View Full Version : Reason for length of IC title match
From the headline page
*Mavens match last night was booked to be so short, because of managements lack of confidence in Maven to carry a presentable match at this point. The feeling is that he is not applying himself in his matches recently on house shows. It is amazing that WWE management would go ahead and book this match, when they had concerns going into it.
Kind of interesting. All though in all credit to Maven with what he did on the mic. He had the crowd booing the hell out of him.

thats a really stupid reason. they give him the match and then say its going to really quick. there are loads of guys that could have gone in that match that weren't on any part of the PPV and actually made it last three hours. RAW writers really need a kick up the ass.

That's freakin horrible.Their goes his push
man i'm glad that happend, it had me laughing for so long.
Shelton just comes in and pins his ass.. then maven calls him back, he does a t-bone and pins his ass again
Shelton = ratings

Yeah I mean WWE if you weren't pleased with Maven's recent in ring work, then there is a guy on the roster called Rhyno. Remember him, the man beast, the guy Heyman spent best of a year building up, did a real good job in his character and in matches (Raven/Rhyno at Backlash and Angle/Rhyno on Raw), also got a huge pop when he returned cause fans were so impressed with him.

There's also a guy called Simon Dean who could have gotten in a feud that would have really lifted him off the ground instead of having him fight a couple of guys who have been driven into the ground over the past year or so. And let's not forget Muhammad Hassan, who has that international appeal to go for the international title (yes, I realize his character is still american, but it'd still work) and either guy wouldn't even have to win. They could have jobbed the match to keep the belt in the mighty hands of Shelton, while still boosting their overness.

Exactly what I was going to say. And BTW Gohan3k, the fans weren't really into Shelton at all, it was Maven they were interested in. As much as I like Shelton, right now he's not doing anything noteworthy.
And they put Maven in the Survivor Series main event, then they can't have him go even five minutes with Shelton Benjamin? Then instead of Shelton Benjamin showing some character and saying that was so easy I'm going to give anyone in the back a title shot (after beating Maven the first time), and have any one of their talented wrestlers answer the call (preferbly Rhyno), they have Maven go in and lose any shred of credibility he once had.

Maven is shit to begin with. He still needs ALOT of work

true but rhyno is still very much a face at the moment. which IMO he's not as good at as when he was a heel. it suits his smash-mouth style more. jsut have him gore the crap out of ppl who get in his way for the next weeks and then have him against shelton at the rumble. not that much build-up but this is WWE. also, when RAW was in the UK back in october, he had a match against jericho while jericho was still champ so they obviously do remember who he is. and that followed on from him goring the crap out of jericho in his lumberjack match with HHH. and have heyman screaming GORE all the time as well.

So? If he can't last five minutes, he would have been fired by now.
That's true, John La Rock, but knowing this beforehand, the WWE shouldn't have booked him in a title match on a pay-per-view that was lacking in credible matches to begin with.
Of course, you can't really blame the WWE for this problem. They covered it pretty well by letting Maven use the air-time on the mic (he got more over in my personal books), and made Shelton look like a million bucks with two quick victories.
Rhyno is a face, so it wouldnt've made any sense to have Shelton vs. Rhyno on the PPV. Even though we know that Simon Dean is capable of great things (proven as Nova in ECW), he isn't over enough to be put in such a high profile match, and it doesn't make sense for his particular character to be going after a legitimate athlete like Shelton Benjamin. Hassan vs. Benjamin could've been done easily, but they probably figured he wasn't over enough either, and that his great mic skills would make Shelton look weak by comparison, losing some overness to their Intercontinental Champion.
I think the problem, as basically every single-brand PPV has proven, is that there isn't enough strong mid-card talent on either show to fill up a 3-hour PPV and make it worth while.

In other news, the WWE is VERY confident in Snitsky's ability to carry a presentable match. :shifty:

I don't think Rhyno being a face should have stopped them from using him. He's not a "I love everything good!" kind of face, but that face that's just a face because he's living tank. I wish they'd have him revert back to his kickass Rhyno persona that Gored Jericho through the stage backing screen on SmackDown! in 2001.
But yeah, Shelton giving an open challenge to anyone, and having Rhyno answer it would make perfect sense, IMO. I could have easily seen a Gore caught into an Exploder for a Shelton win.

You know what, that's a load of shit of what they did with Maven last night. They say he can't go in the ring, yet they got guys like Heidenreich, Snitsky, and whomever else in there in big matches. Charisma and mic skills are lacking in the WWE today and Maven excells at it. He is starting to understand how to play the crowd. Few guys in there right now know how to do this. And Maven isn't bad in the ring at all. I've never wacthed a Maven match and said it was crap.

Exactly. While I may have never really thought Maven was a good wrestler he is at least better than others who are getting big pushes. And who knows, maybe Maven would start to appear to me to be good in the ring if I got to see him in it a lot more.
Oh, but while I said I never thought he was a particularly good wrestler, I'll say this: He's got some very nice dropkicks.
You obviously didn't see Goldust vs. Maven for the Hardcore Title at WrestleMania X-8.
Of course, that was over 2 years ago, and Maven has grown by leaps and bounds since then. I agree that it's a load of shit that Kane and Shitsky (no typo) got nearly 15 minutes last night, and Maven/Shelton only got 20 seconds to really go in the ring.

If McMahon and company were smart, they would've realized that the fans just got screwed out of two matches because of injury, and told Benjamin and Maven to go out and give it their all for 15 minutes. Of course, that didn't happen, and we really only got 30 minutes of true wrestling action on a 3-hour show. Fucked up shit.

I really don't know what the big deal about Maven is, but he does have charisma.
One thing I found funny about Maven was that on Raw, he said that he "invited 63 friends over" to his house and watched some clip "16 or 18 times". If Maven continues to mention big numbers when he speaks then he could be funnier. Like instead of Maven saying "Hey Shelton, you couldent last 5 minutes in the ring with me", he could say "Hey Shelton, you couldent last 73 seconds in the ring with me".

Didn't he main event a ppv like 3 months ago?
This makes no sense
HHH must've gotten worried about Maven's heat.

That made me so mad during the ppv. Why couldnt they of let Maven have his match. Hell even if it would of been a horrible match there is no way it could of been worst than Hassan/Lawler match. And if they would of had the match longer perhaps I would of gotten more than 2 1/2 hours of that damn ppv. Damn Vince and his team have really pissed me off lately.

Yeah Shagster, they fuck him over on the PPV...but give us the match on RAW
That's the way it works these days. Used to be that TV was used to build up to PPV's. Now, PPV's are used to build up TV.
Reminds me of WCW, they'd end a main event with a fucking disqualification 70% of the time to build "drama" for the following night's Nitro. Of course, look where WCW ended up.

I really felt for Maven myself. I mean he gets built up, then they think he can't even be in an IC title match, what gives? Just like at Survivor Series, he was taken out before the main event, finally joins the main event for maybe 5 minutes and then is gone. Though I also couldn't believe the heat he got at the ppv, even for only wrestling 30 seconds.

It's sad that it has taken them this long to realize that Maven brings nothing to the table. Not only that, but they wait until they push him to realize it. :nono:
