Anybody else looking forward to this release as much as I am?

I've been listening to The Widow, their first single, and if that song is any indication, the album is going to be just as good if not better than their last album.

I fell in love with DeLoused... as soon as it came out a couple years ago, and I don't anticipate Frances The Mute being any different.

Your thoughts?

Yeah, I'm looking forward to this album heeeeeeeeeeaps, can't wait. At the same time, I'm a bit apprehensive about the fact it's only 5 tracks of music clocking in at 77 minutes. :$ Seems a bit unnecessary.

That's The Mars Volta for you.
I am also looking foward to this album.

I have had it for a while, my friend got it off the net for me. It is pretty amazing.

The shortest track is The Widow, at 5:57.

Apparently the rest of them are about 10 minutes long or so.

I think the long songs will be great, and I don't think it'll just be useless noise. I can't wait for this cd, something new to finally groove out to

I hear they pushed the release date to March 1. I will be purchasing this one that day

If it's half as good as De-Loused in the Comatorium it will be worth buying.

I'll be grabbing it on Monday, and judging by the reviews its been getting, it should be great. I've avoided downloading anything besides The Widow though...

I can't decide on a best track, they're all incredible.

It's got somewhat of a different feel to it than De-Loused (more ambiance, more laid back, more progressive, not to say they don't go crazy in a lot of the album), which is good, don't want to see The Volta fall into a formula or anything. I can't wait to buy it. Early pick for album of the year.

I don't think the Mars Volta are any good, and would probably sound better if they re-emerged from out of their own arseholes.

I have De-Loused etc. and have tried my best to enjoy it, but it is just a lot of terrible noise.

The Destroyer

One man's "terrible noise" is another's musicial genius. :p

Not that I think they're geniuses or anything, not really a word to be thrown around lightly.

I think a lot of it is noodling and self-indulgence.

When I hear they tend to draw out one song for an entire concert, or something stupid like that, then I KNOW it is noodling and self-indulgence. Does anyone really want to hear random, incoherent notes being played for an extended period of time?

Mars Volta are toss.

They have never played "one song for an entire concert" :wtf:

I actually saw them live when the openend for " A Perfect Circle" They were decent but nothing special. Infact at one point i was kind of scrathing my head cause i want really sure of what to make of them. There new single is pretty good. But there live performance was somewhat weird. The lead singer was like flopping around and stuff. I honestly thought he had a mirror and atleast 7 lines of coke on the stage while he was performing. I wont buy the album. Unless i hear more then one decent song.

The APC tour was apparently a bad time to see them, since they've recently admitted they were using that tour to fuck around with a lot of ideas for the new album, something that might have made their performance seem... well, weird. :p

They have never played "one song for an entire concert" :wtf:
You forgot to quote the part where I said "or something stupid like that" which kind of puts that part into context: i.e. I wasn't being entirely sincere.

I'm pretty sure they have been known to basically just play one song and then noodle around with it for about 45 minutes in a live set.

The Destroyer

I think they tend to "noodle around" in general and slip in some actual songs, but I've never heard of them doing just one. Which isn't to say they never have, of course.

My friend saw them and said they played 3 songs in like an hour and a half long set

I think they played more then one song when i saw them. It just didnt seem like it cause they never actually stopped playing. Literaly it felt as if it was a never ending song, but just a few songs wrapped together.

There live performance would have been awesome to do shrooms too.

Picked up the disc today.

It's awesome. I haven't had a chance to soak it all in yet, but so far there hasn't been a bad song. It's quite a beautiful cd.

Yeah I got it on Monday. It IS a great CD, with some awesome songs on there... when they actually decide to play. In my opinion there is entirely too much atmospheric-inducing noise, from four minutes of birds chirping to weird echo sounds and door slams. Bitches, I have a fucking door. If I wanted to hear it slamming I would go and stand out the front of my goddamned house and slam it repeatedly. I would NOT pay 25 bucks for 6 minutes of actual music on a 77 minute CD.

Okay, so that's a slight exaggeration, but for example... the end of The Widow... pointless. It just shits me and makes me want to skip through, when I shouldn't because amidst the ambience shit there is some fantastic music in there.

As much as I REALLY like the songs on this one, Deloused has my vote of superiority due to the fact it was more music for my money. :-\

Just bought it today, probably gonna be the album of the year.

The ambience is good, come on, what are you talking about? Can't wait to smoke a blunt and listen to this.

Nah you misunderstood me. The ambience on, say, DeLoused was good. Bit of nothingness here, a random noise there, it's all good and chilly.

However... when I have to sit through four and a half minutes of fucking forest noises just to hear some random guitar notes... that shits me a little bit. :$

Gonna see them live tonight. Can't wait.

Allegedly, they're playing a 7 song set that clocks in at about 2 hours. The reviews I've been reading are saying the shows have been incredible.

Can't wait :D

They're playing here again soon, not sure if I'm gonna go or not. I'd like to, but my normal concert buddy didnt really like them when we saw them with APC.

When I saw them at Leeds, they did 3 or 4 songs in an hour, but never stopped playing. Poor drummer.

So they played for about 2 hours, and got about 8 or 9 songs in. Half the songs they played were from Delooused and the other half were from Frances the Mute. Some parts dragged on a bit but overall the show was as good as I expected.

They didn't have an opening band which meant the show was over early but it was worth it.

Funniest part of the night, when the singer threw the mic stand in the air, it smacked his face, not hard. The entire crowd was like, "OHHHH... HAHAHAHA" Good stuff.
