Smackdown was taped at the Nutter Center in Dayton, Ohio tonight, on the campus of Wright State University, next door to Wright Patterson Air Force Base. This is a very small arena to begin with, but there were four full sections tarped off on the camera side and about 5 sections that were partially tarped off. I was on the camera side, near the curve and only about 10 rows of my section were uncovered. The camera side was pretty much full, though. Tiny arena, 'ok' ticket sales.

On to the matches, I think there were two dark matches, but I didn't catch any of them. The last guy was leaving the ring when I sat down and then the announcers for Velocity came out. Josh Matthews got a **HUGE** ovation, one of the biggest pops of the night.

VELOCITY SPOILERS

SMACKDOWN! SPOILERS

Right off the bat, John Cena came out and did a little promo/rhyme about his match tonight with Carlito Caribbean Cool for the US title.

Next was the stupid Tough Enough segment. This was the time when I should have went to the bathroom to keep from ruining my night, but I didn't. In any event, tonight their challenge was to make it past the Basham Brothers. Sounds easy enough. Basically they had 30 seconds, and the ring was divided into a few sections. In the corner where the guy stood there was a line that he had to start from behind. On the side where the Bashams were, there was a line marking off a big section. These were diagonal with a flag attached to the corner where the Bashams were. The object was to simply get through the Bashams and take the flag. They really weren't allowed to do much of anything in terms of hitting, etc. Everyone's strategy seemed to be run as fast as they could to try to get past them and the Bashams' strategy seemed to be to keep them off their feet. Really, only the big military guy and Puder had a chance. The big guy pulled along the ropes at one point dragging the Bashams with him, but he ran out of time. Puder made it close to the corner too, but was taken down.

In the end nobody got the flag. - During all of this, one of the Bashams kept having problems with his contact lens. At first it came out, then Chimmel cleaned it for him or just handed it back, one of the two, and he put it back in but it kept bugging him the whole time he was out there. At one point the ref signaled to the back that he would be OK to finish up out there, but he had trouble with his eye the whole time. After each of the contestants takes a run at them, they go back to their corner where Al Snow would talk to them for a minute, trying to stall a little while the Bashams were off camera on their side of the ring while the one was playing with his contact. One camera shot somewhat through the contest will show the guy in his corner and the Basham with the eye problem on his knees trying to make it better. This is the only indication that you will see of this unless Cole and Tazz say something about it.

*Chavo Guerrero over Billy Kidman

Carlito & Jesus go to Teddy Long's office and Carlito tries to get out of the match. He takes his shoulder x-rays and a doctor's note but Teddy tells him that he is not getting out of it or he will be stripped of the title.

*Charlie Haas w/ Jackie over Heidenreich via Countout
I don't know what was a bigger waste of time, the Tough Enough stuff or this. They basically wrestled for like 30 seconds. Heidenreich then leaves the ring and sort of falls to the floor. He then climbed over the railing and laid down on the floor by everyone in the fetal position. This went on for about 3 or 4 minutes until Sgt. Slaughter among others came out to try to get stupid to get up. Heyman gave him his jacket which he hugged for a while and then he finally left like 5 minutes later. I'm sure that they will probably cut this down on TV, but I had to sit through it, unfortunately. Everyone was pretty much quiet during most of this. There was one small boring chant, but there was also one loud SLAUGHTER chant! All he did was come out and they chanted his name.

RVD & Rey Mysterio were shown in the back getting ready for their match. RVD introduced Rey to the girl on the floor, his new personal trainer: Michelle McCool from the RAW Diva Search Contest.

*RVD & Rey Mysterio over Kenzo Suzuki w/ Hiroko & Rene Dupree (non-title)

Video that aired during Survivor Series was shown reminding us that WWE will go back overseas again this Christmas. That got a big cheer.

Kurt Angle came out and introduced his way of 'giving back', the Kurt Angle Invitational. He said that every week he will let a 'hometown hero' come out and try to pin him. If anyone can, then he will personally deliver to him the prize, Kurt Angle's Olympic Gold Medal.

