View Full Version : Road Warriors vs. the Dudley Boys

I was just looking through that thing about the Road Warrior dvd, and it mentioned the Road Warriors are the only tag team to have held all 3 major tag team titles, AWA, WW(F)E, and WCW. And they made mention of the Road Warriors being the most dominate tag team in history.
While reading this, I couldn't help but think what about the Dudley Boys? Now the Dudleys never held the AWA belts to my knowledge, but they did hold the ECW belts, and ECW was the 3rd largest promotion of its day, kind of replacing AWA in a way. Plus I believe the Dudleys have held more tag team championships than the Road Warriors.
Both are good teams, but I don't know if the Road Warriors can be called the most dominate tag team with out at least mentioning the Dudleys.

The Road Warriors are more dominating in the fact that they never sold.

Yea, awesome DVD. To bad they are not showing when Animal jammed the spike in Dusty's eye. I guess it's a little to graphic.

I would say LOD were more dominant, because the Dudleys never really won the WCW tag titles. They won them in the WWE, and at that point they were really just another WWE championship.
Dudleys are/were a great team, but I dont think they can be considered in the same league as the LOD.

Why would a Road Warriors DVD mention other Tag Teams? It's about them. Therefore, they're only going to promote themselves in the best of lights.

yeah usually DVDs are totally biased as to who they are about.

For those who are asking, I can't quite remember the year ('86 or '87 maybe) but soon after Turner took control of the WCW from Jim Crockett Promotions, Dusty Rhodes was the booker and was pissed off because they had mandated that there be no more graphic violence, violent terms like "kill", or blood on the TV broadcasts. So Dusty, as a protest, wrote a segment where the Roadies turned heel by attacking Dusty during alive interviw and used one of the spikes form their shoulder pads to gouge his eye, drawing tons of blood and gore.
Dusty got fired almost immediately and ended up in WWF. That was where he did the whole "black outfit with yellow polka dots and ahuge fat black valet" gimmick.

In my opinion, The Road Warriors were the better tag team of the two. Their in-ring timing and chemistry were all-around better than the Dudleys. The Road Warriors basically were THE tag team innovators[not to take away from those before them]. But, once the LOD/Road Warriors made a resurgence in the tag team division, it paved the way for all future team to follow.
Don't get me wrong though, the Dudley Boys are definetely the best team currently together[with the rumored Eddie turn on Rey-Rey]. I just wish tag team divisions today were as deep and many as they once were.

I'm not saying that DVD's aren't biased and they should mention the Dudleys. I'm just saying it got me thinking, and I say the Dudleys are at least on par with the Road Warriors.
That's fair enough. Others don't though.

They are definately the top 2 tag teams off all time. Lets see, who would round out the top 5 then? The Outsiders? The New Age Outlaws? Head Cheese? E&C? Rock and Sock? Brother's of Destruction? Nasty Boys? Public Enemy? The Impact Players? The Hardies? The APA/Acolytes (still, they are probably the most elite real tag teams besides Rock and Sock Connection, what with both member holding a World championship at one time)? Harlem Heat?

I was never a big Road warriors/LOD fan. Well... maybe a bit back when they were in the WWF with the nasty boys. The Dudley's from ECW were great. Best. Heel tag team. Ever. As for who was better overall... I'll still go with the Dudleys for me, personally. Even though I know most people would disagree. I just think they had the better overall package of mic skills and in-ring chemistry. They would of never been over in the 70's or 80's though, the same way LOD would never be over now.
