Tidbit from this weeks Observer -

Rock and WWE have parted ways, he's contract ran out on 31/12/04 and it was not renewed. Rock has also turned down an appearence at WM21. He'll be concentrating on movies from now on.

well if that isn't bout the crappiest piece of news I've heard.

That truly sucks.

Well Foley hasn't been under contract for ages and still makes appearances, maybe they can work something out

Hopefully they can get him for WrestleMania at least this year, wrestling or otherwise. I just hope that he isn't completely done with the WWE.

Hopefully this turns out to be the WWE trying to "Abyss" us. If not, this is truly a sad day. :'(

I wish Dwayne Johnson the best in his future endeavours. :wavesad:

Somebody fill me in please. If the rock is done with WWE how come he could use The Rock when doing movies? There must be something I'm not quite getting.

He has the rights to the name.

He has the rights to the name.

Yeah, I think he negotiated for it back when he last re-signed. He'll probably still show up time to time, and he'll probably end up doing osmething at WrestleMania 21, it's just I think he's trying to shed that "WWE Superstar" tagline that follows him. To be honest I think it will be there for a while.

Hardkore Kidd J

I'm hoping he makes guest appearances still

BigDaddyCool
01-21-2005, 10:05 AM
Can you blame him? He was loyal to the company, but now he really has nothing left to prove. Plus, during his final days there, he really helped, or at least tried to help in making new stars out of Brock, Hurricane, and Christian, it ins't his fault that they either quit or WWE dropped the ball.

I wish Rocky nothing but good luck, plus, he will be back in the future.

shit, here's to the Rock

I kinda figured this was coming. I mean, the guy's got, like, 6 movies scheduled for release this year. He's a busy fella. And as long as he's enjoying it, more power to him. But fear not; a guy like the Rock will most definitely feel it necessary to make a return in the future. Anyone can tell he likes a live crowd too much to give it up forever. Let us all join Innovator in a drink to The Great One.

More info, courtesy of pwinsider.com:

"For the last few days, I have been hearing that there are issues ongoing between Vince McMahon and The Rock. According to a story making the rounds, Rock is said to be upset because Vince and WWE have yet to make an offer to renew Rock's contract. Despite the fact that he is off in Hollywood making movies, Rock still has a WWE contract. I am under the impression that one of the items covered in the contract is Rock's ability to use that name in his movie credits. As things stand now, Rock is said to be saying that his appearing at WrestleMania is not a sure thing now, at least not until, or if, this conflict gets settled. In fact, one person close to Rock told me that as of right now, he expects Rock won't be at Mania. Getting confirmed details on this story has been tough, but in the interim, I just wanted to let you know what story is making the rounds."

I see no reason why they should renew his contract.Don't get me wrong, I love Rock, but why keep him under contract if he's just off making movies?

Innovator

seriously Gouda, we need the WWE to make some room moneywise for Snitsky's raise

Rock draws, Vince should know this and have him appear at Mania. Not a lot else is going to help Mania draw.

Good....im glad that hes gone.....I never liked him unless he was a heel.

Everyone had to of known that this was coming. I was saying for the past year that he was just gonna start making movies. God knows that he will probably be in one of WWE's films that they are doing but anyways....I wish him luck on his movies....and hopefully dont pull a Hogan.

Rock isnt truely gone forever....he'll be making appearances like Foley still does. He'll probably be make a comeback by the end of this year just to wrestle a match then go away for a few then come back etc.

Well this does suck. Rock has been one of the most entertaining guys in the ring. He must have decided that the movies are more important. Just thinking back to his promo a couple years ago saying he would never leave. I guess here's to The Rock from the WWE. :wavesad:

It doesn't really mean much to me. Contract or not, we'd barely see him. He still might come back. He might get a new contract. He might make guest appearances for the heck of it.

So not a huge deal to me.

Somehow I get the feeling that this has been leaked for the sake of building up his appearance at WM21. When orders start to slump off, they'll release the news that he's changed his mind and will make an appearance, and sales will bump back up again.

I could be wrong, but it does sound aweful suspicious with rumors of his appearance at WM21 floating around.

Why exactly does the Rock need a contract? As was said, Foley doesn't have a contract, and he gets more TV time than Steven Richards.

Lara Emily
01-22-2005, 03:17 AM
For that matter why should he have anything but a per-appearance contract?

The Rock isn't "done" with WWE. I'd be willing to bet that he'll be making appearances just as often as he does now. Every once in a while he'll come out and do something at the begining of Raw like he's been doing.

Yeah, a DVD with all his matches... I started off as a joke, but I think it suits what I meant to say.

I think WWE got to be too much of a circus act for the Rock.

Oh well, now HHH is the WWE movie star.

You think NOW it's too much of a circus act?!?!

Today's wrestling is tame compared to his rise to stardom in the late 90s. Today they don't have any of that Howard Stern meets Jerry Springer crap that they used to have. In some ways you could say that the lack of ratings comes from the fact that it's a bit too boring for the average fan of the late 90s.

Can we trade Hollywood HHH for the Rock then.

Mr Producer - "Hmmm, i dunno. Is he gonna get power mad and push around all the other co-stars around?"

I'm surprised The Rock didn't make some kind of movie deal with The Rock. He'd be with the WWE, and working on films at the same time.

When they meant that "Wrestlemania is going Hollywood", I'm sure it was all Triple H's idea.

I think WWE is trying to make <s>TRO</s> Triple H their new movie star

Yeah.

Does the WWE really do small contracts, anyways? It dsoesn't make sense to pay for a full contract and yearly salaries for someone who's only doing it part time, and I can't THINK of a case where they've contracted a few appearances or the like. It would make sense for them to iron out deals in a per deum fashion.