*Kurt Angle over Dean Visk (?)

JBL is shown backstage introducing Orlando to his new image consultant: Amy Weber from the RAW Diva Search Contest.

JBL comes out and does a promo about how it's great to be the champ and that he won just like he said that he would. Basically, everyone who wants a title shot comes out from here. Booker T comes out and talks a little bit. Then Eddie Guerrero comes out in a car (They had the mirror thing pulled out of the way and he had the headlights on for like 3 minutes before he came out, but everyone seemed surprised when he came out). Eddie talked for just a minute and then the lights went out. UNDERTAKER came out next. This is when the place erupted because nobody thought that he would actually be there. Undertaker never said a word all night, he just sort of stood there. JBL was visibly scared. Teddy Long came out after a minute and said that JBL's next title defense would be a Fatal Fourway with all of the names just mentioned. Later in the night they showed a graphic which showed that match as being at SmackDown!'s next PPV. Eventually, Booker T and then Eddie left. Undertaker was still standing in the same spot and would not leave. This is where JBL turned into a comedian and started saying things like he would give him a three count to leave the ring and that "These people don't want to see you kick my ass". After some more antics, Undertaker finally did knock the tar out of JBL and Orlando, too. Undertaker eventually left after doing so and then JBL turned into a comedian again. Instead of quietly "coming to", he slowly rolled from where he was at to the end of the ring by the ramp. Each time he rolled over, he said something funny into the mic and everybody enjoyed this thoroughly. These included things like "I can't feel my left foot" and "I feel like Ohio State playing against anybody: I got my ass kicked."

Carlito was shown in the back getting his shoulder massaged by WWE's newest licensed masseuse: Joy Giovanni *US Championship: John Cena over Carlito Caribbean Cool
The match was extremely short. It was built to Cena winning all night through a series of MANY, MANY video clips that aired before or after commercial breaks ALL NIGHT recapping ALL events between Cena and Carlito. Basically, John beat up Carlito for a minute, then Jesus, then he hit Carlito with a chair (missed completely hitting the pole but oh well), then he took out Jesus one final time and pinned Carlito for an easy three count. It was extremely short (3-4 minutes), but it kept Carlito from working too much and getting hurt more.

After the match, Jesus attacked Cena, punching him in the back where his scar should have been. This made Cena need like 10 refs and a stretcher to leave. To make matters worse, to call for the stretcher, Patrick threw up the now famous "X" sign about five times in a row. I guess this was to make those who think they know what's going on feel like maybe they don't, but I obviously wasn't fooled.

OVERALL, I drove from Cincinnati to Dayton (around 50 miles and an hour each way) any really didn't think that this show was worth it. Maybe if my ticket was only $20, but it was close to $50 total. I had more fun and enjoyed the show more when I went to see ROH last month in Dayton at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds (plus I met Ricky Steamboat). ROH is coming back in February and I will definitely be going to that show, but I'm not sure if I will be driving to Dayton again for garbage like tonight's show. Maybe if they are in Cincinnati, it's RAW (not SD!), and I don't have anything else to do.

Christy's win was an accomplishment. She won, like, quarter of a million dollars. Other than that, I sorta knew that WWE was going to hire more Divas from the search, but ... three in one night? When did the WWE suddenly decide that there was a Diva shortage? I mean, Dawn Marie is still in the company without a real role, right? She couldn't have been JBL's new image advisor? (Or maybe, in a reflection of modern times, his new Secretary of State.)

I'm trying to not read the match spoilers, but could someone tell me which three Diva Search contestants now have jobs. I'm guessing on is Carmella.

I really have no problem with them getting contracts, as there are only ontl three divas on SmackDown!. If they can all find someone to manage, it should be alright.

