Has Vince or the WWE been suggesting anything about making Smackdown! actually a legit show? I know I read a while ago that Vince wants to re-new his contract with Spike TV, and that's why he's making Raw look superior compared to Smackdown!...so Spike sees that Raw is a great sports entertainment show and keeps it as part of its lineup.

Actaully, Vince wants to get RAW off of Spike. There has already been interest form USA, but Spike wants to keep RAW. There will be a bidding war, and Vince will make a shit load of money.

I dont think the RAW contract being up has had anything to do with the foucs on RAW, I think its just that HHH is on that show, and he's the booker, so he makes his show look superior. Its simple really.

Even though SD doesn't have the depth of RAW, I still find it more entertaining. I may be the only person who thinks like that, but I find RAW boring, because I feel like Ive seen the exact same episode oevr and over...and over and over again.

PEDIGGREE!! PEDIGREE! PEDIGREE!!!!!! DAMMIT!

Probably not.

I mean, they actually dumbed down SD to make Raw look better...Why would they want to opt to make SD better?

You're not the only one who feels this way.

I don't know how many do, but there's very little for me on Raw.

1. Smackdown needs to go live

2. Smackdown needs more stars: Jericho or HBK would fit in perfectly

1. No it doesn't. Smackdown's problems are not created by the taped format.

2. Howabout we work on building up new stars instead of donating established ones? OR maybe put some of the hotter folks on top instead of "vanilla heel heat" JBL?

Well the WWE should make good new stars. Cena's good, JBL's, good, AND..... they have noboddy.

JBL's not all that good. :)

And I'm the guy who spent so much of his early push defending his mic skills. That tell you something?

Still, they can push new talent. or even old talent who are over. I know a lot of people don't see Van Dam as a megastar, but he's over with the fans, and is certainly a start. Eddie Guerrero is nobody? Sure that's news.

Then why mention JBL?

Seems kind of stupid to bring up someone who HAS been pushed before, and say you're only talking about new stars.

Naw. Not quite. More like bringing him back with the same moveset, but giving him a hat and calling him SIR ULTIMATE WARRIOR.

I know wrestling fans have a reputation for being slow, but it seems all it takes to confuse people is an accessory or two. Taker gets a hat and druids, suddenly he's oldschool despite bocing like the ABA. JBL ghets a hat and a limo, suddenly he's no longer Bradshaw.

The answer? Let's start giving people more hats.

I hope I'm not the only one who hopes for a Heidenreich/JBL main event someday.

I think the big problem with SmackDown! is that it isn't compelling enough. I know that's easy to say, but think about it.

I really don't care about the Barbed Wire Cage Match at No Way Out, which is not good. It also seems that the same angles have been running on SmackDown! for months. It takes three weeks to advance a plotline like RAW does.

RAW isn't much better, but if you do skip RAW, you do make sure you get to see recap videos or something, just so you know what did go on. RAW isn't "can't miss" compelling, but it is "should watch" compelling.

I personally think what would help SmackDown! isn't a backstage issue, but an on-stage one:

I think SD! should get a new General Manager.

Simply enough idea, but I think it could work. But how would a new General Manager work? I really think they should be a new character. No McMahons, no former owners of promotions, just a new addition to the WWE team, that looks big enough to be a wrestler, but is 100% a non-wrestling character. I don't know why, but someone of Erik Watts' build might be good for this role.

OK, maybe this won't "save" SmackDown!, but if you see all these recpas of the new General Manager, and have no clue who he is, and see he's causin an uproar on SmackDown!, people might flick over to see him. These are just the people who watch RAW, but not SD! on a regular basis.

But that won't save SD!. What I think might help though is if the General Manager is a badass, though. Not so much in a Stone Cold way, but in a "touch me, you're fired" way. I'll tell you what I mean:

Next week on SmackDown!, Vince McMahon appars on the titantron and says Teddy Long has been released form his duties on SD!. A new General Manager has been found. Maybe have him on one month's probation or something. Anyway, out comes the new General Manager out to the SmackDown! music (I'd have him keep it too, since it would suit the character). He then calls out what the 18-34 demographic wants to see, divas!

