Hi everybody,
Just made an account here and thought I'd say hello.
Question: Does an undeniable wrestling legend who is a former WWF Champion qualify for the WWE Hall of Fame, even though most of his historical moments took place elsewhere?
Ric Flair's spent decades in the sport, and is, what, a 16 time former champion? He is legendary, but most of it is due to his time in the NWA and WCW. So does he deserve to be in the WWE Hall of Fame?
Exactly what has he done in the WWF? Certainly, The Nature Boy's highlight year in the company was 1992. He came shortly before this year and left shortly afterwards. Is this year impressive enough?
In late 1991 Bobby Heenan started introducing the man as "the REAL world's champion". He interefered in Taker/Hogan at Survivor Series 1991 to allow Taker his first WWF title reign. It all set-up for a WM8 confrontation, but that never happened.
This is basically how 1992 went:
Royal Rumble 1992: His greatest WWF accomplishment, and the greatest Royal Rumble ever. Albany was rockin. Even though HBK claims to have drawn #1 and won the whole thing in 1995, it was with a cheap-ass 30 second interval modification. 1992 has the original TWO MINUTE intervals per entry, and Ric Flair drew #3, and lasted through the entire thing to win his first WWF title. I still watch this Rumble on video all the time. It's just too good.
Wrestlemania VIII: A title loss to Macho Man, but what a memorable fued! Ric Flair, Mr. Perfect, and Bobby Heenan made a great combination.
Summerslam 1992: I don't recall him wrestling here, but he played a part in the Warrior/Macho Man match. A relatively minimal role.
Title win over Macho Man:I remember watching this one on TV when I was a kid, and I remember Razor Ramon coming it to kick Macho's ass, and I remember cheering my ass off at Flair's 2nd WWF title reign.
Title loss to Bret Hart: Apparently Vince McMahon wanted to push someone new, and with Flair's contract expiration coming up, he picked the Hart Foundation member. In hindsight, what a pick!
Survivor Series 1992: Teamed with Razor to battle Mr. Perfect and Macho Man. I was pissed at this PPV for numerous reasons. First, this was the first one where they dropped the team vs. team format. Second, I didn't like Mr. Perfect's face turn. I wanted him to stay with Flair!
Royal Rumble 1993: Ric Flair's second Royal Rumble. He is eliminated and then goes back to WCW.
So is this enough? Of course we know he came back to the WWF around 2002 and fought the Taker at WMX-7, then teamed with Evolution to face the Rock 'n' Sock Connection at WMXX, and of course was in this years Royal Rumble at #30......but other than those PPV's he's basically been a part-time wrestler.
So what's the verdict? Is it ENOUGH for th Hall of Fame????
Hey by the way, are any of you going to WrestleMania? We're selling a ticket on eBay if you're interested. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=16122&item=6520187898&rd=1
