View Full Version : Shutup about the Colts Defense already..

I was gunna post this in the Marvin harrison thread. So i'm kinda of replying to what was being said in that thread.

So if they win a SuperBowl this season without defensive players why would it make a difference whether they get defensive players next year.

Stima. The colts are 1st in the league in turnovers forced. 4th in the league in Sacks gotten. And there 4th in the league in Defensive touchdowns. Dont be so quick to listen to the talking heads of football when they say " There Defense cant get it done " Your gunna be pretty dissapointed when they do get it done against your Patriots.

Defense is ranked by total yardage . The Colts give up alot of yardage for a couple reasons. One, There prone to giving up a big play every couple of quarters. But the biggest reason is because when your blowing teams away by halftime, teams recognize that your offense is so good that they will have a hard time catching up. SO they start throwing the ball nonstop . Which in turn wracks up alot of yardage. Include that with the Yardage they get when the score is 41-10 and our defense really doesnt give a shit. What you come up with is 350 yards per game giving up by the colts defense.

Now what isnt added in the defensive rankings is the .., Turnovers forced ( !st in the league ), Sacks (4th in the league ) and Defensive touchdowns ( 4th in the league ). Also the Colts only give up 21 points a game. WHich is good enough for 12th best in the league .

People who say there defense cant get it done, say that shit cause ...

A) they dont watch our games much
B) They cant do there own research so they watch other shows to get there material, but the only problem is other shows dont do there fuggin research
C) there morons.

Just once i would like someone to walk up in Shannon Sharps ugly face and put the following stats in which i have provided you guys.

Final Thought : Our defense goes out there and gets us the ball. They sack qb's and force turnovers and put our offense on the field. I dont need to tell you about our offense.

People will be eating there words when the Colts win the Superbowl this year.

Good points. Also, since the Colts offense scores so fast, there are more total drives in the game and the defense has to come on again quickly and more often and thus, they give up more yards.

Boomer
12-09-2004, 10:12 AM
I don't think they'll win this year, but definitely some good info to argue the point. Too many other good defensive teams. The Colts defense just can't stack up to the Patriots or anyone like that. And stats aren't always the best way to compare teams.

Look at the Falcons.

Triple A

The Jets have the best defense.

Anyway, besides the Jets, the Colts better win the Superbowl this year.

Colts vs. Eagles would be such a hot game.

Don't wanna watch the boring ass Pats.

RP
12-09-2004, 10:25 AM
Honestly. Talks here in Indianapolis is.. Our Superbowl is against the Pats in the AFC championship game. Everyone here wants the Patriots. Whether its in New England or in Indy.

Colts vs Eagles would be legendary. Mcnabb and Owens v.s Manning and Harrison... and stokely and wayne and Clarke and James and Pollard...

I'm worried about the Jets. The Chad might not be the same after those injuries.

RP

Its about pride. We know we can beat them. Hell we would have beatem them twice now and probably have a Superbowl under our belts if it wasnt for 3 red zone turnovers. But it seems the Patriot fans dont wanna give Indy the respect . They dont think Indy can beat them. WHich is pretty Ignorant. Thats why Colts fans want the Pats. To be the man you have to beat the man.

Its gunna happen too.

It is true that the Colts defense isn't as bad as it gets credit for, but realistically they do give up hella points, and when they play a team that slows them down it bites them in the ass. They probably won't get to the AFC championship this season because both New England and Pittsburgh are better teams, both with the defensive capibility to slow the Colts offense and with the offensive capibilities to outscore them.

I think that comment by Triple A is priceless, why would the people in Indy want the Patriots? They should want the Jets or something.

Triple A
12-09-2004, 10:36 AM
Oh you meant they want them as in they want to play them. AWKWARD WORDING.

Triple A
12-09-2004, 10:39 AM
The Jets could beat the Colts with the way the Jets style is. When the Jets played the Patriots earlier this season, the Pats only had two posessions for the entire first half. The Texans only had three posessions in the first half last week against the Jets.

They run the ball and control the clock and keep the ball away from the other team's offense. And their running game would destroy the Colts.

RP
12-09-2004, 10:43 AM
No i meant we wanna take them to our offices , hog tie them and bring out the gimps pulp fiction style.

WTF of course i mean play them.

BCwwf : Colts give up 21 a game. 12th best in league. If by slowing the colts down you mean keeping them from scoring 45 points ( which is there average the last 5 games ) Then i ask you this. Is the patriots or Steelers gunna be able to put more then 35 points up in a game? Steelers with a rookie qb mind you. Maybe the Patriots. But i'm not buying into the Steelers at all. They've been good and have beaten the best this season. But they have a Rookie QB leading them in the playoffs. Something tells me he's gunna stumble.

RP
12-09-2004, 10:44 AM
The Jets defense would be sucking wind after the 1st half. Manning would shred you guys. Your running game probably would dominate tho. Martin for some reason has always dominated the Colts. But you arent gunna out score the colts.

Triple A
12-09-2004, 10:47 AM
The Colts wouldn't score 45 points against the Steelers, Pats, or Jets D.

BCWWF
12-09-2004, 10:51 AM
Ben Roethlesburger can do whatever he wants because he is throwing to Hines Ward, Plexico Burress, and Antwan Randel El. That is the second best recieving corps in the league (behind your Colts) but then they also have a defense. BRB w/ more

RP
12-09-2004, 10:52 AM
45 would be a prayer. 35 would be a reality.

