I kind of think that these guys are Wrestlecrap material. I don't really like the gimmick of the red carpet and the photography going on. Other than that, Melinna does an awesome job on being the voice of the team. Haven't seen them in the ring alot so its hard to judge how good they are in the ring, but its good to have tag teams so its nice that WWE brought them in.

From what I've seen of the two...they're pretty good. That team finisher though needs some work. Hopefully they'll get better as time goes on.

I thought their finisher looked good. It might be because of Rey selling it though :-\

How long can these guys with this gimmick last? They have temporary tag team written all over them. They're like a gayer version of Test, Albert, and Trish.

thank you! MNM, is one of the best things that has happned to SD in a while, CArlito is also tite, the only thing MNM needs to change is their ring attire *not the fluffy coats tho* and the name just sounds to simlilar to the rapper...other than that they r GREAT!

The only improvement I could make with these two is their entrance theme. It just seems too out of place and generic with these guys.
Joey Mercury is a veteran, and he brings talent to the table. Johnny Nitro's fairly inexeperienced, but he's got charisma, and he seems compotent enough in the ring, and as time goes on he'll become more and more confident, and Mercury will be able to help him with that.
I don't really like the idea of Melina talking to "Paris" and "Ashton" on the phone, because nobody believes that for a second, but maybe if they said her dad is a movie producer that "knows people" or something.
I can see these three together until they "outgrow" their tag team status so to speak. Much like Edge & Christian did. The WWE shouldn't be afraid to have Mercury or Nitro go into singles action once in a while, just as long as they stay together and have that tag team base to them.
Now if only their was a strong division for them to work in. Hardcore Holly & Charlie Haas shuold be in line for a shot at the WWE Tag Team Championship soon. I wouldn't mind seeing The Basham Brothers turn face or something of the like to feud with MNM for a while. I think the WWE should hire some more tag teams (like they've been doing), and keep some of the ECW talent they have lined up for the show under contract. Namely The FBI, Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney, etc.

I like that WWE is starting to pay attention to the tag divisions again. Starting two weeks ago with MNM debuting, continuing on RAW this week with the debut of the Heartthrobs. Actually storylines revolving around the Tag Team Titles on both shows? Perish the thought!
But, yeah, these guys are great. Mercury is a really solid worker, and Nitro is capable of some  spots. Plus, Nitro has - as someone mentioned above - serious charisma. And even though Melina is not as attractive as a lot of the recent "diva" additions, she actually fits on a wrestling show, as she plays the old-school bitch valet role very very well. She reminds me a bit of (a more flexible) Sherri Martel.
I'm not crazy about their entrance music, but I like the "celebrity" gimmick. I agree that their tights are pretty stupid, but they make it work.
Honestly, could you ask for anything more than having one of the best stick men in the business putting you over in his interview segment, then getting a win over two of the most over stars on the roster in your first two weeks on the job? I hope that WWE knows what they have in Mercury and Nitro, because these guys will be special one day. Hell, they're special now.
I really hope that they push the Heartthrobs in a similar fashion. I don't mean give them the RAW Tag Titles, but don't make them into a jokey jobber tag team. I like what they did on RAW, where they pounded on Regal and Tajiri after their loss. They seem to be all goofy and happy-go-lucky, but they've got a mean streak. Kinda like Invasion-era Kurt Angle.
No, I'm not comparing Antonio and Romeo to Kurt Angle, I'm just saying...
I look forward to seeing what the bookers have planned for these guys. I'm also wondering if a call-up is in the works for Matt Cappotelli and Johnny Jeter (The Thrillseekers).

MNM need a high impact tag finisher. That modified ddt just sucks.
They should do a cross body/powerbomb combo or a slingshot/springboard dropkick combo. Something that is relatively safe, but screams "HOLY SHIT".
loopydate
04-24-2005, 11:01 PM
^ The only problems with those are: the powerbomb move limits the opponents that they can perform it on, and the dropkick combo has to be timed perfectly or else it wouldn't look good.
Their double-DDT is like the 3-D in that it looks painful, and it's hard to mess up.

How awesome would it be to have Joey Mercury hit the catapult on an opponent, while Nitro hits the Standing Shooting Star Press on that same opponent, sending them back down onto Mercury's knees. Call it the Iron Maiden or something. It would be hard to pull off, and I don't think it would be possible to make into a full-time finisher, but for one more match with Eddie Guerrero & Rey Mysterio, it would be a nice touch to end the match.
Why not just reverse the move they currently have? Johnny Nitro gets the guy up for a Train Wreck like move, only for Joey Mercury to catch the guy with a reverse DDT. So it is pretty much going to be a Powerbomb/Reverse DDT Combo, which I'm sure has been done, but could still turn out awesome.
And let Nitro use the SSSP, and let Mercury use a move like the Sky High or something to win matches as well.
As for names for their flapjack/DDT style move, how about The ElMNator?

