as a huge stanley kubrick fan, i'd put the treatment scene in clockwork orange on the list, and certainly the entire finale-nicholson-goes-insane scene from the shining. de niro shooing the pimp in taxi driver is pretty nuts, too. but there are far too many powerful scenes in cinema history to list.

Rudy: When he tackles the guy in the final scene and they show his father, his brother, his freind and the groundskeeper guy and they're all proud of him. Made me :'(

Stand By Me When Chris stands his ground and Ace was about to kill him, but Gordie shoots the gun off.

The War When Kevin Costner's character gives the cotton candy to those asshole kids, when his son(Elijah Wood) just got beat up by them.

Of Mice and Men When he shoots his brother. That was tough to watch.

I don't feel like going past the Bs, because I am lazy, but there are 9235 more I can name.

just thought-

Shawshank Redemption - where they cripple the guy who had been rapping andy

The Great Escape - after they have all been recaptured & the germans tell them to stretch their legs, then kill them all.

Escape to Victory - apart from Pele's overhead kick, the scene where they can escape at half time but choose to play on as they can win the game is good.

Stand By Me - When Chris stands his ground and Ace was about to kill him, but Gordie shoots the gun off. (thanks LC)

The Towering Inferno - when Steve McQueen drops the fireman from the lift to then realise he landed safely

Cool Hand Luke - Paul Newmans performance was excellent and i love the way that in the end he still had that daft grin on his face.

Shawshank the Andy "Jesus Christ Pose" in the rain after he escapes is pretty powerful. It's my wallpaper at work.

Sappy yet powerful, the moving penny scene in "Ghost".

The Russian Roulette Scene when they are all captured in "The Deer Hunter".

Mystic River, when Senn Penn's Character (Jimmy) shoots Tim Robbins (Dave) thinking he killed his daughter. Actually the last 15-20 minutes of the movie blew my fucking mind.

The torture scene in "The Passion of the Christ".

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Godfather 3's ending. Even though it was kinda shitty watching Michael Corleone die and knowing that it was officially over must've had some kind of impact when it first came out.

Bambi - His mom dying

I have to say a lot of the ones already mentioned.

Also in Gladiator when Phoenix's character stabs Crowe's character.

El Santo
03-26-2005, 07:44 PM
The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly --- The final three-way show down, which was basically a long, drawn out scene with close-up of squinty eyes and handguns, set to Morricone's excellent theme. (CoE already mentioned this, but this is possibly my favorite scene of all time.)

The Usual Suspects --- slow take when it's revealed who Keyser Soze is.

Nightmare on Elmstreet --- the scene where that one teenager (I think it was Depp) sinks into the bed and is shredded to pieces

Goodfellas --- when those kinds find that dead couple under the bridge in the Cadillac, and Leyla by Eric Clapton plays in the background

Dark City --- the scene where the Strangers fly over the city

Predator --- "You're one ugly motherf**ker"

American History X- I think the scene where his father speaks out about his racism. Just for that scene to be the catalyst of the rest of Norton's life. Plus, the black and white was great.
I also think Brook's death in the Shawshank Redemption is powerful

Blitz
03-31-2005, 02:22 PM
American Beauty-Lester gets fired, the scene at the dinner table

Closer-The confrontation between Larry and Dan in Larry's Office ("Ever See A Human Heart? It looks like a fist wrapped in blood!")

Suicide Kings-Lono's speech about his father.

Lost In Translation-The ending (One of the most perfect music cues ever as the cab drives off.)

Seven-Sommerset opens the box.

Chasing Amy-The scene in the rain between Alyssa and Holden.

Jaws-Quint's speech

The whole of this film is fantastic. I have seen it in Italian (called La Vita č Bella), what a film.

When Benigni is being led away to be executed, but he doesn't want his son to worry so he does that funny walk and pulls the silly face. Then gunshots.

:'(

Then the end bit where Giosuč finds his mother: 'Abbiamo vinto!'