RP
12-09-2004, 10:53 AM
I'm dont doubt what the Steelers or Pats have. What i'm saying is. Rookie qb's have always stumbled at one point. I have to believe Big Ben will have a bad game in the playoffs.

Triple A
12-09-2004, 10:55 AM
I think the Colts could definitely beat the Steelers...

The Pats though, I dunno. I feel like if they play, the Colts would somehow be held to like 3 points or the Patriots would score like 52 somehow.

BCWWF
12-09-2004, 10:55 AM
Tennesee 51-24
Detroit 41-9
Chicago 41-10
Houston 49-14
Minnesota 31-28

Those are their last 5 games and really that doesn't impress me one bit. The only good team they played was Minnesota, who isn't very good, didn't have Randy Moss, and has a defense comparable to the Colts. If they can only beat Minnesota 31-28 at home when they don't have their best player, think of what a team like New England can do to the Colts outside in Foxboro.

By no means am I saying that the Colts are bad or that they have no chance to win the Super Bowl, I am just saying that they are by no means favorites especially with the trend of defense winning in the playoffs.

Bad Guy
12-09-2004, 02:28 PM
Well, they do suck on defense. And ass at that. Just lucky to have really good players on offense. I really don't think that their offense will be able to do everything all the way to the Superbowl, eventually they are going to run out of gas.

BabyHugger
12-09-2004, 03:47 PM
I think the Colts can score 40 against the Jets. The Jets would be taken out of their game quicker than the Colts being taken out of theirs. If the Jets are down 21-0 or 21-7 I doubt they will still keep the pace slow. Colts are the best team in the NFL IMO. They better win this year. Patriots are boring.

The same reasons you give for the Colts D letting up big plays is the same reason they get a lot of their sacks and turnovers.

Teams down 2-3 TD's, put the ball up and don't keep people back to block, they also try and force things, both allow more turnovers.

I don't think the Colts have the worst Defense, it's not bad, but it's not good enough to win it all.

I don't see the Colts being able to beat the Pats, Steelers or Jets in the playoffs.

Now, if Law and Poole don't come back, then the Colts could give the Pats fits, but word is both are ready to play, but Belicheck is keeping them out for extra rest since the div is basicly wrapped up.

As for Rothlesberger, he's good, but if you look at the last few games he hasn't done that well, but they have still run the ball well which helps a great deal. I think he'll get it back together for the playoffs, and even if he is a little off, the Steelers D & Running game will allow for him to make a mistake and not cost them a game.

If the season was over today.
Steelers & Pats get Bye's
Colts and SD both host for game round #1
Jets and either Ravens or Broncos would be road teams.

I think it will come down to Pats v. Steelers.
The Jets are good and playing good ball, I just don't see them beating the Pats or Steelers in the playoffs on the road.
As for the Colts, the key is, if the teams they play make mistakes they will kill them, w/ the points they put up, but every team in the playoff picture has good running games and the ability to run the ball, which will keep the Colts offense off the field and expose the Colts defense.

Rain Man is right, because playing in a dome is a huge advantage. If the Colts had an AFC Championship Game in New England and it was cold and/or snowing, their whole offense would be off its game. An offense like that doesn't fare too well outside of a dome, I would know, the Vikings can be a really good team but always have trouble with the Bears and Packers in December. They need home field advantage to win.

VonErich Lives

I also think the NFL would like to see the Steelers v. Pats in the AFC championship.

Both big TV areas.

The Pats looking to avenge the loss that broke the streak
The Steelers looking to avange the loss in 2001 AFC championship.

Just think, you could have 2 teams 15-1 (16-1 w/ the playoff game) facing each other in the AFC championship.

If the Pats were looked at as the mean older brother (Bulls during the 1990's, Lakers 2000-2003, Yankees) and the Colts were still the underdog team who was just trying to get over that hump, then I think that would be a huge marketing scheme. The only problem is that people still like the Patriots and the Colts aren't really an underdog. Well I mean they are, but they shouldn't be.

Yeah, the Colts (offensively) are like watching the Rams a few years ago, problem is, the other playoff teams are all setup to beat an Indy style team.

Yeah, the Patriots are much better this year aswell. Patriots actually have a running game this time around. They didn't have anytime of a running game last year and they still won. Now they got a probowl running back carrying the load.

I am not saying the Patriots are head and shoulders above the Colts, or that they will kill the Colts in the playoffs. I just feel the Patriots are a better team then the Colts, and have proved it many times the last few years. People just pick the Colts because they are flashy and exciting. Patriots are probably a boring ass team to watch unless you live in New England. But being from New England I don't give a shit. I'd take the W's

They have the best QB in football, but unfortunately he cant do anything about their D.

As others have mentioned, its not that the Colts are so bad on D, its just that they are clearly worse than the other top teams in football.

The AFC playoffs should be amazing this year. Colts, Jets, Pats and Steelers all look awesome, and then you've got some wildcard teams like whoever comes out of the West.

As for what the NFL wants, I think they'll take the Pats against anyone really. If they play the Steelers, there is a story there with the rematch, and if its the Colts, you've got Manning to build on. Either way its good for the NFL.

Seems like the Eagles should waltz through the NFC. They are clearly the best team in a weak conference, but its hard to say if they are on the same level as the AFC teams. Of course I could see the Eagles winning it all, just because the AFC teams will kill each other to get to the Super Bowl.
