Which is better? And is it (whichever is better) worth getting?

X-Box is a boys toy, alot more powerful too.
GC is mroe aimed at Kids, has alot of games for the younger generation.
Depends what you wanna do, have an all out online war in Halo or solve shitty puzzles in Animal Crossing.

Xbox would by my first choice.....I got the gamecube first but that was because I didnt feel like getting an xbox at the time.
Xbox has alot of good games and some great graphics.....gamecube has a few good games but in some games the graphics arent really as good as if they were on the box.

X-BOX is the much more adult system. It has games aimed at the more mature market. It also has superior graphics, much faster loading times, and the advantage of a built in hard-drive.
Gamecube is obviously aimed at the younger market, but it's still by far my #1 console. It has some gret original games, such as Wario Ware, Smash Brothers etc.
Depends really, if you have no friends, get an XBOX and play online. If you have real friends, get a Cube and 4 controllers and a copy of Super Smash Bros Melee.
I hardly ever play my X Box. In my opinion, it's a one (well, two) game system, Halo, and I don't particularly like Halo. On the other hand, I play my GameCube a lot more. Many of the games on the GameCube are fun, plus they're original.
With the X Box, most of their games are available on other systems and/or the PC. The only game to me worth playing on the 'Box is Morrowind, and I don't even play that anymore since I got it on the PC.
Bottom line, if you want to go online, go X Box. If you want more original games (and in my opinion much more fun), go with the GameCube.
PS2 is my main system, though. Biggest library and a lot of great games.

In my opinion they both only have a few good exclusive games. I'm not much of a Halo fan, but if I had an xbox (sold my old one) I'd play it. The new Mech Assault looks pretty awesome. Then there's alwasy Ninja Gaiden.
On GCube I play(ed) Resident Evil 4, LoZ: Wind Waker, and Eternal Darkness. The new Mario 128 will probably be worth getting, as well as the new Zelda. Killer 7 should be interesting and it's GC exclusive for a while (like RE4).
 The biggest 2 issues are going to be online capability and price. Make your decision based on that.
On the other hand its easier to mod an xbox and get free games, as opposed to the GC.

xbox no contest.
as mentioned above, xbox has wesome games like Halo, Ninja gaiden, Nija Gaiden 2 coming soon, Jade Empire, iron Phoenix and much more awesome games.
While Gamecube has crap games, with the exception of residel Evil 4, metroid prime and the upcoming Zelda.
However if it's kid games you enjoy, then go with the Cube. But Xbox, is a much wiser choice. You can also burn games, whereas with the cube you can't.

I just can not get over how awkward the GameCube controller is. X-Box's first controller sucked too, until they made it smaller. So yeah, X-Box.
But PS2 owns both.

I got a gamecube and I would still say XBox is better and maybe worth getting. you got all those games out there for it. I say go for it man. Don't touch the gamecube... you'll regret it.

Super Smash Bros Melee alone is worth buying a Gamecube. It has a few stand out games for it (ie. Smash Bros, anything involving Zelda, Metroid Prime, Tales of Symphonia, Wario Ware, the Resident Evil games), and a good number of decent titles (Eternal Darkness, Soul Calibur 2 [GC version shits all over the other 2], F-Zero GX, Mario Party 6, Mario Tennis, Phantasy Star Online: Eps 1 & 2, WWE Day of Reckoning, Mario Kart: Double Dash).
There are a bunch more, but that's basically off the top of my head. Xbox has a few decent games, from what little I've played. That's all I'll say on it, since that's all I really know, besides the fact that it has a hard drive built in and the ability to rip music.

Xbox is better than GC, but PS2 is the best . They've even got Resident Evil 4 coming out for them, and if Viewtiful Joe is any indication they'll be getting extras.

I always find it amusing how the GameCube is labelled as a "kiddie system", but it seems like among kids aged 6-12, X-box is what those kids want.
Personally, I'd take a GameCube over Xbox, unless you want the online gameplay functionality.

Dude, if you have to ask; maybe you should do some self study..? You know, go to a nice site and get the dirty on the systems besides trusting some of these incredibly biased posts. IGN.com and Gamespot.com is your answer. Not this forum. But just to humor myself...
XBox is the long term decision, as 'Next Box' will be backwards compatible, as well as XBox Live. Gamecube has some games you'll never find anywhere else like Zelda and Eternal Darkness, but they fall under collector items. And Nintendo's awesome games come at the price of great waiting periods; but they are mostly worth the wait. All this talk about XBox graphics is assinine, as todays consoles are all great processors. The next hardware cycle knows this, and great games will be the target, not great looks.
Gamecube cause X-Box sucks.

Exactly why you should explore the consoles yourself, Pork.

If you have Playstation 2, then get Gamecube. If this is going to be your only console get X-Box.

Gamecube because their games are far more original, and thus more fun.

Yeah, maybe I should explore the area myself. I have a PS2 and I mostly buy the consoles for wrestling games nowadays, but I've been playing some other kinds as well (Madden 2005  )
N64 was my favorite back in the day, and I'm a fan of the Mario series and stuff. XBOX seems like it has its pros as well. Yeah, I'll have to check them out myself with some PB and J too.

Unless you're willing to mod your XBox and turn it into a multi-media system, then I'd say Gamecube. XBox is cheap TiVo and DiVX playback with some cool emulation but games-wise, I see the Gamecube panning it.
The only thing you'll miss is the awesome Ninja Gaiden. If you don't have a decent PC then you'll miss Halo 2 as well. If you do however, Half-Life 2 is definatly the FPS king
