What do you all think about this? I know what Hassan says is true...but it's just not cool how they portray him.

I'm not an arab, but I am muslim, and I find it ridiculous how the WWE portrays him as angry, a cheater, and jerk. What makes it even worse is that the fans are such idiots that they chant USA.

Whatever....Hassan's character should go dead b/c I'm sick of seeing Muslims being portrayed so negatively. That's the only problem that I have with this character.

it's just not cool how they portray him.The WWF/E has made numerous piss poor judgements when it comes down to creating a gimmick. This isn't the first and by no means will be the last.

What makes it even worse is that the fans are such idiots that they chant USA.
Don't go blaming the fans dude. What do you expect them to cheer? Ask yourself this question then, why do the fans chant "you suck" to an American, who won a Gold Medal, with a broken freakin neck. Total disrespect, IMO.

Whatever....Hassan's character should go dead b/c I'm sick of seeing Muslims being portrayed so negatively. :'( :'( :'(

You're playing right into the gimmick. It's not like La Resistance, where people are supposed to boo just because they're French - now that's stupid. It's because Americans are so sick of Arabs making themselves look like such victims, like our racism is just so rampant it is ruining their lives. That's why we're supposed to hate Hassan - he comes out and complains about how us racist Americans are so intolerant of his fellow Arabs. WWE isn't saying "hate Arabs" - more like, "hate these self-righteous assholes that blame everything that goes wrong in their lives on white America" - you know, like the Nation of Domination.

Well that's just my take on the character.

You know what? He's angry. He's angry at being mistreated by the American public...HIS FUCKING BRETHREN. That is his character and that in and of itself is not bad.

He's considered the bad guy because it plays to the rednecks.

I know what his character is about...but marks don't realize that. They just see it as, "these are all muslims and arabs..always angry terrorists." I'm not an arab, but the muslim part does hit me...and it's ridiculous.

I'd love to see how far it would go if a Jewish/Rabbi/Zionist character came in the mix, and talked about how the American people should pay even more money to support his Israeli Zionist cause. Then after all that, on Easter he comes and mocks the Christian religion. I'm sure Jewish Americans would be complaining immediately and his character would go dead in a minute.

The marks are also busy breeding with their cousins, because they don't want any of them thur niggers and jews getting to them first.

The problem here is that the people you're worried about thinking this way already do. It's unrealistic to assume there are people out there who let wrestling determine their prejudices. Do you really expect there are people out there going "You know, I really liked Muslims until I saw that fake wrestler acting like an ass as part of his role?"

They never portrayed a Muslim as a necrophiliac. Every nationality gets shit on in the WWE. Get over yourself.

By the way, Michaels mocks the Christian religion every Monday night. The difference is, he gets cheered for it.

I think they did. Remember all those times when Kane came out witha towel on his head?

(Okay, that was LOW).

You're right about this.
So then, the question is, what's the point?

Shop in my town got burned down because some ignorant shitheads couldn't tell the difference between Indian and Pakistani. I somehow doubt Tiger Ali-Signh, La Resistance, HBK or Hassan influenced them.

Arabs and muslims have been treated like shit in this country since 9-11 BECUASE of the same racist fuckwits. I mean, the folks who think Hassan rperesents Arabs or Muslims are the folks who already thought y'all were angry terrorists who fuck camels and have never experienced freedom or running water.

Honestly, I can see why you would be annoyed and everything, but this is bred from bigotry, not breeding the bigotry. It's playing on values already established.

Hassan is angry because his people, Americans who happen to have a different god or skin tone, are being horribly mistreated. And the kicker is, he's got a point: A reason to be mad, though it's a bit stereotypical. Then again, who isn't stereotypical in the WWE?

However, your problem is with ignorance in the American public, a mentality that allows this sort of thing to be acceptable. Without people booing him, much of what he has stated is not evil. IT's just he's preaching to the wrong crowd. Like a Jew preaching equality to the Klan. Of course he will be villified.

Craziness, where I'm from, most people don't have anything at all against arabs or islamic people at all; They do however narrow it down to being racist against islamic fundamentalists and the crazy ayatollahs.

Mind you I live on a military base in the middle of the redneck-filled south.

Basically, people who think Americans in general are racist against arabic people/muslims in general are fuckwits.

Isn't that how all muslims are? :D

That is a joke before someone gets shitty with me.
The point is, characters like Hassan may make more and more people feel this way.

Personally, I think it would have been a real credit to the WWE if they had made him a babyface

Damn, you beat me to it.

I love Muhammad Hassan, and I know he's a better wrestler than what we're seeing, and I really think they should give him and Shelton twenty minutes at WrestleMania, and have Hassan go over CLEANLY!

Then have a handshake between the two. A simple act, but it would work, IMO.

Before this match have them replay all his vignettes, and have him start to move away from "I hate America!" to "Why don't you accept me?".

The man had a FLAWLESS arguement, and the WWE realised this straight away and moved him to a more heelish version of the character, and I think that is wrong. Keep him right, have him play the babyface EVERYWHERE and give him some clean credible wins. Soon you won't have a racism-based character, but an accepted original babyface.

And I think he should make fun of the stupid fans at arenas who bring "Love it or Leave it" signs, and say stuff like "Go Home". Unless they mean Detroit. :wtf:

Americans in general?

Mmmm...No.

The primary fan base for wrestling fans? A significant population with racial/religious prejudices? Yes.

But keep trying to defend America with strawman tactics that blow previous claims out of proportion. You make us all look dumber with that shit, and help justify stereotypes against Americans. :y:

The problem is that it wouldn't work. You probably didn't catch the boos Hassan got in his earlier promos when he said "Praise Allah," because they were chopped out of the replays and most of the overseas broadcasts. His original promos got negative reactions without ever once saying bad things about America in general. Remember the "Judge me by my skills, not my skin color" stuff?

If he's getting booed when nicking a MLK Junior line, how exactly would you propose he be brought in as a babyface?

(Also, this proves Seph's point. Anyone who thinks there's an anti islamic sentiment or anti arab sentiment is a fuckwit... )

By the way, in Islam...God is the same God that the Christians and Jews worship. It's all part of the Abrahamic Monotheist stem.

I will only say one thing about this thread:

I laugh my ass off when they chant USA right after the announcers says: "Hailing from Detroit, Michigan - Muhammad Hussan".

When I first read that I thought you were refering to Michael Cole. I don't know why, I just did. I thought, "Jeez, Michael Cole does more than that. He mocks all of humanity."

But seriously, how so? Because he condones violence?
