View Full Version : Do you like the current Wrestle Mania title situation in the WWE?

We only have 3 heavily booked matches for wrestle mania the 2 big belts and the womens belt. Chavo vs Paul london was barely touched up on.

Ive heard people say "this Mania is going to suck because most of the titles are not being defended".
Personally I think that line of thinking is, well, dumb.
Most of the titles have very little value, and therefore they would only take down the quality of the show by having them defended. Would a match with Regal and Tajiri against La Res really add anything to Mania? What about Rey and Eddie against the Bashams instead of Rey vs Eddie? Or maybe a Orlando title defense against Booker T, woudl that really put Mania over the top? Not bloody likely.
The Chavo-London thing got nixed probably because of time restraints more than anything, and yeah it would be nice to see ANY match to take the place of Akebono-Show, but at the same time I can see their logic for that match.
I would have put the IC title on the line in the Ladder Match, maybe along with the World Title shot, that would have actually elevated the IC title, instead of making it seem worthless.
Also, since they didn't book a match for OJ and the US title, its looking more and more rediculous that they took the US title off Cena. So that could have been title for title.
But all that said, I think the card is very solid, and the fact that most of the titles are not being defended really doesn't bother me that much.

Sorry, I voted for Loose Cannon.

yea, agree with CyNick. There's only 3 Titles I actually care about and 2 of them are being defended, so it's fine. Would of liked to see the IC being defended, but whatever.
BTW, you want your breakout star for '05: Shelton Benjamin.

The titles don't bother me, but the lack of hype for these matches does. Last minute booking of what could be really solid matches kinda blows, and it's hard to get into the card.

Yeah the most hyped match honestly is Orton vs Taker.

Chavo v. London was put off because Chavo injured his eye.
But with the current title situation, it was smart that these titles were not put on the line. Tag titles? What's the use when there are barely any credible and actual teams. IC? That one could work, but the stipulation for the future World Title match makes up for it. U.S? Who else is OJ gonna fight and make it a 5-star match for the title. I would think Booker T since he's got nothing to do, but it just doesn't fit.
Just remember, they are trying to sell the biggest PPV of the year, so they are going to give us the best show possible and the secondary titles just can't do that like they did before.

Hassan may fight for the IC title I think, even though Mr. Benjamin is in a match

Heres the Thing, do you put a match together just to put a title match in? the Emphasis this year is kinda on the dream matches... such as HBK/Angle and Orton/Undertaker. Really with such a strong card not including a title gives the show more depth in my opinion.
Also it shows how weak the Tag Divisions are, if you remember from last year the 2 4way matches they made were kinda the piss breaks, wouldnt u guys rather give more time to say the upper card matches instead of takin away some time from them and throwing a match in just because?
thoughts?

I will say, I'm rather surprised at the all but total lack of title defenses at WrestleMania. However, I'm not complaining; most of these matches will be entertaining. But you really would think the tag titles of both shows would be defended -- that is, unless the company knows the Tag Titles are lacking in purpose.
I understand the U.S. and IC titles are basically 2nd PLace. Nothing against them, but let's be real. But to me, the Tag champs have always been the #2 top dogs. Even thru the past few years, when there's been no solidity for the Tag Titles.
But you also have nothing to blame for a lack of purpose in the Tag Titles except for the lack of purpose in Tag Teams themselves. See, the way they've been working tag reigns has changed a bit, from what I can tell. There is no "top team". There is Team A faces Team B. Team B faces Team C. Team C faces Team D, and so on. There is no reason to hope or want for the Tag Teams. There's no HHH/Batista tension. No "I want Jericho's overdue title shot" drive. And it's not for the lacking effort of the teams, it's because teams keep getting held down and pushed aside and reassigned so much that the ability of the fans to even care is almost suffocated by the company's ability to ignore a potential goldmine.
I know I went off on a rant, and it's not exactly the topic of this post, and for that I apologize. All i'm getting at, is that I, personally, enjoy the Tag Titles with the same hopeful, pseudo-nostalgic naivity that keeps the rest of us simply watching the shows, making us pray against logic that everything will get better. Damn, that was a long sentence.
Sum it up: Do I want title shots "just because"? No. Do I want respect returned to a notable division of entertainment? Yes.

They should have one tag team belts then have them defend it on both show since WGTT broke up there has been not more then one real tag team on each show. they should have just kept Team angle feuding with the bashems then finish it at Mania and have Eddie vs Rey for the US belt however that may set Eddie back a peg, I dunno.

Again, I think the card really needed more hype. I should be on the edge of my seat to see who wins the Orton-Taker match, yet I'm thinking "pissbreak." Angle/HBK has provided some amusing moments, and is probably the most solid match IMO, but I'm not feeling the build. OOH! HE WON A LADDER MATCH AND MADE A CHICK TAP OUT...
Hunter/Batista has had its moments, and its crappy ones.
Ladder match? Probably the one I most want to see. Has a few of my faves, even if the whole "Kane in a ladder match" thing is utterly retarded.

Perhaps Kane will do a moon sault of the ladder.

I could never vote for Loose Cannon. He abandoned me at Ortonmarkland and security couldn't find my parents so I died. In my final will and testiment, I vote for the "It's not too bad" one...

I would have loved to have seen RVD back in action against OJ for the US title at Mania. Sure it was just wishful thinking, seeing as how knee injuries take quite a bit of time to recover from and Van Dam's was fairly recently (beginning of '05), but I think it would be a perfect match-up. ***SIGH*** Oh well... :-\

If Kane wasnt put in that match, who would you have put in and would Kane have a match if he wasnt? I dont see who he would face. I see your point hes too good a talent to keep off a WM heck he was in the next to last match last year, but he really had no where to go after they scrapped the Heidy/Snitsky vs Taker/Kane thing. Question Im asking if where would you have put him if not in that match?

I wasn't talking about you. I've read/heard that line of thinking on several different places, I was talking about it in a general sense.

I don't like Batista, HHH, Cena, or JBL, so I'm not particularly excited about the WM title scene.

Yeah, there isn't a HUGE amount of talent you could have put in there.
Also, Kane doesn't need to be at wrestlemania, but here's how I see it if he was...
Hassan.
He's been bitching about a lack of appearance at WM. Book him with the perennial jobber.
But honestly, I don't give a shit if Kane's at WM or not.

if the writers actually gave a damn about any titles besides the main two then i'd be pissed off. As it happens the tag and midcard titles haven't meant shit for a long time it seems.
I think its pretty lame that this is the biggest event of the year and the people who have the titles aren't on the show....instead they get replaced by shit like big show and akebono. I don't care how little build up there would be to the title matches, it should be a point of principle that all the titles are defended at the biggest event of the year. stupid WWE writers.

Actually, the principle is that you book strong matches. In either case, the bookers are falling through.
Benjamin has the IC strap. So what? They have the perfect chance to push him, and he's stagnated. Now he's involved in a Ladder match, the IC strap being ignored. So put it on someone else and put it to use.
Tag team champs on Raw? Fuck that. They've been relegated to training a T&A case with the charisma of one of those singing bass thingies.
I actually don't want either tag belt on wrestlemania though. The tag divisions are below shit on the food chain. I want to see them change that, but don't stick this shit on the card.
The US title? Lost its meaning once Cena was dropped off it, but it could be used as a centerpiece to the cabinet. You know, OJ wins, it sets a good tone for the champ later in the night? Something like that?
