Is it anything like 4? Cause I thought that is wasn't all that great.

A Tekken Tag 2 would be cool.

Plays more like Tag and 3 to be honest.

Best Tekken ever.

The gameplay goes back to the old school (T3) and you'll have about a half hour of control shock before your fingers except the limited 8 Way Run. The free roaming is still there, but you'll rarely use it. The fighting is fast and intense, and the visuals kick Part 4's ass like Jin Kazama in Devil Mode (who'll you'll face off with in the game). There's actually a better presentation on the story as well. The character list is like a reunion tour of old favorites; way better than the last game. It's not Tekken Tag packed, but character distinction is far improved as a result. For instance, Anna Williams move list was loosely based on Nina's before, but now there's a bigger difference between the two in style and technique. Grapplers King and Murdock have expanded move list that'll make grab happy players very happy. King has on particular string, that will eat 80% of your bar easily. But I'll never call him cheap, most characters have something similarly exploitable; but somehow it remains fun. The new guys are cool, especially Raven; who's off the chain move list is a mix of Yoshi'd craziness and Bryan's hard hits. The character editing feature is very limited, with an assinine money system that makes you pay for simply getting a new color on your favorite fighter (WTF?). The Tekken Force Mode is now a Jin Kazama exclusive game with altered controls. I've yet to finish it or play for more than 10 minutes but I can tell you it's about as good as the ones before. Take that as you will. Overall great game!

BTW, the end boss is interesting storywise, but an absurd notion even for a videogame. Some of the ending FMV's are really cool.

King is unbalanced as usual also. Bryan is also to an extent.

And yes, best Tekken ever.

Yea, awesome game. I'm having a great time with it, but I'm VERY disappointed with the alteration of Baek's moves. He's a little slower and missing some of his key moves for combos. He used to be one of my best characters and now he's almost unusable to me. Oh well, I still have Lei :D

The other complaint is how difficult it is to sidestep. The game would greatly benefit from a Soul Calibur style double tap side step. I made it all the way to the boss with Steve Fox (who I kinda suck with) but ended up not being able to beat him because every time I tried to side step his fireball I'd end up ducking and getting hit.

Having mentioned those complaints I have to agree that it's the best Tekken ever. The visuals are the best I've seen in any fighting game, the ending videos are very good, and the character list is impressive (even though some characters have changed).

9/10

I spent all yesterday playing it, and will probably do so again today with my friends. Best Tekken ever. Barnone. The new characters are great. They're really fun to play as. Also Anna Williams is fantastic.

Yay, I found Baek's "missing" move that I was bitching about. He still has it, it's just done a bit differently :)

I've got PS2, but i honestly wish this game had gone the route of Soul Caliber and came to XBOX. It would be nice to get a tourney going online with you all on xbox live. Sony just isn't cutting on the broadband side of things.

lol, what move were you looking for?

Just the simple X, X, X combo thingy. I use either to start, or in the middle of combos. It's still there, it's just that you can't hold forward while doing it now. It's very hard to break my hands of the habit of holding forward to be sure I'm attacking agressively during a combo. Now if you hold forward and press X, X, X he does a retarded high to low kick thing that is completely useless for anything other than ending a combo.

Played Tekken 5 for four hours. Damn, me and my guys were killing each other. Again, I love Devil Jin, much better than Karate Kid Jin. Asuka is my new Queen of Iron Fist. She's better than I remember Jun being, and has great strings. Bruce is beastly in the rights hands (my buddy Richard). I'm trying to get good with Yoshi, he has some entertaining stuff this time.

Tekken is frame dependant. Lag would screw with combos. So its better that its not online really. :)

It's not that big an improvement, all they've really added is better graphics and balanced it slightly.

People are talking about it like it's the 2nd coming. :|

Series topped out at Tekken 3, IMO.

If tekken 4 didn't suck so hard you might not be saying that. The fact is, not only does this game return the "feel" of tekken 3, it improves on it to the point where this is miles ahead of any of the previous games.

Also I just learned kings grapple combos. Short story, my friends banned me from using him.

Thing is: I didn't hate Tekken 4, yeah it was a change, but it was still playable, but it wasn't really Tekken.

I've forgotten where I was going with this.

I agree that tekken 4 wasn't a bad game. But as a tekken game it was awful. It felt like a completly different game.

It felt like a mix between Soul Calibur and Tekken 3.
Only not executed as well as it should've been.

However I still feel like Tekken 5 isn't that big an improvement.

Plus the boss is a wanktard.

Yes he is easily one of the cheapest bosses ever. The fireballs aren't too hard to avoid after a while but that whole stun thing he does is a bitch.

Bah i hope he's not the same type as DOA 3 boss.
The boss of that game ruined the whole experience. I would just quit at the guy before him.

Anyway finally picked this up, had been in from my reserve since last week. I got the arcade stick version with the collector dvd. The arcade stick is bad ass. Especially if you were a beast at the arcades moreso than PS2 controls.

I still haven't opened the DVD , so more on that later.
I usually pick 1 guy and learn him all the way before moving on to a different character with these types of games. This game is going to be Feng Wei . .since Heihachi isn't in . (at least for now).

my bad on the DVD. its' not really a DVD, just a fancy holding case if you had all the version of Tekken up to that point. I have most :( I think i'm missing 1 now cause it was stolen and I never had Tag because i didn't have a PS2 until about a month ago.
