Can't find a thread already posted about this film.

Saw it last night. It stars Kevin Bacon as a child molester who has just been released from prison, after serving a 12 year sentence for molesting 2 girls between 10-12 years of age.

It follows him as he tries to adjust to every day life once again. He gets a job in a sawmill, and starts a relationship with a troubled woman who works there.

A big part of the film is the character, Walter, struggling to cope with his urges as he tries to re-build his life.

It's an engrossing film. Many reviewers have said, and I agree, that the key part of this film is that Walter is not portrayed as a monster, as a predator, but as a troubled man full of regret and self-loathing. You are forced to challenge your mindset on whether a child sex offender should be allowed to make his way in society once again, having served his time.

I thought it was excellent.

I was glad like you said that we could not hate him. A lot of pedophiles are trying to deal with the fact that they are attracted to children. We never talk about the ones who are trying to help themselves and succeed. It's easier to hate them. They will always be sick but at least some of them can control themsleves.

Have got a copy, not watched it yet. Really looking forward to it though, Bacon seems perfect casting for this type of role.

I remember seeing the trailer for this movie online and I really wanted to see it. It seemed like one of those movies that people were either gonna like or hate and the subject of the film is something of what would of made peoples decisions. It sounded like a good film and I think when the chance comes I just might have to see this.

Thought I'd bump this up cause the DVD came out here in the US and I rented it.

What an excellent, excellent movie. Bacon plays the role perfectly, and it made for a really interesting film.

I'd say leave your prejudices behind when you watch it, but for some people, that's unpossible.
