Yeah ok, getting on the Download thread bandwagon, but some big news t'would seem.

According to NME, the headliners for 2005 will be Foo Fighters, Iron Maiden and Pixies.

Pretty hawt.

I had heard it might be Muse, that would be awesome.

On a related note, it does show Mean Fiddler are a little bit behind the times. Foos have played SO many times, Iron Maiden have a bigger following in the US than here and everyone who wanted to see the Pixies saw them last year, myself included.

That said, I'd still see them again....and again.

Reading is getting shite.
From that all I'd pay to see are Bloc Party, Mars Volta, Pixies,Foo Fighters and Muse.
Oh and New Order, as long as John Barnes raps :shifty:
Apart from that shiity line up, Elbow, The Kills, Babyshambles etc are shite and will always be shite. God damn indie kids, stay at V.
I'll probably go for the one day again, the Concrete Jungle Stage day when the line-up is shown.

Some more decent bands there but it's the same bands all the god damn time.

Charlatans rule. Saw them last at Isle of Wight festival last year.

I think V is looking stroger as a whole and so is Download, and I don't even like metal or nu metal or punk.

Despite that, There are some quality bands on such as Feeder, Billy Idol, Garbage, Him, Velvet revolver, Sabbath and SOAD.

I also hate how Leeds/Reading is full of kids. IOW last year was a full mix from 14 to 45 (roughly) and the atmosphere compared to Leeds is 10 times better.

I won't be going to IOW this year, Headliners are REM, Razorlight and Morrisey which is pretty weak as they should all be like, one or two slots below a decent headliner. The other bands are shit as well, except for Roxy Music and Supergrass.

If the full line up of Leeds means there are 3/4 bands I would like to see each day, I will go.

I heard not to hold out hope for Maiden though. Muse is more likely. As are the Manics and I also heard Groove Armada.

Cactus Sid
03-19-2005, 04:11 PM
Maiden are confirmed, Muse almost certainly aren't playing, Manics are unlikely, as they'd headline a day, Groove Armada is a possibility, but to be honest they're "Not A Reading band" unless they headline the dance tent or something.

Also, the V line up is shit....Scissor Sisters and Franz Ferdinand headlining a day? Fair enough, Oasis, Prodigy and Chemical Brothers, but aside from that, the depth isn't great.

This is the rumoured Reading line up

Main Stage
Friday 26 August
Pixies
Saturday 27 August
Foo Fighters
The Charlatans
Sunday 28 August
Iron Maiden
Marilyn Manson
unknown day
Elbow
NoFX
Queens of the Stone Age
Razorlight
The Killers
NME Radio 1 Stage
Saturday 27 August
Babyshambles
The Arcade Fire
unknown day
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Bloc Party
Kasabian
The Tears
unknown stage
unknown day
Hot Hot Heat
Incubus
Killing Joke
Nine Black Alps
The Blood Arm
The Departure
The Kills
The Mars Volta
The Subways

AND thats half the number of rumours there were last year.

Download looks awesome however.

I also hate the kids at Reading/Leeds, they get a load of booze they can't handle, act like twats, set fire to tents etc.....

The V-Festival on the other hand, DAMN I want tickets for that:

I would sell my sould for tickets.

Did any of you happen to catch the NME Shockwaves tour? It had the Kaiser Chiefs, Bloc Party, The Futureheads and The Killers. It was such a good gig for me at least (I saw them in Birmingham) maybe the best overall that I've been to. All four bands were top notch with Bloc Party being probably the weakest and the Kaiser Chiefs probably being the best.

I just mention cos a lot of you guys seem to be into those bands....

I dunno, I personally don't think its as good as Reading.

Scissor Sisters are terrible live (saw them at V last year), Franz aren't fantastic, Embrace are dull, I've seen The Zutons twice, I hate Jet, Seen The Hives, don't like Athlete, The Music or Doves. Wouldn't pay £100 to see Kaiser Chiefs and The Bravery.

That said, V did get Oasis and Robert Plant

T IS THE BEST

I have to agree with cactus in that I'm not a big fan of Scissor Sistors (at all) and I've seen Franz twice (though they were good both times) Embrace are dull seen the Zutons twice (though again excellent) seen the Hives etc etc.

Weakest V line up I've seen for three or four years - even with Oasis which was quite a coup.

T always does have the best lineup, as its usually a mix of V and Reading with a few other bands thrown in

I'm willing to bet Bad Religion and The Alkaline Trio will headline the concrete jungle this year

Ska-Wars

Bad Religion are supposed to be doing festival dates in August so it could well happen. Apparently there's a good chance Me First And The Gimme Gimmes will play too.

Prety good. Charlatans better play after Razorlight, and KOL but I suppose its how big a band is at the current time at Leeds.

BRMC were support to Blur on the Main Stage a few years ago, now they job to Kasabian.

NOFX, Incubus... I can miss that.

Iggy!! ROCK AND ROLL BABY!!!!!!

I could work this for a weekend. Friday I chill at the Main Stage smoking some drugs Elbow and the Coral are cool. The Killers are alright and QOTSA are possibly my favourite current band. The a large 'Fuck Off' to the pixies because they are dull and uninspiring and off to jig with Kasabian.

Saturday I will just, well get stoned mostly. Wander about and just enjoy the vibe for the early day, then to The Main Stage for The Charlies and all the rest.

Sunday, Doesn't seem to be many bands I want to see that day. Wouldn't miss Iggy.
Hopefully the NME stage will get The Zutons or the Kaisers as well that day and we could watch that, but NOFX and Incubus do nothing for me. As for the last 2, Manson and Maiden would be good but Bloc Party and Futureheads are also. I think watch the first half of Manson, then to the NME stage, watch the last half of the FH's and the first.....most of BP and then catch the end of Maiden, because I suppose everyone should see them once in their lives.

So thats my weekend.

Danny Electric
03-23-2005, 08:06 PM
Two of my fav bands ever play the last day in Marilyn Manson and Incubus, plus I really want to see Bloc Party. Not sure whether thats worth 60 pound though. Festivals are becoming more and more of a rip-off.
If I do go to a festival it will be Download.

This batch has sold out yes, they dont release all the tickets in one batch.

Cactus Sid
03-26-2005, 06:23 AM
Apparently it is completely sold out, they've already released the tickets in 3 batches. Last year after the festival, earlier this year, and the general sale that started Monday.

They'll probably be a small batch of 1000 - 2000 released on seetickets in May or June

Ska-Wars
03-26-2005, 06:32 AM
Ebay is swarming with bastards trying to sell tickets for about £200 a go, it really pisses me off. As it goes it's probably best they sold out, £135 is a hell of a lot for me. I'll probably end up just buying a day ticket for whichever day has the most bands I want see.

Cactus Sid
