My standard HP computer came with two slots... regular CD ROM, and a separate DVD Writer/cd-writer combo.

Anyways, the CD ROM broke so I replaced it with a new CDROM and Burner.

When I install games and software it works fine now. But when I try to burn onto a blank CD (which I put in my CDROM and burner slot), the program doesn't recognize a CD and the DVD/cd-writer combo slot opens, wanting me to put the blank disc in there.

The problem is, the DVD/cd-writer combo is also broke. So How do I get my computer to burn using the CDROM and burner I just bought?

Check the manufacturer's website for updated drivers for the device, and reinstalling the device itself might not hurt.

If its Nero you are using, you can just hit,
Recorder > Choose recorder
and point it to the new device.

Did you try setting your PC on fire? That might help?
