there have been many Resident evils. but 4 falls in sequence number wise. also I beleive 0 was the last one to come out (I could be wrong and it could be outbreak) so basically the resident evil number system is a little mixed... Anyway i want to pick this game up as well.
It looks good to me. *SPOILERS BELOW*

No Zombies/Umbrella though. After spanning so many games, they literally get snuffed out in a 1 minute, 25 second cutscene. There's always a chance of Capcom bringing back old plots, because I'd imagine there would be tons of people pissed if the classic RE story had no closure.
This time around, the villagers are infected with an ancient PLAGUE, not a virus. They literally have parasites in them controlling them. They are called 'Ganado' which is Spanish for cattle. It might not be the classic RE story, but the lowest score it's gotten so far was 9.5/10, which is very good. I'm looking forward to how this one shapes up. Got mine preordered from Gamestop, with all of the extras.

Ive been anticipating this game for so long....im not gonna go out and purchase it just because I have a problem of buying a game and not playing it till im done with another....(example: I got GTA: San Andreas and played it, Later that day I got Snake Eater and I havnt even played it) So instead im getting RE4 off Gamefly and testing it out. Then If I like it for the whole time that I have it and I can atleast stay in the story I will pick the game up somewhere.

Looks like you won't be playing another game for a long long while...
However, atleast you're better then me, who goes out and buys games at will...and because of that, I've haven't really gotten Halfway on Halo 2, The only game I've beaten since I started buying games again was MGS3 Snake Eater

It's still the whole "press forward on the stick to walk and hold B to run" deal. And they don't even give you a strafe button this time around
The camera is supposed to be better, but I can't say anything since I haven't played any of the demos

I was actually thinking about getting a Gamecube just to get this game, but I'm going to tough it out and wait for the December PS2 release.
I saw a review on G4TV (right before they took the channel off of our line up here) and it looks awesome.
Without a doubt my favorite concept is this. Do you remember how you could be surrounded by a ton of zombies, then simply go in another room and you were safe? Not anymore. The zombies will all group together and knock the door down, cut it down with a chainsaw, or whatever they feel like doing. Also, if you're hiding on a roof... they'll go find a ladder and come up after you.
RE4's AI is going to be amazing.

That's a good setup for my cool RE4 demo story. I went into one house and Leon pushed a box in front of the door to keep the villagers out. Well as he does this you hear chainsaw noises just outside. I ran upstairs (and found a shotgun) and encountered people on the roof outside. I killed them by shooting through the window; then walked over to the other window where the villagers had a ladder set up to get in. I pushed that over. I turned back around to find 3 of them coming up the stairs after me, I focused on them as I heard the ladder come back up to the window. As I was shooting at those 3 my head was cut clean off by a chainsaw :( Aparently its NOT unlikely for the chainsaw guy to climb the ladder too, lol.
BTW for those who haven't experienced it yet, the enemies are ruthless in this game. The chainsaw guys do not go for anything but the kill, you can have a completely full health bar and they'll still just cut off your head. You better be quick on your feet and quick at reloading, they don't mess around.
That brings me to one other point that I feel is a vast improvement over other RE games. You actually have a health bar in this one instead of just that little pulse meter thing. It's also a part of the HUD, you don't have to pause the game to find out how close you are to dying.
Kenny

Wow, you got me wanting to go out and get a Gamecubet. Tickets go on sale for WWE No Way Out here soon... so I'll probably get one and RE4 after I get my tickets. I think I can get a revamped Gamecube for 70 - 80 bucks up at EB.
From what you just told us it really sounds like the game has a "Horror movie" kind of feel. That's what I've been looking for for years.

It took me a while before I actually figured out you could manually reload by means other than the menu. I kept thinking to myself they needed to add it before the final version then one of my friends mentioned holding the aim button and pressing B. I felt pretty stupid. It took us even longer to discover the quick turn.

Well, I can't remember exactly what the deal was, but things have been broken since 2003, Since A Few Resident Evil games have came out on PS2 in the last year, thoses being Dead Aim and Outbreak...
I think the agreement is, Nintendo get's first dibs on any of the Resident Evil games that are directly involved in the storyline....Either that, or Capcom knows, it will cash in on more money, making it muiti-platform...

I only got to play for like an hour today before I had to go to work and sell it to other people, lol. But anyway, what I played was pretty fucking great. Enemies are even smarter than they were in the demo, however you also get a lot more ammo.
In one area there are like 4 or 5 guys throwing dynamite sticks at you, but if you shoot them and don't kill them they'll light one up and run towards you taking the rest of the shots just so they blow you up on the way down.
You can't even put the controller down during cutscenes. I sat it down next to me and was watching the little cinematic sequence when all of the sudden I was killed because I didn't hit the L and R buttons. This game does everything it can to keep you paying attention and on the edge of your seat. From what I can tell (and have read) the quick button mashes like that are not always the same, so you can't really anticipate it 100% of the time.