Call it what you will, the team finisher does need some work. Some teams don't need a team finisher, others do. It's obvious that they want Mercury and Nitro to have one which is fine. I just think it doesn't need to be an elevated DDT. While it looks impressive, it's actually rather basic. That Catapult/SSSP thing would look tight if it's done right 100% of the time. And that's my 2 dinars.

I think this is one case where some are being too critical... the DDT is simple if you have good knowledge of moves, but it looks pretty brutal to most people.
And hell, if the WWE champ can have the F-U, MNM can certainly have this. ;)
Also, I agree with what SammyG said. :D

Well, you see the Buff Blockbuster is a move that Buff Bagwell uses where he stands on the second rope (it would probably have to be the top rope for MNM) and then he jumps and grabs the opponents head and does a flipping neckbreaker. Hurricane uses it sometimes.
The electric chair drop is a move where you put your opponent on your shoulders so that he is facing the same direction you are. From that position you can either fall backward or pop him forward for a reverse powerbomb.
the Blockbuster/Electric chair combo would involve one guy on the top rope flipping forward into a neckbreaker on the opponent (who would be sitting on the othe MNM guy's shoulders.

A small step forward to improving the Tag Team division.

Exactly where i'm coming from. Weve complained for so long about not having 'real' tag teams, and now weve got a couple, you guys still arent happy. It's impossible to please some people. If you look at the match they had on SD! for the tag titles properly, you'll notice it was a good entertaining match.
The only thing i don't like is the cheesy line they have which goes something like..'the N team always on the scene' or something. That is the only thing i'm being critical of though.

I love MNM. I haven't seen much from Matthews, but Melina is hot and has charisma. Nitro is very innovative. I've told a few people this spot he did in a match with Cappotelli, but it bears repeating for the newer people or the ones who didn't read it:
Cappotelli was laying horizontal near the ropes. Nitro gets on the apron, taunts the crowd, then steps up onto the second rope, still facing the audience. He begins walking on the second rope taunting the crowd more. When he gets to where Cappotelli is, he backflips from that second rope facing the audience position into the ring. Cappotelli moves, but it was sweet.

It takes time, you can't just suddenly bring in loads of tag teams. You have to build up the division slowly and let it grow. If they do that, then i see a positive future for the tag division. But your right on what you say.
It's weird though, i'm sick of tag team matches, but now we had a real tag team competing in a tag team title match for once i got into the match.
Mr. Nerfect
04-26-2005, 07:13 AM
I thinkt he easiest way to rebuild the tag team division is to use current superstars to right them into storylines.
On RAW, you have Trish Stratus managing Viscera. Throw in Val Venis given Stratus' background with him, and you have a heel tag team. As for a finishing move, you could have Viscera hit the Splash on some guy, then Val Venis follows it up with The Money Shot. I can image a nice looking Blue Thunder/Splash combo as well, or even Val Venis using the Blue Thunder motion to throw the opponent into Big Vis' Embalmer finisher. Call it something like the "Mabel Syrup", with Vis going by that name at one stage, and Venis being Canadian. OK, don't call it the Mabel Syrup.
You could have Ric Flair bring in two guys to "protect" Triple H, and have it revealed they only volunteered so they could get on TV. And why not bring in some guys to serve as Bischoff's hitmen. Sort of like 3 Minute Warning, except make them stay.
On SmackDown!, you could have Kurt Angle finally lose his Gold Medal in the Invitational to a Shane Twin, who just happens to keep "falling" out of the ring. It is then revealed that there are two Shane Twins, and we have an instant feud when Kurt Angle brings in two more protoges. Or you could have roles reversed and have Johnny Jeter or Matt Cappotelli beat Kurt Angle when the the runs in to help him (I'm thinking Jeter wins, and Cappotelli runs in), and have Angle bring in a new tag team (The Shane Twins?) to serve as his avengers.
Just stuff like this allows for more of an "inpour" of tag teams, without giving off too much of the "the WWE is trying to repair its division" vibe.
Londoner
04-26-2005, 12:37 PM
^The thing is though i think they need to show us that vibe. It's created a buzz and they need to keep going with that buzz, so more new original tag teams, mainly people we havent seen before is cool, but it needs to be done carefully.
And they need to stop burying new tag teams like Maven and Simon Dean, if they have any hope of reaching their target.

Some of the things you guys are saying need to be changed are just things that make them heels by nature. Which, after all, is the point. Different tights? Different theme music? Of course that shit is annoying. It's supposed to be. An average fan might boo them for something like that.

I don't hate the thtme music, but I just thik it doesn't fit them like a glove as everything else about them seems to.
I'm all for these guys, though, and it is probably the wisest pairing in a long-time. The veteran Joey Mercury and the younger Johnny Nitro, but they look about the same age, so you can't tell the difference. That's why I think this tag team will be very beneficial to both men (and Melina).
