View Full Version : Ideas for ECW One Night Stand...

Somebody's Gotta Die

Before judging my card, yes, I do realize there are too many matches... But I'm trying to work with the overwhelming amount of talent...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

ECW One Night Stand
Commentators: Joey Styles & Paul Heyman

Barbed Wire Main Event Challenge
Terry Funk vs. Sandman

- Both have a huge history in the company... I'd put Funk over for his last big win on PPV... Both guys could embrace after a bloody match... This alone might make the show for lots of die-hard ECW fans...

Special Attraction Grudge Match
Chris Benoit vs. Sabu

- For those that remember, it was Benoit that broke Sabu's neck or vice-versa... Regardless, this match would be very exciting and I would probably put Benoit over here, although I wouldn't mind him doing the job if it's to Sabu...

Special Attraction Grudge Match
Chris Jericho vs. Taz

- They had their share of matches in ECW... I wouldn't mind seeing this one... Seeing Taz wrestle is a priviledge altogether... I'd put Taz over for sure...

Special Attraction Grudge Match
Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko

- Could make the show if both guys do their thing... I'd put either man over as long as Malenko gets a good showing in what could be his last match...

Special Attraction Grudge Match
Rhino vs. Masato Tanaka

- Both of these guys were headlining in the dying days of ECW... Give them a showing... I can see WWE definitely putting Tanaka over... I really wouldn't mind...

6-Man Tag-Team Table Match
Dudley Boyz (Bubba, D-Von, Spike) vs. Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney & Tommy Dreamer

- Dreamer is in no shape to be headlining any singles matches, therefore this type of thing can be a good way to cover up his ability... This is good especially since Dreamer has feuded with the Dudleys a lot... Dreamer-Raven would be best, though... Put Dudleys over, obviously...

Tag-Team Challenge Match
Impact Players (Lance Storm & Justin Credible) vs. Steven Richards & Al Snow

- Give the Impact Players an easy win... They could come out with Jason and Dawn Marie and the whole crew... It could be a mark out moment for those that remember this team...

Special Attraction Triangle Cruiserweight Match
Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Little Guido [I](w/Big Guido, Sal E, Smothers, Mamaluke) vs. Super Crazy

- This is the infamous ECW triangle cruiser match... I'd put Crazy over... This match truly represents some of the great days in ECW...

Cruiserweight Challenge
Rey Mysterio vs. Psicosis

- Put Rey over... Let them fly... Could be an awesome way to open the show...

Divas Match
Lita vs. Dawn Marie

- Standard women's thing... Just a quick catfight or brawl would suffice, but you know the WWE will book a match...

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

HEAT Match
Nova vs. CW Anderson

- Put Simon Dean over here... :-\

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm basing my picks for appearances on this information from Rajah.com:

Below is the updated list of talent scheduled for the ECW One Night Stand PPV on 6/12 in New York City at the Hammerstein Ballroom:

Talent Under WWE Contract Available for PPV:

Chris Benoit
Simon Dean (aka Nova in ECW)
Tommy Dreamer
Spike Dudley
The Dudley Boyz
Eddie Guerrero
Paul Heyman
Chris Jericho
Lita (aka Miss Congeniality in ECW)
Dean Malenko
Dawn Marie
Joey Matthews
Rey Mysterio
Rhyno (still under 90 day no compete at time of PPV)
Nunzio (aka Little Guido in ECW)
Psicosis
Steven Richards
Al Snow
Lance Storm
Johnny Swinger
Yoshihiro Tajiri
Tazz
Rob Van Dam
Chilly Willy (released but available for show)

Of course, there’s also Mick Foley and Steve Austin, although neither are currently signed to appeare regularly for WWE.

Outside Talent Contacted & Announced and/or Expected to Appear:

Axl Rotten
Balls Mahoney
Big Guido
Bill Alfonso
CW Anderson
Jason
JT Smith
Justin Credible
Masato Tanaka
Referee John Finnegan
Referee Mike Kehner
Referee Jim Molineaux
Sabu
Sal E. Graziano
The Sandman
Terry Funk
Tony Mamaluke
Tracy Smothers

Additional Talent Contacted but not Confirmed:

Joey Styles

Talent Contacted via TNA, but Not Expected to Appear:

Raven
Shane Douglas
Jerry Lynn

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

If RVD wasn't injured and Lynn agreed to appearing, an RVD-Lynn match would be pretty great... A Raven-Dreamer match would also be great, but it doesn't look like Raven will appear... I'd personalyl like to see Douglas on the show since he was the first "Extreme Championship Wrestling" champion, therefore his presence in the company cannot be ignored... Wrestling-wise, however, he won't contribute too much at this stage in his career...

There's really no talent on my main card that's worth removing... And it's not like he's going to get much of an ovation after his stint as Simon Dean... :-\

Easily. Replace Al Snow with Nova. This is for ECW fans. They won't cheer simon dean. But they'll cheer the hell out of nova.

I never watched ECW mainly because it wasn't available in my area until it debuted on TNN[pre-Spike TV era], as by then, most people say ECW was dead by anyway.....

