The new MK will be called Mortal Kombat Devastation. It is in pre-productio right now, with no cast list as of right now, but it is slated for a 2005 release.

I heard somewhere that Trish Stratus was signed on for the part of Sonya Blade. This was listed a while back on TPWW.net I believe.

I wish that they could get the original guy that played Lue Kang (believe I messed that up). I dont know what that actor guy is doing now but that was one of the only good things about the 2nd movie. Basically everything else about it sucked....including the worst ending that could ever of been written.

That was just a rumour, although Trish would make a great Sonya Blade, and I could see her given the role (I'm not sure how Midway and the MK Team figure into movie castings, but I think they're on good terms with the WWE).

I think Robin Shou will return to play Liu Kang, and yes Ia gree, MK Annihilation was fairly poor. Kitana and Mileena didn't even look alike and they passed them off as twins. :wtf:

From what I've read over at MortalKombatOnline, Linden Ashby should be returning as Johnny Cage. He was reported saying something about the MK3 movie during an interview.

I also read in a GamePro magazine that Robin Shou was signed to a 3 picture deal when it comes to Mortal Kombat. This was at the least 4 or 5 years ago though so you never know what could've happened between now and then.

Really, I don't think it's going to work. Since the last movie, there have been 3 more games which evolved the storyline far past what any one movie can explain. In order to make this series work as a trilogy, I think they'd have to make each movie 3 hours long and stretch it out a bit kind of like the Lord of the Ring's trilogy.

I've always thought the story of the game was great, and I thought the first movie was good, but after MK2 came out I was completely turned off at the idea of another MK movie.

Who cares about story when its mortal kombat....just fighting is good....fighting that doesnt involve people turning into beasts to fight at the end.

As for Johnny Cage returning...I want to know how this is gonna get pulled off since they made the big mistake (IMO) when they killed him off in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd movie

It's Mortal Kombat for crying out loud, People die all the time in the Story, yet are always bought back, that was the reason, Johnny Cage didn't appear in the MK3 Video Game, then they made his storyline, that he returned to life, The same thing with Liu Kang, who died in Deadly Alliance but returns in Mortal Kombat Deception

I don't mind the idea of characters returning, or another movie, AS LONG as it doesn't try to pack it full of useless characters, and jam too much in.

I thought both Mortal Kombat movies sucked.

The second one just sucked a hell of a lot more than the first.

Storylines in Mortal Kombat mean shit, if anyone dies Shang Tsung can just bring them back and if Shang Tsung dies someone else will take over his power, rinse and repeat.

And since when did films take any notice of the game storylines? I mean look at the following examples of films that hard nothing to do with the games:

Super Mario Brothers
Resident Evil (well it was in Racoon city and had Zombies, that's it)
Street Fighter

According to the story, Johnny Cage was killed, but his soul was caught between Earth and Heaven because of the portals Shao Kahn opened to invade the Earth Realm. Some how this allowed him to come back to life.

Alienoid mentioned how they packed in useless characters, and I think that this will be the death of MK3. In MK2 they even mentioned the death of some characters without even showing them. I believe it was Ermac that announced that Kabal and Stryker were killed.
