ok, just re build my PC. Brand new everything, I got a 2.4 AMD chip, but when I boot up it shows as a 1.1Ghz? It also shows that on system in wondows.

I looked in the Bois and couldn't see anything to change it.

2 questions

1. How do I change it
2. Does it even matter?

are you sure it's a 2.4 chip, maybe CCL fucked up?

probably a bus speed jumper on the motherboard....

check to see what the bus speed on your cpu is, then check your motherboard for varabile settings for it.

most mobos can automatically detect it, but some still need the correct jumper configuarion.

Does it really matter? It seems to be running fine anyway.

And J yes i'm sure it's the right one, I got the box and receipt

well if yopu have an incorrect bus speed set, your puter will either not post, or post at lowered speeds.

so if you want the full capacity of the chip...

also, if you have an amd 2400 it wont actually run at 2.4 ghz, it runs at something like 1.8

all amds are deceptive that way.

what type of motherboard do you have, and what type of cpu (like sempron, athlon)

i'll be able to tell you if its a bus speed thing...

The board is: Gigabyte 7NF-RX Socket-A nForce2 ATX - Sound Lan USB2 400FSB ATA/133 Retail Box

My chip is actually a 2.6, got confussed with some other chips i got in the house: AMD Sempron PR2600+

Thanks in advance

closest I could fine was the 7NF-RZ, so I think that;ll be close enough.

http://america.giga-byte.com/MotherBoard/FileList/Manual/manual_7nf-rz_e.pdf

check page 8 on that, by the sounds of it, if the switch is on, it should see your cpu fine, if its set to off...it'll explain your problem

its a switch right above your agp slot, right where it says "cpu fan"

No you shouldnt have to reinstall.

The AMD Sempron PR2600+ socket A actually runs at 1.833 ghz thats what you should be seeing.

I have only built intel pentium systems so I have no idea about AMD's.

It's still showing the same 1.09 Ghz

Bump, still not working

Will it run faster if it's showing a faster speed?
