This guy is stupid. First of all, the reason why he was benched for two games was because he asked Rick Carlisle if he could take a month off because his body was sore, and because he wanted to take a month off to promote his rap album.

Then a reporter told him he had destroyed the integrity of the Pacers.

Artest: Wait, I have no idea what that means.

Reporter: What means?

Artest: I don't have a dictionary by me right now, but I have no idea what integrity means?

The reporter then told him what integrity means.

Artest: Oh well I guess the team is probably disappointed in me.

Honestly, someone needs tojust release this asshole from his contract.

Elton Brand (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3324/) had 19 points and 16 rebounds and the Los Angeles Clippers (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/lac/) took control of the lethargic Pacers from the start in a 102-68 victory Wednesday night, the worst home loss in franchise history.

The Clippers outscored the Pacers 31-7 in the second quarter, holding Indiana (4-1) to a franchise-low for points in a quarter.

Artest was serving the second of a two-game benching imposed by coach Rick Carlisle because he ``compromised the integrity of the team.''

The volatile forward said Wednesday that he asked Carlisle for time off because of a busy schedule that included promoting a soon-to-be released rap album.

``I was doing a lot,'' Artest said. ``I was running around a lot and doing a whole bunch of stuff and I've also been working out, so I think I wore myself down physically, I wore myself down mentally. I was ready to take some time off, at least like a month off, but two games is enough.''

We'll see. It's not something I'm going to talk about right now.''

The Pacers sure could have used their All-Star and last year's defensive player of the year against the Clippers.

Artest's benching left Indiana with only nine players available to play. Center Scot Pollard (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3189/) missed the game with a sore lower back and Jonathan Bender (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3328/), who was expected to return after missing the previous three games with a sore knee, stayed home with a viral infection.

``We've certainly got to get some bodies healthy,'' Carlisle said. ``We certainly didn't play with the kind of energy we have been playing with. It's a bad hit. It's embarrassing.''

Even with all the personnel problems, Indiana managed a perfect start to the season thanks to crisp ball movement and strong defense.

Neither were on display against the Clippers, who got open jumpers and layups at will and dominated throughout.

A night after out-hustling and out-rebounding the Minnesota Timberwolves (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/teams/min/) in a spirited road win, the Pacers didn't have enough left.

More Photos (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/gallery)</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>The Clippers put the game away with a 19-2 run in the second quarter. Mikki Moore (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3308/) punctuated the run with a thunderous dunk over Pacers rookie David Harrison (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3846/) for a 53-26 lead.

``Once they got on top of us, they didn't let up,'' said Stephen Jackson (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3210/), who led the Pacers with 17 points.

The Pacers managed just two field goals in the quarter and were booed by the home crowd as they headed into the locker room down 28 points at halftime.

The Pacers shot 12.5 percent in the second quarter and 26 percent for the half. They weren't much better at the free throw line, going 6-of-13.

Moore said it was a statement game for the Clippers.

``Yes, to our fans and the other nonbelievers,'' said Moore, who finished with a career-high 16 points and seven rebounds. ``I'm not saying we're unstoppable because they came out short-handed tonight. We come out and play hard every night. Everybody on this team has a lot to prove.''

The Clippers made their first 18 free throws and were 24-for-26 from the line for the game. They also shot 49 percent from the field and held a 49-32 rebounding advantage after losing to Detroit in double overtime on Monday.

``This is a real big win. To bounce back from losing in double overtime like that to the champs,'' Moore said.

They snapped a six-game losing streak to the Pacers, won for the first time at Conseco Fieldhouse and for the first time in Indiana since 1992.

Sure they had a little bit of luck in facing a depleted Indiana team, but they'll take it.

``It's a great win for us, even though they were short-handed,'' Clippers coach Mike Dunleavy (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3601/) said. ``At the end of the year, they usually don't go back and ask you about it. We took advantage of the opportunity.''