The whole thing reminds me of Rodney Mack's white boy challenge, which came to an end when Goldberg beat him down in less than a minute. My guess is at one point, the "local" talent will be one of the superstars. (Like they end up in Houston, and the challenger ends up being Booker T.)

It was Michelle, Joy, and Amy.

Oh OK. I hoped Amy Weber would win the contest. She actually seems to have a passion for the business. I would have prefered it if she had showed up on RAW and was valet to Randy Orton or Evolution. Maybe should could also start training to become a wrestler, since the Women's Division is lacking, and I think she said in an interview that she'd be willing to train.

I caught a little thing of Joy Giovanni being SmackDown!'s official masseuse. While Carlito was injured, I pictured him having a segment on SmackDown! called "Carlito's Resort" or something, and Jesus and Lulu (from OVW) being extras on it. Maybe Joy could fill that role for a while, before being sent down to OVW to maybe train as a wrestler?

Michelle I think I vaguely remember. She could be a decent valet, and I could see her doing something with Garrison Cade, JBL or Shawn Michaels. She was the one from Texas, right?

Hopefully they do a decent tourny for the title, and try to establish someone new. Actually, Rey would be a good fit, just to move him out of the CW division, which he's been in for too long.

But yeah, if you throw in Rey, Kidman, Chavo, Haas, RVD, OJ, Reigns and maybe Jindrak. Would be pretty decent.

I believe Mysterio said he was tired of the cruiserweight division, so this is the perfect time to put the U.S. title on him. The fatal four-way sounds interesting, as it will probably be the final nail in the coffin of JBL's push(thank the christ). I'd assume either Booker or Taker will take the belt, leaving either one of them to start a program with Angle leading into the Rumble or WrestleMania.

If it were me, I'd book Taker to win the title, then have him fued with Booker into the Rumble, then drop it at the next SmackDown PPV after Mania to Angle. Angle shouldn't be the one to break Taker's Mania streak, it should be someone who needs to get mega-over, mega-fast.

Like Funaki... :shifty:

Well, the mid-carders. Basically if JBL won the title, it would be an "insurance policy" headed into Armageddon. Who knows, maybe Teddy Long could even make the Fatal Fourway a double title match, really pissing off JBL. Then you can shift the title to a face in the match (like Eddie Guerrero), or you can keep it on JBL, and have the WWE Championship go to Booker T or Eddie Guerrero.

If Orlando Jordan won, he would probably hand the title over to JBL, or keep it and have JBL serve as a manager.

Luther Reigns or Mark Jindrak would hold the title with the other protecting them, giving them a fairly long reign with the title, until a new and upcoming face dethroned them. Angle would hold the title until he wins the WWE Championship, before he hands it down to Luther Reigns or Mark Jindrak, which then leads us into the Reigns/Jindrak scenario. Or Angle could hold it way past WrestleMania in an attempt to breathe fresh credibility into the title.

Eddie Guerrero could hold the title, giving it notice. I can see him having some decent feuds with it. Chavo would be a similar deal, but I can also see Chavo with the title while in a WWE Tag Team Championship feud. Los Guerreros vs. The Shooting Stars is a feud that's on the top of my list now.

Kidman could serve the same purpose as Chavo, as could London.

Nunzio, Funaki or Danny Basham would be a surprise win, in which we get treated to seeing a "JBL" of the United States Division. If Danny on the title, we could see the return of Damaja, and maybe a feud with the heel Danny Basham.

Charlie Haas and Jesus could play the psychotic type roles well. Haas with the Haas of Pain, and Jesus as Carlito's revenge.

I'd rather see HBK win, or HBK and Kane dump each other out at the same time. Maybe Batista could be a surprise winner this year? I actually hope we see Orton and Cena go in early, then have them battle for a while, before they try andforce each other over the top rope, only for Dave Batista to come up and dump them both out at around the #15 entrant mark. We should be surprised this year.

The ultimate surprise would be The Rock winning and facing either Kurt Angle or Triple H at WrestleMania.

