Very Big Problem...

My friends computer is acting up...after being turned on for like 5 minutes it trys to open a webpage and since it is not connected(It's on dial-up) gets the usual webpage can not be displayed...the real problem is that it does it every 5 seconds locking it up. Anybody ever have this problem...It is Win. 98,using AVG Free Antivirus(Unable to update due to the prob),Ad-Aware-both oif which say no prob. and can not get an anti-spyware toi run...says it has a virus or harddrive sector screwed up...scan disk says no prob.Thanx in advace for any help

well for the first part try to go to IE, Tools -- Options

then connections and choose "never dial a connection" and click okay.

as for the second part of the problem, spyware programs not running the only thing i can say is run a virus scan, or format the harddrive, maybe defragging it would help but i doubt it.

Thanks..I am going to have to reformat because it won't even boot-up now.
