View Full Version : Since we were talking about Nelly...

and I was watching some program on VH1 about rap/some music videos, that got me to thinking...
what the fuck happened to Ja Rule?
I mean...his first two albums were (and still are) the shit. but like the last 3 were mostly garbage.
On Pain is Love, by my count, 9 out of 16 songs are passable at best. That includes a skit, a recycled Pac song, and that pop shit with J'Lo, not to mention 2 songs where he sings most of the time, so make that 4.
Then the next album, Last Temptation, 5 of 13 are passable, and 4 of those are because of the guest on the song.
Let's not bring up Blood in my Eye, which is the shittiest shit that ever shat.
I haven't have the (dis?)pleasure of listening to my copy (;)) of his new CD, but I saw the video and the only thing that saves anything associated with that song is that Ashanti is shit hot in the video.
So, let's talk about it...what happened to Ja Rule?

Ja Rule and Nelly both always sucked, come on.

Ja Rule most definitely did not always suck. I'd go as far as saying that Veni Vetti Vecci is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all time. Rule 3:36 was pretty tight too. But after I bought Pain is Love, I was so disappointed that I gave it away to some girl who loved one of the stupid love songs on it.
I stopped paying attention to Ja Rule altogether after that and I didn't hear anything about him again until he started beefing with 50 Cent.
I read an interview with him (I forget what magazine, sorry), and he brought up what I almost thought was kind of an interesting point. Well, a couple points really.
1. 50 raps about being gangster and all. But he's been shot 9 times. Real gangsters are supposed to be the ones getting shot, they're supposed to be the ones doing the shooting. The ones who get shot are the product of what gangsters do to "bitch ass niggas".
2. 50 blasted on Ja for singing in songs and doing love songs or whatever, but if you noticed, 50 started doing the exact same thing shortly after his first album. "21 Questions" was one thing, but shit like "Magic Stick" and other songs that I don't even want to think of right now were basically using the same formula that Ja Rule was using.
Honestly, I think 50 is overrated, and Ja USED to be good, but I really don't see myself buying albums from either of them unless something changes my mind.
Ja Rule is a 2 dollar wanna be DMX.

I never liked 50 either.

50 is overrated. He is looked at because of association.
Ja Rule had it but then he lost it.

yeah Fiddy is overrated too. :n:

I agree, 50 is overrated. I believe that he won popularity for putting down Ja Rule and just because he had some sick songs dissing Ja, he suddenly became famous. But i guess with Eminem and Dre producing your songs, you cant go wrong :-\

I don't mind Ja Rule. I really like him and J'Lo in "I'm Real"
Also, I saw him on Mad TV last saturday, he was pretty funny.

When Ja put out VVV I wouldn't hesitate to tell friends that it was one of the better albums out at the time, but ever since then it's gone downhill for him. I bought Rule 3:36 and I felt like I had been robbed, the quality went down SEVERLY from the last cd. His 2 CDs after that were terrible and I haven't heard R.U.L.E yet.
On to 50, I think 50 is actually pretty smart. He's new to the game and knows beef sells so what does he do he notices Ja isn't as hot as he used to be and he strikes at him. 50 made a smart move in my opinion, because whether you like him or not he's making more money than any of us will probally see in our life time.
Also this comment made me laugh harder than I have in quite some time....

I hate Ja Rule, he only has one good cd in my view.
50 Cent, his stuff is good from before he got shot. Shit that's not released in stores right now, I believe. I hate him now, simply because as of a few months ago, you couldn't go more than 10 minutes without hearing one of his songs on the radio, or seeing something about him on TV. Not that his major label debut was anything great anyway.

It didn't seem like he was stating his opinion, he just said his debut wasn't anything special when infact it was one of the biggest in hip-hop history...

Simply because a cd sells well, doesn't mean it's good.
Plain and simple, it was awful.

Honestly, I don't think your informed enough to be having this discussion with me. First of all, I wasn't talking about his debut cd, I was talking about his debut to the mainstream which was huge, and If you want to deny it, just be sure to know that it's your opinion that it wasn't huge not a fact. Second, since YOU brought up his cd, "Get Rich Or Die Trying" is the #1 debut cd in HISTORY. So yeh, beef up your info some man.

It's hardly 50's fault that everyone got on him once his stuff was release though.
Whether you like him or not, he's a shitload better than Ja Rule in terms of ability to flow throughout a song. Get Rich Or Die Tryin' is better than anything Ja Rule has ever put out, comfortably.

Wow, shut up.
I was talking about quality of the cd, not the fact that all the sheep in America bought it.
I can't deny that it was popular, i'm not trying to. I'm simply saying... It sucked.

Oh, then I completly misunderstood you. Na, everyone has a different opinion and that's what I was saying, but I thought you were debating about how well it sold. My bad about that, it's deffiantly not my favorite cd, infact I didn't even purchase it, just have a few tracks DLed. Probally the best track off the CD is Blood Hound Ft. Young Buck....
