In regards to 'Evil Dead 4 Raimi says, "There will be an Evil Dead 4, and there will ALSO be an Evil Dead Remake. The remake will be produced by Ghost House pictures, (his company with Tapert) and it will star a new cast and a completely new director. The point of Ghost House is that we want to bring new directors (like Takashi Shimizu of "the Grudge" to Hollywood and give them a chnace to make a good horror film."

On WHAT inspired him to allow the remake, Raimi said, "I love the original Dawn of the Dead, and I also really enjoyed the new Dawn of the Dead. I mean, they are both really great horror films. I want to let somebody with a fresh vision bring The Evil Dead to a new generation and a new audience with a different vision..."

Contrary to what Raimi told Mr. D, the remake will be Evil Dead 1 and 2 together, but remade with a higher budget and a new cast and crew.

However, Raimi will be directing and producing Evil Dead 4, which will star Bruce Campbell as ASH and will also have many of the actors from the previous Evil Dead movies. Raimi says that "This is the project I really want to make. The remake can belong to someone else, but part 4 will be a continuation of the original"

Ted and Sam Raimi have begun writing Part 4, and will be developing it for production later this year. Bruce Campbell and Tapert will both be involved...

EVIL DEAD 4?

There seems to be a lot of online buzz today that Sam Raimi is indeed taking charge of a fourth entry in the Evil Dead series!

According to Bloody Disgusting, Raimi says this about the Deadite-fighting franchise: "This is the project I really want to make. The remake can belong to someone else, but part 4 will be a continuation of the original." They also claim he’s already writing the sequel for production later this year, and that The Chin himself, Bruce Campbell, will naturally be returning to the lead role of boomstick-wielding buffoon Ashley J. Williams. Yes! Exciting news!

But wait… there are a whole bunch of interviews with Raimi this week as he promotes Boogeyman, produced by his Ghost House Pictures, and not all of them have such concrete confirmation of Evil Dead IV. He tells IGN: "Well, I would want to direct Evil Dead 4 if we get around to making Evil Dead 4, that's what I wouldn't want somebody else to do, because I really want to do it.”

Certainly not hard evidence. And at Coming Soon, it sounds even less definite: “I'd like to make a part four. There's this very small audience for Evil Dead IV, and if we ever make a movie called Evil Dead IV, which I'd like to make with Rob at some point and starring Bruce Campbell, I'm not saying there's a million people, but there's 100,000 people that will know exactly what it is and that's about as big as the crowd is, honestly. It's not a giant crowd. They're a great crowd.”

There's a whole lotta "if" there. So either Sam’s holding his cards close to his chest or showing his hand depending on who he’s talking to, or it’s like whenever James Cameron or Ridley Scott mentions possibly doing another Alien movie – spitting gasoline on the flames just to keep the fans buzzing.

The Evil Dead remake (actually a remake of Evil Dead 1 & 2) is indeed going forward, but it’s still early in the development stage. Raimi says that the new version will not have a character named Ash because that belongs to Bruce, and that a director has yet to be selected (which means casting rumors are basically bullshit at this point), although AICN claims that Korean helmer Park Chan-Wook (Oldboy) is on Raimi’s short list.

Raimi's hard at work on Spider-Man 3, due in theaters Summer 2007, and it remains to be seen if and when we'll actually get another Ash adventure.

Uhhhmmmm, YUS!!1!

Im not one of those cynical guys that goes on IMDB claiming that Sam Raimi has sold out and that Evil Dead Remake is going to suck just because I believe that all remakes suck.

So

When I first read this news a while back I was a litte scared. Remakes havnt been that grade with the exception of one or two of them. Evil Dead I hope they dont screw up.

Now with Evil Dead 4 I cant wait. Bruce Campbell is onboard and writing is already underway. I hope they sorta have it like Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness because Ash is one funny SOB.
