I just found out that the GC is has online capabilities. My question is why aren't the games that are online on other systems not on GC?

Because of Nintendo's stance on online gaming. They feel that not everyone has access to broadband or even the internet, so to spend such a large amount of money on something that not everyone has access to is pointless. I can't say I disagree with Nintendo on this one. It makes sense, as not everyone wants to play online.

I agree with Nintendo's stance that if they go online, it's gonna be done right, where you do not have to pay a monthly fee to play.

If you purchase the game, you shouldn't have to pay to play. Especially if you play casually and have other priorities. If I'm not playing the game too often, why should I be paying online fees.

I have to disagree with Nintendo's stance. They are limiting their scope soley on console games without online play, meanwhile games such as Madden 2005 are fantastic to have if you own a PS2 or an Xbox. I have a gamecube and I guarantee that I'm not buying those games solely because of that. It's just not worth the money.

When I have enough cash, I'll just get a PS2 and finally get some of what I've been missing out on as a hardcore Nintendo fan.

i'm nintendo 4 life as well, i've got NES, SNES, N64 and Gamecube ALL HOOKED UP, to my TV, i also have gameboy pocket, colour and advance..

anyhow back on topic, i disagree with nintendo, they need to realize that online is the wave of the future and one of the greatest innovations for console gaming in a long time, nintendo are kings of innovation usually, i don't see why they're not jumping on the bandwaggon

Nintendo actually got a patent for online gaming on consoles about six months ago :-\

As it stands right now, I don't see anymore online Gamecube games. MAYBE one more, but I doubt it. Nintendo seems to be fixated on offline multiplayer games, what with Four Swords and Mario Party.

However, if Nintendo doesn't have a good amount of support of online games for it's next gen system, something will happen. It won't bomb (Because God knows there are enough Nintendo fanboys to buy out the entire world's current stock of Gamecubes [no offense to anyone, but it's true]), but people will complain, and Nintendo had better take the hint that online gaming is going to be big. It's big now, but soon it's going to be bigger and bigger and will be a necessity for a console to survive.

It'd be pretty awesome to have games like Mario Party, Mario Golf, Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart etc FULLY online.

Yeah, I'd like to fuck up some other people besides my brothers at Smash Bros Melee from time to time.

Nintendo isn't that innovative anymore, name one thing they've been innovative in after the N64's Analog control and four controller ports.

The DS is pretty damn innovative for a game system. Dual screens and a touch screen.

Another innovation is Animal Crossing, with the 24 hour actual real time clock.

Plus, the eCard reader, which reads data off a card and you can play games from it.

Nintendo is still very much innovative.

Nintendo is merely looking out for nerd's well being. See, if they offered their games online play, nerds would NEVER have to leave their house as they just play with people half across the world.

However, by keeping it offline it forces nerds to go out and find other nerds to play with. Thus getting them out of the house, with some much needed exercise, and giving them some semblance of a social life!

They saved my life in this manner. I salute them!

The way I see it, Nintendo realizes that there's just not enough interest from every single soul in the world to play online(myself included, I could care less about online). Once it's in such a huge, high demand, then Nintendo will focus itself into online. Until then, to throw a huge amount of money at something, such as what Sony and Microsoft are doing, when there's not a big enough audience yet, seems pointless.

Sony and Microsoft are both wanting to throw huge amounts of money at something that has barely even got off the ground yet. Meanwhile, Nintendo is taking the safe route and not worrying about it at this point. I believe Nintendo's thinking is, well what if(notice I say IF) online gaming turns out to be a fad, and we wasted money on it. Although I don't think online gaming WILL be a fad. Too many people are worried about playing some kid in Japan at Counter-Strike. If you can't tell, my interest in playing online is not very high.

Incorrect on a couple points.

Animal Crossing ain't the first place this "innovation" showed up.

eCard is based on Barcodeboy is based on an invention by (I believe) Tiger.

No, but since when has the gaming market ever waited for a consensus?

It's shafted GC fans out of a lot of games.

While I partially agree with what you are saying (Several games have been released with the concept that they wouldn't need to put out a good game if it was online instead...), it's foolish to take such an exclusionary stance.