Michelle McCool, Lauren, Rochelle, Joy Giovanni & Amy Weber come out for a schelduled "contest". The General Manager then turns says this is a WRESTLING show. Not a house for SmackDown! Sluts. He then publicly fires them, and says if they want they can go be RAW Whores. He takes no excuses.

This brings out John Cena. Cena then cuts a rap on the new General Manager. The GM just laughs and says he expected Cena to be out here. The General Manager then strips Cena of the US Title, and renames Carlito the new Champion. In fact he rewrites history and claims that Cena's third reign with the Championship is void because Teddy Long forced Carlito to compete with a broken arm. The decision has now be reversed.

The GM then cuts a promo about how Cena has to wake up and realise that this is a wrestling show. If this is Cena's first pick of work, he needs o start taking pride in it, and start doing what's right for it. Cena has already started to build-up to a WrestleMania title shot, but the new GM can make that go away. He says that if Cena doesn't kiss his feet, he will fire Cena, and he will get to chose between working on the over-crowded SD!, or in some broken down studio recording music.

Cena then shockingly kisses the feet of the new boss, so he can keep his job on SD!. This might make Cena sound like a pussy, but I think it would come off like a demanding General Manager more than anything.

I can see him taking Big Show out of the No way Out main event when he touches the GM, and I can see him giving his place to the winner of the tournament finals at No Way Out. That means triple duty for Cena, and I can easily see him getting screwed out of the title and getting a rematch at WrestleMania.

But what I think would be best about this is it gives SD! a figure that embodies it. Eric Bischoff has become RAW. We may not realise this, but if they changed the RAW opening video to being mostly shots of Bischoff, it would just fit. I think they should do that with the new General Manager (if they take Teddy Long out of the role, and I don't mind if they don't because he's an entertaining character). I can just see the General Manager appearing on every second shot of the new SD! opening video.

I just get goosebumps about picturing the new General Manager staring down Bischoff.

It might not sound like much now, but I think they had a new character re-focus SD! (as a new GM should), people would begin to become compelled by it, and that is SD!'s biggest obstacle at the moment, IMO.

I actually thought Heyman was the BEST Smackdown! manager out of the 4 GMs...and actually gave Smackdown! a face compared to the other shit on the show. Angle comes in as a close second b/c he was hilarious, however, he's a wrestler and not a GM. Steph was just hot, but very weak as a manager. Long is entertaining at times, but too much of a good guy/pushover.

Although i don't think changin the general manager will solve any problems I could see the role of an ass kickin GM filled brilliantly by Jesse Ventura.

But he wouldn't do it so.....

Some long posts here... I'll just put it simply.

When the WWE (WWF) was hot in the late 90s, it was because they had solid multiple levels of storylines going at the same time, each with exciting angles and twists and turns. You had two main event stories, three or four mid card angles, some women's feud for TnA, and a comedy feud. Each of them was well though out, elaborated upon, and perfectly timed.

You just gotta have effort and attention to everything, instead of just going through the emotions. The sad thing is that I find the C-Feds we have going on more entertaining than SmackDOWN! right now, and not just because they're fantastical. The flow of storylines and the climax and transitions of new and old feuds are very well thought out. The WWE needs to get back to that, even if they have to be a little formulamatic.

What Would Kevin Do?

Long needs to be taken away as GM. He'd be a good manager, but he schtick gets old real quick. Looking at the current roster though, there's only one person I can see working real well as a GM (besides Heyman), and that's Tazz.

Why Tazz? A. he's not biased. He's not a face or heel announcer, and therefore, could easily be a GM who gets along with everybody. This may sound anti-climatic, but we don't need to keep changing GMs just to have someone feud with them. Smackdown needs a unbiased GB.

Second, Tazz can work a mic. Third, he's already an announcer, and it'd be interesting to have a GM announce (ala Bishoff in WCW, or Vince in the early days) Finally, Tazz could be a level headed and cool GM, without being a pushover. If someone pissed them off, he could choke them out.. I dunno.. it could work.
