View Full Version : A frank discussion on fantasy baseball strategy.

Now I'm sitting here thinking about next week's first fantasy baseball draft (that I'm apart of) and I was looking over players, their rankings, etc. And I know it's sort of foolish perhaps to give insight on thoughts and strategy but I really feel like talking about this. So I thought perhaps a little 'quid-pro-quo' was in order. So ask a question and I (or whoever wishes to) can answer and in return ask back something.

I'm just super-pissed that my Java console doesn't work, so I have to be extra careful with my pre-draft rankings.

I'm trying to decide who is the true can't miss first overall DP...Randy Johnson or Albert Pujols?

DaveWadding

if yuo're choosing, Pujols. but Johnson at #1 is a REACH.

I dunno, last year Johnson had top four or five pitching stats, and now on the Yankees even if he loses a little ERA or WHIP his wins will go up

Damn, I still haven't bothered to pre-rank. :o

Probably should, even though I'm almost certain to be here for it.

Yeah I really don't know how to draft properly in fantasy baseball. I don't know any "sleepers" or anything.

Doesnt help that last year I picked Barry Zito really early too lol. I thought he was gonna have a big year :(

One of the leagues that I am in is incredibly gay, its got 2 catchers, a middle infielder, corner infielder, and five outfield spots, with 10 teams. There's not that many good players, thats just lame.

Just take the best overall player in at least the first two-three rounds. From there, start thinking position.

Joey, is your computer part of a system? If so, try removing yourself from it for the draft..

No. I've got a laptop. I don't know if that answers your question. If not, dumb it down a shade.

Depends on the league and what is the focus. Like usually I won't touch pitchers until the third round unless the league gives an advantage to pitchers.

Who do you guys have as your top 5 players?

I have it as:
1. Pujols
2. A-rod
3. Beltran
4. Vlad
5. Ortiz or Tejada, I dunno

1. A-Rod
2. Pujols
3. Vlad
4. Beltran
5. Soriano

I'd tend to drop Beltran down the list a bit, simply because he's yet to prove anything besides a one year wonder. There's other players that have proven themselves more consistant with his type of numbers to rank him that high....of course if he repeats himself, I'm completely wrong in my assessment.

He was alwaya solid in KC and his playoff performance was pretty insane

Also I had my draft today, and was able to grab Scott Poseidnik in the 5th round

Podsednik is an average player who can run fast. Unless your draft had about 20 or so teams, I'd say you jumped the gun on that one.

Nervous Ferret
03-14-2005, 12:09 AM
an average player with 70 steals

16 teams btw

Supreme Olajuwon

70 steals along with a whopping 85 runs, .244 avg, and .667 OPS in a hitter's park

Compare that to Ichiro, Carl Crawford, Juan Pierre, or even Chone Figgins. Plus Chicago's lineup isn't shaping up to be all that intimidating

So, this topic has established one thing. Nervous Ferret is the biggest retard ever.

Where can I get a site with depth charts of all the teams? I'm talking like easy to navigate shit I can use when I do my drafts.

DaveWadding

I wanna have a good year this year. Gotta check out the point system and shit and see what I should pick up. Always end up picking up too many Red Sox though :(

I think I am going to drop out of the TPWW league

YOUR Hero

Why? You'd, A) Make it an odd numbered league
B) Be blacklisted by those of us that hate quitters and joining other leagues wouldn't be so easy.

That's okay, took the spot so it's an even league now

BCWWF

That neg rep was kind of uncalled for Big Vito 22, it's not like I dropped out just to be a douche I dropped out because I am in two leagues with my friends and the TPWW league would be my third priority, which means I probably wouldn't have given half a shit about it.
