I know people have come on here with their opinons of the DVD quite a lot but I finally bought it so now it's my turn.
Firstly, I thought it was pretty entertaining and insightful to somebody that never really watched it. However, I think it could've been better.
I wanting to see or at least hear about some of the crazier stuff. I didn't see much barbed wire, no cage matches, no balcony dives, no scaffolding matches. I would've liked to hear at least the concept behind some of those such as scaffolding matches or the stairway to hell (whatever it was called).
I got pretty tired of seeing tables breaking and lack of ring psychology. I mean, a dude gets thrown through a table and two seconds later is doing a suicide half gainer dive onto his opponent. I mean, wtf.
I'm also a little disappointed that I didn't see any Brian Pillman stuff. I"m not sure how big of a role he played but I read about him showing up being a huge thing. It would've been nice to see.
Finally, I'm pretty disappointed in the matches they did show. 2 Cold Scorpio VS Sabu kinda sucked. Scorpio sucked to be exact, he didn't seem to know what he was doing. Rey Mysterio Vs Psycosis was good but I'm sure there were better matches to choose from.
So all in all I give the dvd a B+

I was just about to post a topic like this. I got The Rise and Fall of ECW for Christmas, and I must say it is one of the best watches I have seen. There is just something about it. It doens't teach you much about the wrestlers, or the business, but there is some kind of glue there.
I am currently just up to the part where Heyman is talking about brining in the cruiserweights like Rey Mysterio and Psychosis. I'll have more thoughts up when I am finished the DVD. Anyway, I hope they release a three or four disc set with full matches from ECW, with commentary and interviews about each one. Maybe have something like the build-up, Heyman's comments, what it meant to/for the other superstars, etc. Maybe have Al Snow, Tazz and Heyman on commentary?
On the DVD I really liked the documentary of it. As for the matches, well I was hoping for a bit better. Personally I thought that the RVD/Lynn match at Living Dangerously was better. I also would have liked to have seen one of the Tajiri/Super Crazy matches and some other stuff. Otherwise it was a very good DVD. Better than the Monday Night Wars DVD which was good as well.

I dunno, I don't think the purpose of the DVD was to show the great matches, I'm sure there will be DVD's released w/ matches and such.
The purpose of the DVD was a documentry to tell a story.
I did find it interesting that they talked about the Mass Transit briefly in to how it related to the PPV being canceled and talked about how NJ beat the crap out of the kid, but didn't mention that the kid almost bleed to death and the whole "blading" incident. Probably for legal reasons is my guess.

They didnt talk about Eric Kudas at all. Or whatever his name is. (The 18-19 year old kid who New Jack bladed with an exacto knife and cut too deep, severing the arteries)
They definitly needed more extras. Like Taz vs Sabu and the match, I dont know off the top of my head, a triple threat, someone was leaving and the champ got pinned and everyone was in shock, and he went up the ramp and everyone said goodbye. They should have added that.
THe last two chapters are two of my favorites :)

Altho I finally understand the whole Mass Transit incident now. I'd only seen the video of the blading but never knew the whole context before...

I agree with you that the DVD was more about the story of ECW than the matches, but there are so many historicly important matches that they could have thrown on. Only two of the major matches talked about on the documentary made it onto the dvd.
Also, where the fuck was Francine, Justin Credible, and Chris Candido?

Yeah me too. I only knew the small details of it but after hearing about what it resulted in and just what happened.

I finished watching the DVD, and if they released a "Best fo ECW" DVD now, I'd be one of the first to go out and buy it. Simply a magical DVD. Makes me which Paul Heyman was still booking SmackDown!.

Argh! OK. To whoever it was (Honestly I am a little to pissed right now to even go back and check) but to whoever made the comment about barbwire, flaming table, cage matches...ECW was about so much more then that. It was about an attitude, a revolution, and the best wrestling you could find at the time. The comment about lack of in ring psychology couldn't be further from the truth.
My ONLY complaint about the DVD was that is didn't focus enough on Shane Douglas. The Franchise did alot for that company and that fact they basically overlooked him was a grave misjustice. The lack of Credible, Corino, and some others didn't bother me too bad. I mean on a whole Justin just didn't do much for the ECW brand.
Oh and my other comaplint was how they handled giving the title to Tommy Dreamer...they kind of neglected to mention that he lost the title that very night, and that there was 5 champions that fallowed him. But still overall the DVD was good, 3 hours just wasn't enough time to cover all that needed to be covered to give it the full effect.

I understand that ECW was about a lot more than barbwire, cage matches etc. etc. etc. but it would've been nice to see and understand the concept behind some of them. I would've liked to see the cage match where ravens is handcuffed to the cage and Dreamer canes him. That's all I've seen of that match so I was hoping to see the entire match. I just got really tired of seeing a guy go through a couple tables in one match and win.

It seemed to me like the matches weren't supposed to be the best of, but rather just hidden gems that give you a taste of what ECW had to offer. I think if we do see another ECW DVD, it will be packed tot he rim with some of the best matches, with background stories.

Yes, I put of buying it for quite a while. An ECW dvd under the WWE name just didn't seem appealing. But I'm glad I got it. I thought it did justice to ECW and the reputation they continue to have today. As for the matches, I partially agree. I was expecting to see the "Night the Line Was Crossed" match finally, but alas, I still have to wait. I also agree that the RVD and Jerry Lynn match from Living Dangerously was better than the one shown on the DVD.
My only complaint was one that was already mentioned. The lack of time spent on Shane Douglas. He was a great heel and a great champion. Definitely an essential key to ECW. People always throw out names like Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, etc. when they name the greatest champions ever. I like to put Shane Douglas' name into the mix as well. I have a lot of respect for the guy.
