If you go to glassjaw.com, the banner is RIP GlassJaw.

Then it has a picture of Tupac, Dimebag Darrell, ODB and Notorious BIG, with an animation saying "It wasn't their time... Oh yeah, the shows are cancelled, sorry."

The only link it has is to the merch site, but that's where the website ends.

Yeah I've known about this for a while now and it sucks big time. One more album would have been nice.

Don't forget though, they like to fuck with people. It could all just be a joke - it wouldn't be the first time they've done it.

I don't know, Darryl is so insane now that he can't even tour.

I heard he's getting surgery that will somehow decrease the chances of another flare up with his Crohn's

From Manny of GlassJaw (from the glassjaw message board)
--------

It seems like I've typed it out so many times to friends and on boards, that I can't even remember if I explained it on here.

I'm not really sure what details you want, though. There really wasn't that much to tell.

Got a call from Justin in October. He said that he wanted to do glassjaw again. They hadn't played in over a year, and they all were doing other things in the meantime. He didn't want glassjaw to end the way it did, and was not happy about what the band represented anymore. In the sense that, when I was playing with them, and even before me, the band played, and didn't think about press, and publishing, and guarantees, and whether or not it was gonna pay the rent. We played to PLAY. And when you do it full time, like they were doing it, you become completely dependent on it. Playing music doesn't pay the bills. It's what foundations you make while you have your "foot in the door", so to speak. (ie: becoming a record producer, or starting a merch company, or record label.)

So this was about having fun with it again. Not everyone was happy. And the time off to do other things helped people to realize that glassjaw didn't have to be everything to them. Justin explained to me that he wanted to do it the way he always wanted to do it. To write music, and not have to worry about whether or not the band could play it. And it's not a question of talent, because everyone that has played in that band has talent. It was a matter of style. Justin style is definitely unconventional. Some people don't like to play his style. Some have said "You know, his stuff is fun to listen to, but it's not always fun to play."

For him, that meant a lineup change. That's why he called me up. I've remained friends with everyone in the band, so it wasn't weird for him to call me. He reminded me how he didn't want me to leave before, and with this "new start", he wanted me back. You see, Justin doesn't do that. When you quit on him, that's it. He doesn't want you back, so I knew this was serious for him. Not to mention that I missed playing with them. He told me that it was going to be a 4 piece. Nothing personal against Todd. And he said that if there was going to be another guitar, that it would be Todd, there was no question about that. He felt that the writing style with 2 guitars was maybe too much. I asked him how we were going to pull the previous songs off with one guitar. His reponse was "Stillsuit.", so I understood what he was going for, and what he asked of me.

He threw out a couple of drummers names, and they were good drummers, but I didn't want this to feel like a science experiment. I wanted it to still be glassjaw, and there was someone I wanted to call who had already played in the band. I mentioned Durijah. Regardless of what happened all those years ago, and what Ross thought about him, I always thought he was a sick drummer, and that was 6 YEARS AGO. Not only did Ross make him think about being a more solid drummer, but he's just gotten better over the years. Justin admitted to thinking about him, too. I gave him Durijah's number, and there you have it. Plus, watching Justin and Durijah in practice is something. It's like watching two aliens communicate in another language. It makes no sense to anyone in the world except them. When Justin was describing what kind of drummer he wanted, he didn't even realize that he was describing Durijah.

The 2 shows booked were booked to see how it would work. Not as much crowd reaction, as much as, can we still work well, and sound great together. Unfortunately, Daryl had gotten sick, had surgery, and was healing. His doctor told him that he could do those shows, but it would be too soon, and he would just get sick again. We cancelled the shows, and then yelled at him for going overseas right after Christmas with HA. Because of it, he got sick again. Now we're just waiting for everyone to be available. Durijah might be done with a tour, and I don't know how long before Daryl is 100%, so things might be happening soon.

If you wanted details as far as the music? Also, not much to tell. There would have been some new stuff, yes. There would have been music from both records. There would have been some OLD stuff. With Durijah and myself, there's the opportunity to do songs from before EYEWTKAS because we've played them before.

I was really looking forward to those shows, and we were all bummed that we couldn't do them, but maybe it's better for all of us this way. We had only practiced for a week for those shows, and now we can really get the shit down. It just means a better show next time.

I hope that answered some questions for you. (It better, 'cause my fingers kinda hurt now.) But if you have any more questions, I will try to answer them to my best ability.

-manny.

I heard he's getting surgery that will somehow decrease the chances of another flare up with his Crohn'sFrom what I hear he had a couple of feet of intestine removed. A friend of mine who plays in a band that was gonna open for Head Automatica on their cancelled tour has talked to Darryl a few times, and talks to Vinny from The Movielife/I Am The Avalanche every now and then and this is the story he hears.
