Goldberg's wrestling skills are mediocre at best. I think he was jealous that Bret Hart, WWF's best ever, was getting more heat than him when he joined WCW. I'm not saying he did it on purpose, but he could have taken more care not to injure his opponents. As Bret Hart says in Wrestling with Shadows, the true art of wrestling is in making the fights look real and believable with neither wrestler getting hurt (or words to that effect).

From what I've heard about the situation (and this first part may be wrong) is that Bret was injured before the match took place. During the match, Goldberg (who is sloppy as hell in the ring) went for a back kick and nailed Bret square in the head giving him a concussion, the effects of which Bret still feels today. Then there was the accident and the stroke, but yeah, Goldberg definitely ended hi career.

The way i heard it was that he got injured during the match, before the kick to the head.

There was a figure 4 spot on the outside ringpost and Goldy didn't hold him right, to his head cracked against the floor, then he super kicked him later and that truly fucked him up,

The next night he wrestled Kevin Nash and took a jackknife as well, i'm sure the combination of it all didn't help much

I still blame Goldberg

Sure it was Goldberg's fault, but it was an accident, so you can't really blame him. Wrestling has it's dangers, especially when you have guys who are big and aggressive.

Bret was already on the way out I believe, due to an injury he already had. I think Goldberg just helped him along :-\

Unfortunately I think you may be right. But just because someone is on the way out, doesn't mean they ARE out ... I admit I'm biased but I think that Bret's career ended way way way too soon and Goldberg was at fault. But then, if McMahon hadn't told Bret to go to WCW, and then screwed him out of the title in Montréal, things could well have been different ...

Well Bret was already suffering a bad concussion from a chair shot he recieved the week or so before, which people dont know/remember, so although Goldberg did kick Bret and cause more damage, to blame Goldberg 100% is wrong.

I blame Hogan. If it wasn't for Hogan holding people down, it's possible that Goldberg would have never had the chance to rise to the top in a company that was starved for new talent. Guys like Benoit and Jericho would have been fighting Bret to this day, and they'd be doing it intelligently because they have wrestling tallent and wouldn't have hurt him.

Oh, and I'll translate the above for the Canadians who read this post:

"I blame Shawn Michaels. HE sucks, and he won't let the screwjob die. WHerever he goes he always brings it up, and he should be put in jail because he's a murderer. He's the murderer of Bret Harts championship run. We should lynch him and kill him. Hockey Rulz!"

Wrestling has its dangers. However, you should expect competence out of other professionals.

That's like arguing that you should expect danger when driving down the highway, so it's not the fault of the guy who was DUI-ing down the wrong side of the freeway with no license or brakes.

Goldberg, however, was not solely at fault, and therein is the difference. He was the anvil that broke the camel's back.

Actually, Bret faced Golberg again the next night on Nitro, for the then-vacant WCW Championship. The title was vacated, because Bret didn't want to win via the Sharpshooter screwjob. This was where Bret officially rejoined the nWo.

Ive seen the kick i dunno how many times, to me bret didn't get his hands up far enough in time. His hands were about chin level but the kick skidded off his hands and onto his head.
