I have been asked this same question by many readers so I thought I would answer it publicly for all to see...

Dear Joey,

I have just found this web site here in england and if possible this is a question to Joey " OH MY GOD" styles.

I've been a big fan of ECW since 1999 ( I know I started late) Just bought the WWE ECW DVD which I very much enjoyed.

Anyway there are rumours as you know of WWE doing a ECW PPV later in the year and I just wondered what your take on this is Joey ?

Personally if it is done right i think it could work. The only way i think it could work would is to give complete control to Paul Heyman including:

Letting him book it and oversee the PPV Have no McMahons anyway near it Sign some of the wrestlers to one night deals that made ECW famous such as Sandman, Raven, Terry Funk, Shane Douglas and Sabu.

Some of the ECW wrestlers are under contracts to WWE anyway so people like Tommy Dreamer and The Dudleys I'm sure would jump at the chance.

The only problem I can see apart from the McMahons is wrestlers such as Raven and Shane Douglas as far as I know are under contract to TNA.

And of cause only one man could do the announcing for the night.

A reply would be greatly received.

Thank you.

Stuart Dawson England

Dear Stuart,

Thank you for supporting ECW and buying the WWE ECW DVD. I cannot speak for everyone who worked for ECW, but seeing the sales of The Rise and Fall of ECW make me proud and I very much want it to become the best selling WWE DVD of all time just to cement ECW's place in history.

As for the WWE promoted ECW pay-per-view which is rumored to be scheduled for June 5, 2005 at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City, I do not think it will actually happen.

Paul Heyman is on the outs again with Stephanie McMahon for allegedly secretly listening in on a RAW writers conference call. Not everyone in WWE management is in favor of reviving ECW and without Paul's involvement, I do not think they will bother with the project at all.

If they do, Paul (or anyone else) will never be given complete control of anything, nor should they. If the McMahons are paying for the project, they should have final say on everything. I do agree that having Paul Heyman and Tommy Dreamer book the show and submit it to the McMahons for final approval is the best course of action.

As for ECW talent, WWE has The Dudley Boys, Stevie Richards, Guido (Nunzio), Tommy Dreamer, Lance Storm and Mick Foley at their disposal. I would suggest they sign Justin Credible, Terry Funk, The Sandman, Sabu, Steve Corino, Mike Awesome and Masato Tanaka to one night contracts.

Unfortunately, three of the greatest ECW champions ever, Raven, Shane Douglas and Taz are not available to wrestle on the show. Raven and Shane are with TNA and Taz is retired and would probably be the color commentator for the show.

As for me, I have given this a good deal of thought and I would (if offered), do play-by-play for the show. However, there is some history between myself and WWE and I doubt they will offer me the spot despite the fact that my participation would add a needed stamp of credibility to the show. To be honest, I do not know how any other announcer can call the show and be accepted by ECW fans.

Thank you for your kind words and thank you for supporting 1wrestling.com.

Happy New Year.
Joey Styles

With the rumored release of Paul Heyman, and due to the fact that alot of former ECW stars have some history/heat with WWE, I am growing more and more positive by the minute that this idea will never come to pass.

And Joey hit it dead on the head with everything he said.

Hehe... I oughta rep Joey Styles... oh if only that wasn't a quoted post. :shifty:

But yeah, he hit it right on the nail. They'd surprise me a ton if they went through and did NOT screw it up.

I agree with everything he said. Except WWE does have a LOT more talent at their disposal than that.

You do realise you posted in the wrestling forum? Was that an accident?

I never saw that much ECW (in fact, only one show) but I did have ECW Anarchy Rulz and ECW Hardcore Revolution for Sega Dreamcast, and Joey Styles was an excellent commentator. So much better than Cole, maybe even better than JR. The only downside to the commentary was Joel Gertner as colour commentator. But then again, I didn't realise his gimmick. If I had it wouldn't have been so bad.

But yeah, Styles got it right on the money with that one. :y:
