A: spell-check

B: I totally see where you coming from I guess. It's juyst that I think you're missing all of the fun of putting your heart and soul into a team and really rooting for them. I'm sure you honestly want the jets and giants to both win, but it's not the same as rooting for only one team, and following them through the ups and downs, and putting your reputation on the line constantly by supporting them even when they're 1-15 and 2-14 in consecutive years.

I live in New Jersey about an hour 15 minutes from the Meadowlands. So it's not like I'm coming from the other side of the world or anything. I don't know any real hardcore fan who like both the Jets and Giants, I do however know a few casual fans who only tune in around playoff time and root for whoever's doing better. This as I specified earlier, is just like "winner-picking", and theres no point in being a fan if your just going to take whoever is better that year.

During the 2nd Kottite year, I had a friend who said, "I'll give you $5 if the Jets win 2 games this year", and he was so confident that he said he didn't even want anything if they didn't, he just knew the Jets were THAT bad. Of course, they finish 1-15. There's no amount of words that can be used to describe the amount of bragging that kid had over me, and still does. THAT is what you miss when you "root for" both teams, it's not the same

So, you like the Yanks and the Mets? Nice.

lmao No not at all.

MY DAD IS A GOOD EXAMPLE FOR THIS

he was born and raised in New York.

He grew up a Giants fan, but when they were out of it, he rooted the Jets. same with Mets, Yankees, etc. there is always a team that he "likes," but he will always root for a New york team.

but like you are saying if you like them all than there is no team you can hate. I pretty much like the new york teams but I hate the Redskins, Patriots, and some other teams. dunno what i am saying here

Exactly my point. What is the point in having "your team" that you stand by "through it all", if when there bad your just going to jump ship to the other team because there good. It's the way it's always been. Like how in high school when there are 2 teams in one town. Of course your going to root for the school you go to/went to because it's your school. Just like how you have a team. I've always been a Jets fan because my dad was always a Jets fan. Who knows why he became a Jet fan, but he roots for them every year with his entire heart and soul. I see no fun in liking 2 teams from the same city, because the most fun of having "a team" is arguing about who is the best with diehard fans from other teams.

When? and once they do then they can be the NY Jets, until then they're the NJ Jets, just deal with the fact that your great state doesn't have a home town football team.

Who gives a fuck where the team actually plays first of all.

Two, I love the Giants, absolutely love them. Just because they're out doesn't mean one can't root for the Jets. That is a ridiculous notion and you, Nervous Ferrett, are a fucking moron.

Zen v.W.o.

I think this should only apply to your hockey teams. There is no rivalry really among the jets-giants, mets-yankees, but the Rangers and Isles hate each other on the ice, and their fans like to beat each other up, which is funny.
But they do play in the same conference, and the same exact division too.

BCWWF
02-04-2005, 01:00 AM
What about the Knicks/Nets? Thats pretty close and same division isn't it? And now the Nets will go to Brooklyn..

Loose Cannon
02-04-2005, 08:02 AM
Zen: In NY, there is a huge rivalry between the NY teams you mentioned. That's why the Subway Series in baseball is a big thing every year.

BCWWF: They don't really have a rivalry. They might though when the Nets come to Brooklyn though.

BCWWF
02-04-2005, 12:54 PM
I guess that makes sense, seeing as the Nets were just awful until a few years ago, and now they are both awful

Just seams really stupid to call a team the NY Jets and NY Giants when they play in NJ.

Are there any other teams that do this?

The Patriots started in Boston and were the Boston Patriots and when they moved to Foxboro became the "New England Patriots" if for no other reason then marketing and to try and get money from NH, VT, RI & CT teams who have no local NFL team. I'd say the Pats get NH & RI and most of VT. CT is more of Giants country but these days I'd say it's a closer split.

Gonzo
02-06-2005, 02:53 PM
I would say the main reason that both the Jets and Giants don't play in NY was because they couldn't get a stadium that was actually in NY at the time. The Jets will now move, but I don't see the Giants moving just because of how long they've been at Giants Stadium. If the Giants were to move they would have to probably construct a new stadium as well.

BCWWF
02-06-2005, 04:47 PM
I don't know if you've heard, but actually the company who owns/runs Madison Square Garden just put down an offer for the land that the Jets planned to build a stadium on, and I believe their offer had quite a bit more money. They want to build some multi purpose venue to help attract the Olympics, but many people think it might just be a publicity stunt. Either way, the Jets stadium isn't set in stone.

Triple A
02-06-2005, 05:40 PM
Fucking MSG are a bunch of cocksuckers. They keep airing ads against the new Jets stadium. They are fucking pieces of shit. They are afraid it will take business away from MSG. COCKSUCKERS.

BCWWF
02-07-2005, 12:46 AM
I've never been there, so maybe theres some vibe it gives off inside, but really Madison Square Garden doesn't seem like a really cool venue to me. Maybe a little more for hockey, but to me it just seems like a big old building where not very good teams play poorly.

I am a Jets fan who also roots for the Giants, a Mets fan who hates the Yankees, a Knicks fan who is obviously very disgruntled, and a Rangers fan who abhors the ICE-landers (even though their venue is a block from my school).

BCWWF

Does your basketball team have its own arena, or do they play in an empty Nassau Colliseum?

jindrak
02-07-2005, 01:01 AM
As a Jets fan I am 100% against the idea of building a new stadium in Manhatten. The new stadium doesn't have to be there, especially considering the the Jets core fan base is in the Queens/Long Island area. Remember the Jets did play at Shea for many many years.

The stadium in Manhatten is a terrible idea. No tailgating will be allowed, and the traffic problems in the area will worsen (its bad as it is in Manhatten).

The Knicks play in MSG.

Nassau Colliseum used to host the Nets franchise of the ABA, but now its solely the Islanders.

And the Area football Dragons.

I'm not that dumb. I am talking about the Hofstra Pride, formally the Flying Dutchmen, where do they play?

My mistake.

The Flying Dutchmen aka Hofstra Pride (group of lions like school of fish) play at the Hofstra Arena. I dunno the capacity of the area, but for big-time games they play at the Colliseum a block down.

The b-ball team got off to a hot start, 9-0, and had their scheduled games played at the Colliseum. I know the Pride/Red Storm game got a huge attentence.

The football team plays at the Huart Stadium.

I actually haven't been inside the football stadium. I know last year the team sucked, but that was because the starting QB got hurt in the 2nd game and missed most of the season.

Even though I didn't go to the teams games, I did go to some of the Jets practices during the summer-

They have events called 'Jets Fest' where you watch the practices, get free-giveaways, autographs. Its a carnival like atmosphere. Triple A would probably like it.

I don't really like it when peoples favorite teams arent all from the same area, like your favorite teams are the Lakers, Cubs and Jets or something stupid. I dunno, I personally think that is retarded since you can just pick and choice and don't root for the team in your area to you like most fans do.

I can see "liking" other teams though, like I really like Michigan Football (Fuck OSU), UNC Basketball and the Chicago Bears but I would never tell people OH YEAH THATS MY TEAM because I'm not from Chicago or North Carolina or Michigan.

People probably don't agree with me, but I think its retarded. Especially if you grow up in an area where your favorite team sucks then you got some D-bag from Wisconsin that roots for the Spurs or something.

I don't hate the Mets or the Jets. I don't really look at them as rivals. They're in different divisions than the Yankees and Giants. I'm not saying I root for them or anything, but take this year for instance. The Yankees were eliminated in the first round of the playoffs, and the Mets made it to the NLCS. I was pulling for the Mets. I would have loved to have seen another subway series.

I could give a shit what the Jets do really. Unless they're playing us. They're like any other team.

I never understood why someone couldn't be a Jets and Giants fan?? I mean, one is AFC the other is NFC.. Seems like a Super Bowl featuring both would be a New Yorkers wet dream..

Aren't the Mets and the Yanks in different divisions?? I dunno cause I don't watch baseball..

I just don't "get it" because I grew up a huge Saints fan, but have been pulling for the Titans since they moved to Tenn (mainly because of McNair) because they are just as close as NOLA to where I grew up..

I didn't read this thread past the first post so if this has all been said, tell me to fuck off..

Yeah I naturally root for most Detroit teams since they're the local choice and whatnot. Although I've grown a liking to Pittsburgh's teams. I love the Penguins, when I first got into hockey my friend was a huge Pens fan so naturally I kinda followed them more since they did so it helped me get into the game more. I get a lot of Detroit games on cable and all but if TSN is showing a Pens game I'll watch that forealz. I kinda like the Steelers too 'cause they're more of a traditional team, run the ball and play D, none of this fancy shmancy passing ish. Plus Bettis is the man.