Yeah have the No 30 spot be reserved and have Rocky win, it would certainly be electric if he had time to do a full program up to Mania.

Dave Youell
11-18-2004, 06:06 AM
I can still see JBL pulling out a win in a fatal 4 way though.

Taker hits his finisher on antoehr guy, JBL knock taker out of the ring and gets the pin.

Another cheap win.

The way this is going he could hold it till Mania, which to be honest I don't think would be too bad a thing, think of the massive pop that would get!

Mr. Nerfect
11-18-2004, 06:43 AM
HBK vs. JBL in the Mania main event=ratings. Think of the heat if JBL won! Garrison Cade running out and costing HBK the match would get him over HUGE as an upcoming heel. The SmackDown! half of the WM21 card could look something like this.

WWE Championship
John Bradshaw Layfield vs. Shawn Michaels (Royal Rumble Winner)
Winner: JBL via pinfall after HBK's student, Garrison Cade runs out and hits him over the head with the WWE Championship belt. JBL then catches him from the other side with the Clothesline from Hell.

Grudge Match
Kurt Angle vs. The Undertaker
Winner: The Undertaker via pinfall.. Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak manage to eventually knock the Dead Man out, and Angle puts him in the Ankle Lock, and Taker can't respond. The arm drops thrice and we see another MAJOR heel win. But no, Theodore R. Long comes out and orders the match restarted due to interference. The Undertaker fires up and hits a Chokeslam, Last Ride & Tombstone for the win.

WWE Tag Team Championship/WWE Cruiserweight Championship
Tables, Ladders & Chairs Match
The Shooting Stars vs. Los Guerreros vs. The Dudleys vs. Rey Mysterio & Rob Van Dam
Winners: The Shooting Stars.

WWE United States Championship
Street Fight
Carlito Caribbean Cool vs. John Cena
Winner: Carlito Caribbean Cool via pinfall.

Tag Team Match
The Big Show & Booker T vs. Luther Reigns & Mark Jindrak
Winners: The Big Show & Booker T via pinfall.

Invitational Immunity Battle Royal
Every RAW & SmackDown! superstar welcome vs. each other
Winner: Gene Snitsky.

I've never seen the "X" used before. Was is actually used to signal when a wrestler was actually hurt and now they're using it as kayfabe? And if so, what do they use now to signal when a wrestler is actually hurt?

Also, another thing that's been bugging me. If JBL is a financial genius and a millionare, why doesn't he do the "millionare" thing and give up the belt and make his own belt, hiring his own wrestlers to do his dirty work for him? Because now he's just another annoying cheap heat heel.

I believe it's still used as a real signal, unless it's planned beforehand. Basically, if they're going to work it into a segment, they'll have a backup signal to incidate if something really does happen, and use the "X" symbol for show. But in all other and regular cases, the X will still mean "real injury."

I could be wrong though.

Anyway, last night's show came off better than I expected. The TE segment actually wasn't too bad, except for the inconsistencies in getting to the ropes. My friend who was watching was really into Puder's part, where he ALMOST got to the ropes. And he like Rodheimer's effort as well.

I also like how Jesus came out of nowhere and attacked Cena. This should set up a nice feud for them to use as Carlito recovers, but it came off pretty damn well. I don't think the US Title is fucked... either Jesus can challenge Cena next week and win or they can shift the belt off of Cena, give it to someone else via a tourney, and make the CCC/Jesus vs Cena feud a non-belt feud, because it's definitely hot enough so that it doesn't need the title to make it more special. That way, you create two good angles out of one.

And yeah... seeing three Diva Search girls debut on one night really was odd. They should have at least spaced it out, tho I don't mind looking at Joy and Amy.

I don't know because he could go away for more time. And hold a match to see who the new one is now. Because after I saw Jesus come into the ring and attack Cena and hit him with the chain in the injured ribs and have Cena carted out of Smackdown something tells me they're going to sell the injury and Cena will be back by Rumble or something. That's how they should plan it.