I've made it through the end of chapter 2-1 so far. I've been blown away by graphics and effects, not to mention the enemies lol. I've fought a couple of HUGE monster things but I'll keep things spoiler free for now. Things are getting really strange and the game seems to keep getting better.
I noticed a quality in this game that I've only ever experienced before in Half-Life 2. Just as the game feels like it might get a little repetitive, they change it up on you. Again I won't give anything away yet, but for those worrying about repetitive gameply I can say, at least thus far, you have nothing to worry about.
I was shit at any of these that I bought but I think I'll give it a whirl when I've some cash need some new games

No, he can die, it just takes a little bit, I remember hitting him with a Granade, him going down, getting back up, hitting him with another one, getting back up, and then I unloaded about 4 or 5 Shotgun blast into him, my suggestion after you hit him with the Granades....Aim for the knees, he'll go down for a few seconds and unload...rinse and repeat and you should be okay

You can sorta save ammo, Just unload on him, until he kneel's down and the Parasite sticks out of his body, don't fire anymore..run up to him, and press A when the screen motions for it, Leon will run and climb up the guy, and will jump on his back and start slashing away with his knife, you have to press the A Button Repeatly to slash more and more, just repeat this and you're save some ammo for yourself

In the old RE games you would unlock different stuff based on how many times you save, die, and what you collect. However, this one doesn't do anything like that. I have heard something about an alternate ending, but I dunno if it's true or not.
The PS2 version better have a lot more features for making me wait this long.

I made it back to the castle in my second play through in about an hour and a half of game time. The game is just RIDICULOUSLY easy on the 2nd round, its fun. It's nice going through places without your nerves on end and knowing you can just kill anything and everything fairly quickly.
On the other hand, the Mercenaries mode is the hardest #$#@@#$ing thing ever!!! There's a 10 ft tool chainsaw guy that RUNS AND JUMPS just swinging the chainsaw around like crazy. There's no reaction time involved, he'll just slice your head right off and keep swinging. I got some wicked combos on that level before he appeared, but I just can't ever avoid getting my head cut off at some point.

It took me 15hrs to beat it. It takes the majority of that to get to the second disc. Disc 2 is VERY short.
I beat Assignment Ada today, it was pretty easy once you get inside the building. The first part of it and the very last part of it are the only really difficult parts. You have to fight Krauser at the end :(
I unlocked Ada in Mercs, but I'm not sure how well I'll be able to unlock the rest. I don't have patience for it I guess. It's fun for a bit, but I do awesome in the dock level killing like 20 people in a row and racking up an awesome score when the huge ass chainsaw guy comes and cuts my head off without hesitation. My shotgun bullets don't even phase him. My friend has an action replay, I'll probably just use it

Avoided this thread until I passed it.
El Gigante is easy. Buy a rocket launcher. One hit.
He gives 15k back anyway so you just lose 15k which is nothing if you get all the treasures.
That way, you conserve ammo.
I finished the game with around 200 tmp bullets, 50 rifle bullets, around 30 shotgun shells, and around 20 magnum bullets which i rarely used.
The game is very awesome. A little easier than other Resident Evils but I am NOT complaining. It is the best RE ever.
Also, the zombies cussing in spanish is CLASSIC.
I was ROFL at them all the time.
You know that chant the guys wearing robes chant?
Cojelo or however it's spelled... I am not sure...
It means fu</>ck him in Spanish.
There was also some other stuff which rules.
I love the way censorship is starting to not be too much of an issue.
At least it seems that way with RE4, GTA:SA, and MGS.

It depends on where you're from. Literally it means "grab him" but in certain places (like down here in the south) "fuck him" has been adopted as the correct meaning. I'd be willing to bet they intended it to mean "grab him" though.

I havent unlocked any yet but from the pictures, it looks like Krauser, Ada, and Wesker. I think it's Wesker because of the sunglasses.
I cant figure the other one for the life of me.
The other one is Hunk.

I just kept shooting him until he got close and then took off for the ladder climbed to the second level, kept firing until he got close jump doan run back to where you started and keep repeating. I dont think he even got a hit on me.

And if you shoot all 15 coins before redeeming your punisher, the power of the pistol will be at level 2.

WOOO, I beat it tonight. The last part of the game after you beat the last boss was ridiculous. I couldn't believe how many times I died on such a stupid part
Anyway, the second playthrough is like 10x more fun because so far my maxed out weapons are killing everything in one shot :)
Wait, I just beat it and I just started back at square one.
No maxed out weapons or anything :-\

Load your completed game to keep your weapons. If you just start a new game it won't give you anything.

This is probably a stupid question since the game takesplace some years after Resident Evil 2, and I'm soryr if it has been asked before, but if I have not played a previous installment in the Resident Evil series, would I be left out of the loop in this one?
Not so much as it doesn't really involve the other RE's story line.

You might be confused by some things, but it's all explained eventually :o
^ Yep.
And also, the major thing that was removed from RE 4 is returning in the next game anyway, supposedly (hopefully).
Just got finished with my 3rd run through, this time going for speed....3:15:47 isn't too bad. Anyone else still playing this?

AM I the only one who thinks that RE:4 was the best of the series. (I played on the GC if that makes a difference)
Gameplay wise it is the best, but story wise, I think the first one was. I've tried to go back and play REmake, but just couldn't due to it's gameplay sucking now. :(
WAY TO GO RE4 :foc:

I'm not huge on story, for me its a game, so game play is all that matters. If I want a good story I'll watch a movie. I'm not saying due away with story, its just not a big factor for me on a personal level.
Yeah same goes for me, but I think it'll be cool to have the previous RE's remade with RE4's gameplay.
