runs, like Benoit and Eddie, but at least they had the chances. Other than that the angles are consistently bad throughout all three years.

2002 and 2003 were horrible years.

I don't know how you can say Benoit and Guerrero had bad title reigns

Benoit had great matches with HHH, HBK, and Orton

Guerrero had great matches with Angle and YES even JBL

It's not that their matches were bad, it's just that Benoit still played second fiddle to Triple H, and Eddie was blamed for Smackdown's poor ratings and had his title reign end prematurely.

what would draw more:

a) Chris Benoit vs Kane - World Title

or

b) Triple H vs Shawn Michaels - Hell in the Cell

The answer is B no question

Of course HIAC draws more, but that fact that Benoit held the World title at the time meant that it should have been HIM in that match defending the World title instead of being in the second billing match. Benoit's World title reign was not the main focus of the Raw brand which undermined the championship in general.

And Triple H can't draw whether he's champion or not.

If you are an RVD mark 2003 and 2004 were shit years.

RVD looked great in the Rumble
RVD V. Goldust at No Way Out (great start top a feud, never completed though)
RVD V. Regal (RVD was on the Mania card and won the Intercontinental Title)
RVD V. Guerrero feud for a few months!!
RVD V. Jericho at King of The Ring in a AWESOME MATCH
RVD V. Lesnar (RVD was the only one who looked like he'd defeat Brock if it wasn't for Heyman)
RVD V. Benoit at Summer Slam
RVD in the Elimination Chamber was awesome (injures Triple H)

RVD gets buried for 2 years ... GO FUCKIN FIGURE

although I loved WMXIX, the year as a whole sucked donkey balls. GAB aside 2004 has been pretty good...just.

This year mainly cause the other two were so poor.

2004 - Eddie title reign, Benoit title reign, return of the deadman, etc.

2004 easily. 2K2 & 2K3 royally blew, and 2004 has actually been a decent year.

Between Benoit and Eddie, and the end to the HHH/HBK anti-feud, I must say that the only dark spots this year have been: "Lesnar v. Goldberg", "The Great American Bash: Reloaded & Glitched", "JBL: Hail DQ", and finally "Hardcore Holly: The Push Heard Around The World"

Ive been watching wrestling for over 10 years now, and 2004 has been the worst year yet.
I dont bother watching much anymore, but when I do it reminds me of why I dont watch often.
So poor.

SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU IGNORANT ASS!

Anyway, this year is great because the titles have changed hands and to deserving people..... well up to the Great American Bash anyway. Plus, the WWE is quite watchable now. I couldn't say that last year or in 2002.

Hey Jimmy: I have the right to say what I want, whether you like it or not. If you're that insecure that you let a smart-ass comment offend you then your not worth anyone's time. I try to stay objective in these forums and have intelligent discussion and a little fun. If u have a problem w/ what I say then you can eat shit.

 I have the right to make smartass comments as well (which that was BTW), so take a joke. Also, eating shit is not a real "cool" thing to do nowadays. So I'll just stick with Pizza Hut. :p

Oh yeah, Welcome To TPWW!

Gracias senor. Allow me to apoloize for taking offense. I hope that we will have the oppurtunity to have intellectual intercourse in the future.(No I'm not gay, just confused)

Yeah but there was this little thing called Wrestlemania in 1985.

James Steele

Yeah, but the WWF Title wasn't even defended. A damn tag match was the main event. WTF?

I'm gonna say most of 2004 has been probably the best of the last 3 years. 2002 and 2003 had its moments, but this year has been better for the most part. I think that there are too many ppv's this year which is probably the worst part of the year. The ppv's are too rushed and look more like a regular RAW or SmackDown than a quality ppv.
