View Full Version : Brand Split!

I just realised why I hate the roster split so god damn much! Aside from the fact that I get to see the guys I like half as much and the guys I don't like more then I would like...and aside from the fact that there is no actual heat between the two brands...but here is what I dislike about the extention so much...
There is nothing different about them! Back in the heydays there was ECW (Extreme/Risk Taking) there was WWF (Their spoken attitude/fun gimmicks) and there was WCW (Old School style/Fancy Clean Atmosphere)...they offered a different feeling. Each of them had a different style of filming, a different feel to the air, different emphasises...but SmackDown and Raw are the same.
With that in mind, the fact that they are both the same, it makes me go crazy with the roster split. All their doing is limiting the air time of certain stars to get them over. I am sorry this sounds cold and heartless, but I don't like to see Reigns, Heidenrich, Tomko, and about a dozen other OVW guys brought up to fill in empty spots on the roster due to both brands needing 50 wrestlers. And I can't understand why WWE continues to do this? Financially it can't make too much sense, they are shelling out dozen of contracts they dont need to be spending money on.
Again I know this is their livelyhoods, but maybe they can find another way to get that income in. Or they can wrestle indie shows for $200 a night...I dont know...I just want this to stop and I want to have one mother fucking company again! We are coming up on 3 years of this and it has yet to work out for anyone...maybe Paul London got a bit more air time...but look at it now, he is a mid-card wrestler for a weak company as oposed to being a jobber for a strong company (hell Funaki was a jobber of a strong company and now gets to be the Champion of a weak one)...erghhhh! I think after WrestleMania 21 they should end the extention, cut the dead weight (and believe me there is ALOT of it) and move forward to never look back on this again...
*Sits back and waits for the Neg Rep I am bound to get for my "heartless" comments about the wrestler's jobs*

SD! is more wrestling.
RAW is more stories.

You make some good points, but I absolutely disagree.
Without the brand split, there'd be no John Cena. No Randy Orton. No Rene Dupree. No Chris Benoit World Title push. No cruiserweight division (not that there's much of one now). No Highlight Reel. No Eddie Guerrero WWE Title push. No Booker T WWE Title push. William Regal would be just another lower-midcard jobber instead of a Tag Team Champion. Ditto for RVD. You'd be getting four hours of Evolution and Undertaker and Shawn Michaels and you'd be begging for an alternative.
Who cares if they look alike? I kinda think about it like the American and National Leagues in baseball. Or the Eastern and Western conferences in basketball. They're the same entity, but each half has their own stuff to play for (division titles, conference championships, etc.)
I'd much rather have a WWF vs. WCW thing going on right now, but that's not going to happen, so I'm satisfied with what I have. When there's a good RAW, I look forward to the next week's. It's hard to build suspense over three days.

There is no way of telling something like that. I am more then positive that Chris Benoit would have won the World Title with or without the brand split...your point on Eddie Gurerrero is somewhat valid, though look at his reign and look at how he won it, etc....he didn't really get a push, just handed the title becuase they had no one else who could carry the ball...and now he is back down to upper-mid card. I think Randy Orton would have been just as big (and his IC Title reign would have been that much more impressive). People like Regal, RVD, and Jericho got over just fine and dandy with one roster...hell at the last event of before the split Regal and RVD battles over the IC Title...now they are tag champs, in my eyes that is a step down. The only person who I really see as possibly not getting over without the split is John Cena, but yet I think he would still be over, just not as over as he is right now.
And there is a difference between RAW/SmackDown and American/National league...at the end of the season they come together to see which one is better and there is tons of bragging rights that go along with it...in this fashion we have two "World Champions" and no way of resolving things...unless we go back to Undisputed Title...which even there I don't like it. Plus WWE is year round amd I am stoned right now so I don't know how being year round vs. seasonal is different but it kind of makes sense in my head.

I totally agree, you saved my lazy ass from typing out a whole post. Rep for you.

How do you mean WWE is a "weak company"? There's no stronger company around now...or ever, for that matter.

I mean a company that is falling short of their goals by millions a year...I mean a company that is reaching some of the lowest ratings it has ever done...I mean a company with divided focus...but most I am talking about SmackDown as a company in it of itself...
It was done more in a sense of comparision from where it has been to where it is now...no your right right now there is no bigger or stronger company in the world, but just becuase your number one doesn't mean you should just sit back and coast on that...like what Exxon Mobil is doing...in 2 years projections are BP [6th largest company in the world/2nd largest oil company] will pass Exxon Mobil [2nd largest company in the world/1st largest oil company]...don't just sit on your ass...change something...make your product strong...don't hand out huge sallaries if they can't put asses in the seats!

See, that makes more sense.

To reply to your coment about why you can't understand why the WWE keeps this up, it's because they can't turn back now. Frankly, if my boss told me that my meager $250 for a 20 hour workweek were to become a meager $250 for a 40 hour workweek, I think I'd be just a little bit pissed.

I don't think the split should end, but in a way I think the current way things are run should.
Someone posted a little bit of handy information that 50-60% of people watch only one show, and it would make much more sense that the more popular show is RAW. So why not have SD! stars "invade" RAW. Have blue and white balloons with SD! written on them be released into the crowd advertising SD!. This would be GREAT during a big match no RAW.
On SD!, don't have so many promos and backstage segments. Have maybe two backstage segments a show, and the only time a wrestler can go to the ring is when they are wrestling. In the time SD! is one, I can see up to eight matches taking place. There are four divisions. That's at least TWO matches for each division, plus you can have divison based episodes. Whow ouldn't tune in for a cruiserweight night on SmackDown!, that's seen what these guys can do. In the main event you can have JBL vs. Rey Mysterio for the WWE Championship (with Theodore R. Long forcing JBL to come to the arena alone, and if any of his cabinet show up, they're fired on the spot). Then The Bashams cost ey the match, are fired and show up on RAW.
By making the shows different (and putting Heyman back in the writing seat), you'd automatically get a rivalry going, and that can only spell good things, IMO.

They can still do it if they want. Where else could the wrestlers go for the same wages they're getting?

They said the same thing about WCW when they started Thunder.
