Did he do just for bragging rights? or was it something the writers wanted?

oh and another thing if they we just gonna give HHH back the title at new years revolution they should have had Edge and benoit fight for it when Jericho hosted raw. I guess have benoit win so it would stop Edges gimmick then HHH could have won it in the chamber.

I'd say to set up the 6 pack challenge, just for a little mix up in the main event slot.

BUT

I think it's more likely just for bragging rights.

Shoulda said this in last post but, Vinny Mac won the title as a face!
Didn't he beat HHH with interference from the Rock! (can't remember to tell you the truth!)

I also repped you Marcyo cos I think it's about time i did! :D

Yeah HHHY called him out and austin saved him in the match. Vince was a face.

It was bragging rights. Especially after he made it clear he would never do what WCW did with old guys and then did it with himself.

It helped him turn face, and helped align himself with Austin. Also when Vince turned face and opposed HHH, it helped HHH be elevated as the main event heel.

Vince is 3 times better than some of the hyped up guys right now (Masters...)

Vince winning it was pretty good though. Say what you want, it was booked really well, IMO.

Unlike David Arquette's WCW title reign...

I marked out HUGE when he won it. Quite a moment.

I guess one reason was to setup the 6pack challenge, and the other was indeed bragging rights. But at least he vacated the title the following RAW and didn't actually attempt to defend it (which I wouldn't have minded).

It had to be to stroke his own ego.

I mean they wanted to spice up the Austin-HHH program which was not going very well at the time, but they could have easily used any mid card guy to fill that spot to take the title.

Vince McMahon had "left" the company after Austin beat The undertaker at Fully Loaded. He was gone for two months. On RAW many months later, Triple H had Austin arrested. Later that night Linda came out and Triple H was threatening to beat the shit out of her. He was about to when Vince came out to a big pop, saved his wife and Austi ncame out and finished HHH off.

HHH came out on Smackdown! and challenged McMahon. McMahon for some reason got up, came out, and tried to talk with Hunter who wouldn't have anything of it and pelted him and began to beat the shit out of him. The ref bumped, and Shane came out was a ref for awhile, but couldn't stand seeing his father get beat up. He tried to help and got a Pedigree for his troubles.

It looked like Triple H was going to kill Vince when Austin's music hit and HHH being the idiot he is, stood up and waited for Austin to come out of the entry way. Of course, Austin didn't do that and came out of the crowd. I think he may have given Triple H a chairshot and then gave Chyna a stunner but he for some reason put McMahon on Trip's and got a three count and thus Vince McMahon became WWF Champion.

He gave it up on Monday night after Austin reinstated him, and put it up in the Six Pack Challenge match.

Definitely to stroke his own ego. Vince always wanted to be a wrestler, but his father never let him. Winning the WWF Title was probably his dream come true (other than, y'know, owning the biggest wrestling company in the world and destroying all competitors).

Vince used to do it all the time though - put himself into matches so he could play wrestler. vs Austin, vs Triple H, vs Shane, vs Hogan. I don't mind though, because more often than not, they make for really great matches.