Bobby Simmons (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3551/) added 18 points and six assists for the Clippers.

Jamaal Tinsley (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3528/) added 15 points and eight assists for the Pacers, whose injury woes continued.

Jermaine O'Neal (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3120/) did not play the fourth quarter after straining his left foot, which has bothered him all season. He is listed as day-to-day.

But the Pacers aren't making any excuses.

``We haven't had those guys the first four games and it didn't make a difference,'' Fred Jones (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3612/) said. ``We just didn't perform like we're supposed to do.'' <SMALL>Notes</SMALL> Pollard and Bender are both expected back for Friday's game at Philadelphia. ... Simmons received a flagrant foul for hitting Jones on the head on a dunk attempt in the third quarter. ... O'Neal received a technical foul at 4:21 of the second quarter for arguing with the officials.

This foreign theory you present of trading players of less talent for players of greater talent interests me. Its just so crazy and off the wall that it might work.

I mean basic logic would suggest that better players are better than worse players, but can this concept really be applied to athletes?

Hey, even if he is the best guard defender on the league, why would you keep someone who is detremental to your team and someone who will have your team's integrity questioned every night. Don't even bring up Rodman either, because Rodman would not have left for a month to promote a rap album. He would kick peope in the groin and be out for 11 games, but that would be a suspension.

Artest and Sprewell are the 2 biggest idiots in the NBA.

First of all. They guy carried the team on a banged up left knee the first 3 games of the season . Which you obviously failed to mention.

Second. WHy would they not get rid of him??? Oooo lets see cause he goes out and holds guys like Paul Peirce to 15 points a game. Or shuts down guy's like Tracy Mcgrady every night they play. Or maybe the 24 points a game that he puts up a night along with that defense. Or could it be the 8 rebounds or 3 steals a night? He may come off to an idiot to you but trust me he's no idiot when he gets on the floor. The only idiots are the ones that suggest a team should let a guy like this go who is in the prime of his career.

Btw.. If you read Donnie Walsh's(boss) comments he said point blank that the rap album issue never came up when he asked for time off.

I'll take Ron Artest over Mcgrady, Peirce, Carter, just about any small foward/sg in the game. Even if i have to spot him a 11 or so games for time off

I'm going to agree with Rectal Protruder. If im not mistaken, his technicals went down last year, which shows that he is getting better. I said I would trade Latrell Sprewell for Ron Artest in a second because Artest has all the bull shit but he is actually really good. Sprewell is just a douche. I didn't mean there was going to be a straight up deal, which I thought was pretty obvious, but I guess now. If they do trade him, they better get a lot in return.

I think that if you read all the articles and watch the actual interview a few times, shit is being totally blown out of proportion because he is such an easy target. He really just asked for some time off, said that some of his focus was on his album, and said that now that he had two games off he will be good to go. I still stand behind him.

I think the case is settled.

He wants to take the whole year off.

He wants to help his team.

He thinks by taking these 5-6 games off, it will save him for the playoffs.

He wants us to know that the album is an R and B album and not a rap album.

He also is not singing, he is the executive producer.

He promoted his album about 5 times during the interview.

He said he could walk away from the game, and that he is not crazy if he decides to do this.

First of all, I said it meaning that I would much rather have Artest on my team then Sprewell, but apparantly I said that Ron Artest and Latrell Sprewell are going to be traded straight up...ok...The other thing is that there was talk of Artest being traded to the Timberwolves anyway. Not really recently, but before the 2003-2004 season if we didn't get Sprewell in that four way deal, the guy we were going after was in fact Artest. And finally, if Artest does get traded this season, there is a good possibility that it would be to the Timberwolves. You could say maybe the Kings (Peja), the Sonics (Allen), the Bucks (Redd) but theres not many more teams that would be available, and I'm sure if the Wolves want to deal Spre and the Pacers want to deal Artest during the year, they could figure out a way to do it. Thank you. Goodnight.
