This idea popped into my head. Now granted this will probably sound really stupid, but I'm just curious as to what people would think of the idea, or similiar ones.
On RAW next week's RAW, Eric Bischoff returns and says that there will be no Edge vs. Randy Orton match. It's too much to give away on free television. Or low-rating free television, anyway. This prompts Bischoff to announce that if and when RAW reaches, say 5.0 (probably lower than that, but I'm not an expert on ratings), we will see Randy Orton vs. Edge.
This would be an interesting way to promote a match. By having Orton & Edge infinite time to build-up a feud before meeting in the ring one on one, it could really give the writers some time to re-think the direction of these two. The more and more regular fans want to see Orton vs. Edge, the more likely they'd be to ask their friends/relatives to turn on RAW, etc. It certainly won't boost a high in wrestling, but it may (just may), increase ratings a little. Actually it probably wouldn't, but by having this little match stored up for a rainy day, it is an idea that to my knowledge has not been used in wrestling, and little things like that can go a long way in today's wrestling scene.
Having a match with this much intensity could lead to "frustration" getting so powerful for these two that they NEED to face each other. With this much heat behind a feud, just a tag team match at a PPV could really make for some entertaining viewing.
OK, so it's not the best idea, but I'm just curious as to whether or not you'd object to the idea if it was pulled out on RAW next week. Matches tend not to have meaning these days, and I really think Edge/Orton could be made to have meaning, since it really shook me up when I saw those two in the ring. It was magic. A new idea like this could really make a feud like that interesting.
BTW, I think a perfect way to have the match go down (if it happens), is by having Edge and Orton ready to go in the ring, with the fans going nuts. The bell rings, and we're ready to go. Edge then slides out of the ring and walks to the back, looking at Orton, shaking his head. Edge then goes on to explain he doesn't care how long the fans have waited for it, and he doesn't care what it means ot them, and he doesn't care what it meant for RAW, he's going to do what he wants to do, when he wants to do it. Bischoff then books Edge vs. Orton for the next PPV (RAW exclusive or dual-brand), and if Edge doesn't show up, he's fired. Maybe add a Steel Cage just for kicks.
