- WrestlingObserver's Dave Meltzer is reporting that Lance Storm came out of retirement last night during tapings for Ohio Valley Wrestling, teaming with Joey Matthews & Johnny Nitro against Tommy Dreamer & The Dudley Boyz. Both Storm and Dreamer are trainers at OVW and are more than likely getting back into ring shape for the ECW One Night Stand PPV event on June 12th in New York City.

Storm has also expressed interest on his website about facing Chris Benoit at the upcoming RAW tapings in Calgary on May 30 to continue his temporary in-ring comeback. Storm retired in April of 2004 and has since been working in OVW as a head trainer.

BTW

He was boring in ECW.

He was boring in WCW.

And he was boring in the WWE.

I hope he stays in retirement.

Two Huge ECW Stars Come Out of Retirement at OVW Tapings
Filed under:

- Henry Walk @ 10:00 am EST

After last night’s OVW TV tapings, Tommy Dreamer, who was out in OVW scouting WWE talent with Paul Heyman, came out to the ring and said he had an announcement. He started to talk about his role in WWE when suddenly he was interrupted by MNM (Joey Matthews, Johnny Nitro and Melina). They ragged on ECW and said Dreamer was a washed up wrestler, but said that they knew someone who hated Dreamer more than they did. Out came Lance Storm. Lance talked briefly about his history and said he was the one who broke Tommy’s back. Dreamer walked towards the ropes as if he was leaving, but he stopped and made his announcement. He said he was coming out of retirement to wrestle again.

The Dudley Boyz came out, which prompted a six-man tag match under “ECW” rules. Bubba and D-Von got Matthews in the 3D and won the match. After the win MNM and Storm attacked Dreamer and the Dudleyz but Johnny Jeter and Matt Cappotelli came out for the save.

Dreamer and Storm are two major ECW stars and this could all culminate around a Tommy Dreamer vs. Lance Storm match at the One Night Stand pay-per-view.

People say Lance Storm is boring. I don't know, when he was in WCW, I enjoyed watching him, with his "I'd like to be serious for a moment" speeches, and his Canadian Title. They just didn't utilize him well in WWE. I mean, there are things you can do with a "boring" worker. WCW managed to do it quite well...why couldn't WWE?

I think he would do well as a silent but deadly heel type of character. He wouldn't have to stray much from his own personality. Isn't it mostly true that the best characters are those that are simply exaggerated versions of the real person? Didn't Lance Storm, the character, finally end up trying to be "hip"? I think I remember something about that. If so, it probably didn't work out because it just wasn't him.

I hope that makes sense.

I always wondered what happened to Lance. I thought they had fired him or something.

But I always enjoyed him in WCW, I didn't get to see much ECW. I thought the "can I be serious for a moment" stuff was hilarious and all the pro-Canada stuff too.

I don't know. I don't mind watching Lance Storm, but to me he has always been a bit overrated. He's really just an average wrestler that has had some good matches that stand out - as have most in their careers. I wouldn't necessarily change the channel if he is on, but I wouldn't be compelled to sit and watch either.

In either case, good luck to him in coming out of retirement, and I wish him the best in his upcoming matches :y:

LANCE IS THE MAN!!!! He's definitely in my top 10 list. His gimmick in WCW was hilarious..."if I can be serious for a minute...."

His ECW days were great! I remember I used to mark out when he'd say, "I'm from CALGARY, ALBERTA-CANADA!"

I did enjoy him in WCW and that's about it.Primetime was actually the best wrestler in Team Canada. I never like ECW and I never seen Storm in a classic match.

I loved Lance in WCW. They pushed him so well. He won like 3 Titles and started giving them away. LOL.
