I know a little while ago there was a thread about who was more popular in their time; Hogan or Austin. My question is, which of the two had the most shocking heel turn, and for what reason(s) was it more shocking than the other. If you can think of any other shock heel turns that come close feel free to mention them

I was not a fan during Hogan's heel turn, but was a semi-mark when Austin heel-turned at WrestleMania X-Seven. I knew Austin would turn, but the way it happened was surreal, but not shocking.

Hogan turned after being a face his entire run on the top of the WWF so I guess that was more shocking.

(Or those who hate to read):

Hogan's Turn = Shocking ( I Guess)
Austin's Turn = Surreal and a true markout moment for me

Triple H's heel turn/joining the Corporation game as a shock to me even though I read a few weeks before that he re-signed as a heel.

I was a mark when the Rock won his first World Title...so I was shocked when Shane McMahon fucked over SCSA and turned heel.

Hogan's heel turn would've been a shock, but I began to watch wrestling a year later.

I didn't start watching wrestling til 1999, but I have read about Hogan's heel turn and it seems the most shocking one. People in the audience crying, throwing things at the newly formed nWo. He changed everything he was. He was the icon, the role model, telling kids to take vitamins and say prayers, then all of a sudden he's alligning himself with these two outsiders.

The way Austin did it wasn't that bad. He used a chair in a no-holds-barred match. He wanted to be WWF champion and he did it. When the time was right, he ditched Vince and stabbed him in the back by taking the WWF belt to WCW. It was classic Austin. Don't Trust Anybody.

So yeah, Hogans was the better heel turn because of the impact to the wrestling, both immediate and long-term.

Hogan's heel turn did good business and people hated Hogan.

With Austin, the fans still cheered him as a heel and it didn't work at all.

Should of replaced Austin with "Rock" in the discussion. Now that is how you set up a heel turn.

SCSA will never be "heel"...

Yea i guess i agree there. The initial heel turn was shocking, and the first few months played out well with the aliance with Triple H and Vince. As soon as H tore his quad, Austin went straight to the comedy heel stuff with Angle. Sure that was funny, but the couldve played off the 'Paranoid Rattlesnake' angle so much better if they did it seriously and with more aggression...................................................................................... wait, thats it. Triple H is the reason Austin never worked as a heel. Just another reason to hate a very hated individual

Bret Hart

I was such a Bret Hart fan, and I was so upset how he turned against America. Also I was mad how he did the figure-4 around the ring post to HBK the night he went heel. I hated Bret when he turned heel.

Also note I was a mark at that time.

Rock's heel turn at Survivor Series 98 is easily the greatest heel turn in WWF/E history.

These are all shocks.
Biggest shock ever, Tatanka joining Money Inc. and stuffing the money down Luger's throat.
Why Tatanka, why?

Oh yeah, I remember that one. Throughout the angle, it was Tatanka accusing Luger of "selling out" to Dibiase's Corporation stable.

The most shocking heel turn was The Hurricane.

.... Wait, what? They didn't do it? Well then....

I'll have to say Hogan was more shocking for numerous reasons. For one, I was one of the believers that Hogan was more popular and well known in his time than Austin. As someone said, he was on top for years as the "perfect" role model, American, telling you to pray and take your vitamins. Then bam. He goes heel.

I'd say the garbage that the fans through at him was proof enough. I mean... I'd never seen fans through garbage before.

LOL.

I was pissed off, but also happy.
I was a lex luger fan, so seeing him join with Debiasse would have been awful! And i was so sure he would, U SAW HIM WALK INTO DEBIASSE'S FREAKIN' LOCKER ROOM!

When he didn't turn, i was happy. but i also liked tatanka, so i was sorta turned.
How Danny, read Tatanka's website. he talks about it in his bio. It really weird cos he doesn't break kayfabe :D

Ones that stick out in my mind that haven't been mentioned would be:

Vince, the higher power: It was almost so predictable you thought surely they woudn't do it and they did.

Crush turning on Randy Savage: I don't know why this one sticks out in my mind, but I remeber really liking Crush back in the day

Steph turning on Vince: I didn't think she had the charisma to pull it off, but she did a pretty good job generally speaking

Owen on Bret: Nuff said

I remember the Crush one. I liked him too, I remember he changed the colour of his clothes from purple and green I think to something else.
Oh yeah, wasn't it said that he shot Savage or something, or am I imagining things.

Theres two different heel turns involving one person which I was fairly shocked at, Kurt Angle. After his big summer and feuding with Austin, he goes and joins the alliance in 2001. And his face turn at Survivor Series was a complete flop.

Then his 2nd one after Armageddon 2002. He had only been a face for a month, maybe even a tweener. He got help from Brock to win the title at Armageddon, then on SmackDown he announces that he got Paul Heyman as manager/turns heel. WTF? I was surprised there.

Hogan had the best heel turn but IMO he was far from the best heel

The Rock's 1st WWE championship win led to the greatest heel run in WWE history. Rock is the greatest heel EVER

with Azriel mentioning Ahmed Johnsons heel turn, it made me think about him. I just realised that that is my last strong memory of him. Anyone remember what happend to him after? or even why he left WWF and where he is now?

Ahmed Johnson was horrendously injury prone, and he always got weird injuries that made you go :wtf: , htf did he do that.

I think after joining the nation, he tore ligaments in his hand when a nail was poking out of the ring apron and missed a few months, and then went to WCW wrestling as Big T.

By that stage, he had become really fuking fat awell

I also forgot the ECW thing during the Invasion. I was pretty into the angle at the time, and i didnt se it coming. I just remember the WWF guys getting a beat down by WCW, and all of a sudden here come more WWF guys. Not until they all turned around to face WWF did i make the link that they were all ex-ECW guys. so that was a shock. It was pretty awesome to find out Heyman was behind it as well
