I've been a wrestling fan for as long as I rememeber. I think I was 5 in like 1988, so I voted 80's.

I've been a fan since mid-late 1996, because the first wrestling event I went to was just before WrestleMania 13 in 1997, and I was obviously a fan for a while before that.

A couple of weeks before Wrestlemania I.

oh crap I picked 90's but I think late 89 would still count as 90's right?

The Answer

Well... wrestling has always been a part of my family cause my Grandfather watched it and my father watched it and my older brother watched it...

I never really went out of my way to actually watch it every week though. I knew the characters and everything but I didn't watch it unless someone else was watching it and I had nothing else to do.

When I first started to really watch it... I remember it exactly. We had ordered a PPV.... Summerslam I believe... Undertaker vs. Mankind in a Boiler Room Brawl where Paul Bearer turned on Taker. After that I really started to watch wrestling.

So I'll select 90s.

Let's see I was born in 87.

From around age 4-7 all I knew about wrestling was to cheer for Hulk Hogan cause he was what wrestling was all about. I watched every once and while always marking out for Bret Hart and Undertaker. Then in 96 when the nWo formed and Hogan turned and all that crap, and I became a huge WCW fan and started watching every chance I got, and it's been that way ever since.

February-ish 99. I recall the first RAW I saw had Rock vs. Mankind in a Ladder match for the title. First PPV I got was WM XV

Around 1986. I have wrestlemania, the very first one on tape, although the condition is now crappy and it's in black and white.
I also recall being hooked in by Rowdy Roddy Piper, and Mr. Wonderful, along with Bob Orton. I recall them beating up some kid on a street or something for a promo, or whatever. Piper was the man, and Piper's Pit ruled all.
Saturday Night Main Event, I recall it all.

80's

Wrestlemania IV

Loose Cannon
12-22-2004, 12:06 AM
yeah, Saturday night was the greatest. You have to remember, back then there was no wrestling program on at nights. So when the annual SNME program came it was like a huge event.

And the worst for me back then was not understanding what PPV was. I remember crying in 89 because I thought the Rumble was going to be on USA Network and my mom told me it was on a channel we didn't have. That really brought me down :'(

Since I was four, which would translate to around 1988. Back when Earthquake and Tugboat and Hogan were cool. :D

I started watching in March 2002. The first thing I recall seeing is Kane talking about being a monster and than he got beat up by the NWO after a match. X-Pac took his mask off if my memory serves me correctly.

I watch Wrestling when I was kid, in the very early 90's, however, about 94, I stopped watching wrestling until Early 98, which is why I voted for that instead of the earier

Kapoutman

The first show I ever saw was Wrestlemania 1 itself, so I chose the second option.

Why was the poll closed?Anyway i first became a fan in feb 2000, i remember watching raw for the first time with my cousin and being hyped up about the no way out ppv, really looking forward to the mick foley match(which turned out to be shit, apart from the last 10 minutes of it or so) i think my cousin taped it for me cos i didnt get sky back then, but wrestling was actually the thing that made me want to get sky.

I wonder where that no way out 2000 tape has gone, ive lost about 10 wrestling tapes that i recorded, including my fav one, summerslam 2000, i have no idea where they went...

My first wrestling memory was the build up to the Hogan/Beefcake/Savage/Zeus match at Summerslam 1989. So, I voted '80s, even though I didn't get to be a "die-hard" fan until about 1991.

I liked wrestling as a kid, but I got back into it during the big Mankind/Rock feud. I remember always wondering why people would boo the guy who was in shape, and cheer the flabby guy who looked like he'd get his ass kicked in a heartbeat. My friends always thought I was weird for cheering the rock on when everyone else was chanting "Rocky sucks"

Ol Dirty Dastard

watched bits and pieces in the 80's-90's.

Became a serious fan in 1999. Thanks to The Rock

Side note- I thought wrestling was lame around 1996-1998. My friends' used to do the crotch chop. I fucking hated that shit back then.

The 80's...Four Horsemen are the reason I watched wrestling. Hogan could go bite a dick for all I care. I remember Randy Savage was the first guy from WWF who I actually liked, and the only reason I liked him was I thought he might be able to beat and thus dethrone Hogan at WrestleMania 5....how wrong I was :(

Oh yeah...Hogan Still Sucks.

I thought I voted in this thread allready, or was that PDD? Anyway I clicked 90's and I meant 99 is when I started watching... March of 99, I was in grade 7, I remember. My dad went to this WCW event because he was supposed to do buisness with WCW Management who wanted him to create a WCW lottery ticket which he refused to do.

I started watching before this but this is the first time I saw Nitro. It was the night of Jericho's anti canadian speech and all the Canadians were chanting his name "As I was walking down the streets of Toronto looking up at the blue skies... I realized something. Canada sucks!" It was funny cause of the transition he made from the cheers to sudden boos. He was supposed to be a heel anyway, but because he was Canadian they cheered him.

That night was also when Bret Hart came to the ring with a Toronto Maple leafs jersey and "retired" from wrestling, but called out Goldberg before doing so. Goldberg came out and speered him but was knocked out immediately afterwords with the use of a steel plate.

That was the first entire wrestling show I sat through because I was looking for my dad in the audience the entire time. But I did watch some wrestling in the early 90's and though Jake "the snake" Roberts was the man.

The first match I saw was Undertaker vs Kane Inferno match at Unforgiven in 1998, but that was a fluke via channel hopping.

Saw my first RAW in May 1999 (when Austin got strapped to Undertakers symbol).

First PPV (if you can call it that when its on Sky sports) was Over The Edge 1999. I came downstairs Monday morning and my mum said "that wrestler who wears blue died last night". I'm standing there thinking "Shamrock? Blackman killed him in the Lions Den?" Then GMTV news came on and said it was Owen and it showed footage of JR talking to the home audience, then footage of a press conference with Vince McMahon.

Now my brother makes jokes about that.