I didn't see any of Taz's ECW matches[but, heard they were good] and didn't see guys like Malenko,Jericho,Benoit, Raven, and Guerrero in their ECW tenures.....

So, I really don't have any ideas as to what it[ECW] was like before the TNN ECW era. However, I did see guys like Rhyno, Corino, and RVD in their ECW primes. Rhyno was a good champion, but, probably nowhere as good as past ECW Champs. Corino was decent. And well, RVD was RVD. The one thing I never understood about RVD was why he quit doing the "Van-Terminator". That move was freakin' awesome and got the ECW chant or "Holy Shit" chant from the crowd everytime. Guess it's the safety issue that the WWE is so worried about.....

I also liked Justin Credible in his ECW days. His run in WWE sucked completely and he was watered down WAY more in WWE than he was in ECW. In ECW, Credible kicked ass. He was one of my fav champs from the TNN/ECW era and was easily one of the best heels in ECW[during the time I watched ECW on TNN anyways].

I've heard the ECW PPV will take place in July. So, I may consider buying it to see how much better[if any] it will be than the ECW/TNN type TV was.

I suppose Stevie/Nova-Impact Players would be all right... Either way... Matches like Benoit-Sabu, Sandman-Funk and Jericho-Taz (just to name a few) could make the PPV a classic...

If Raven, Joey Styles, Shane Douglas and Jerry Lynn agree to appear, that can only make matter better for the PPV...

I expect a great buyrate... If the show is good, I might actually buy the DVD... And trust me, I haven't paid for a piece of wrestling merchandise in over 3 years...

Here is my card, keep in mind I've never watched ECW (save for one event on DVD, and The Rise and Fall):

Three-Way Dance
Rhino vs. Chris Benoit vs. Chris Jericho
Winner: Chris Jericho via submission.

Singles Match
Al Snow vs. Kid Kash
Winner: Al Snow via pinfall. This is just a filler match, and if Kid Kash turns heads, maybe the WWE could offer him a place in the cruiserweight division.

Singles Match
Simon Dean vs. Mick Foley
Winner: Simon Dean via pinfall. This is a match that takes place after Simon Dean cuts one of his promos, and Foley stands-up for the slightly overweight gentleman. Maven runs in even though he has no business on the show and helps Simon Dean get the win.

Singles Match
Eddie Guerrero vs. Dean Malenko
Winner: Dean Malenko via pinfall.

Tag Team Match
The Sandman & Raven vs. Tommy Dreamer & Terry Funk
Winners: Tommy Dreamer & Terry Funk via pinfall. I'm not too sure of the storylines in ECW, and I know Sandman and Raven had a feud or two, but I think this might be an interesting match.

Triangle Ladder Match
Tajiri vs. Super Crazy vs. Nunzio
Winner: Super Crazy.

Tag Team Match
The Impact Players vs. Axl Rotten & Balls Mahoney
Winners: The Impact Players via pinfall.

Six-Man Tag Team Match
The Full Blooded Italians vs. The Dudley Boyz
Winners: The Dudley Boyz via pinfall.

Singles Match
Johnny Swinger vs. Joey Mercury
Winner: Johnny Swinger via pinfall. Hopefully we see Simon Diamond under WWE contract soon, so we could have an MNM vs. Swinger & Diamond feud for the WWE Tag Team Championship. Maybe even have Simon appear at the PPV and help Johnny pick up the win. I know a lot of people would be against this, but I wouldn't mind it if they had MNM vs. Simon Diamond & Johnny Swinger for the WWE Tag Team Championship at One Night Stand.

The Johnny Swinger Show
Since they seem to have a recent fetish for more "out-there" characters, I can see Johnny Swinger becomming a Jerry Springer parody. For some reason I wouldn't mind seeing them do this, and Stone Cold Steve Austin being the "Steve" to Johnny's "Jerry". Dawn and Lita are the guests, but Mercury comes out and says they have no class, etc. This leads to the above match.

Singles Match
Rey Mysterio vs. Psichosis
Winner: Psichosis via pinfall.

Chris F'N Benoit V. Lance F'N Storm

Eddie F'N Guerrero V. Yoshihiro F'N Tajiri

Those matches would be off the hook.

Sucks that Rob Van Dam will not be able to have a match

:-\ We've seen Guerrero-Tajiri before and in its toned down WWE-style, the match is good at best... If they went all out, it could definitely be something else though...

Okay, I'm doing this based on the list of performers provided in the first post, and pretending that everyone is healthy or willing to work even after being cut.

Also, this is all wishful thinking, so no criticizing with "That would never happen!"

ECW Title Match
Rhino vs. Rob Van Dam

What better way to catapult a returning RVD to the top of the card than to have him finally win his first "World" title? WWE has already pissed on Rhino enough, why not take away the one last thing he has going for him at this point - his status as the last ECW Champion?

Legends Tag Match
Mick Foley and Terry Funk vs. Steve Austin and Shane Douglas

This protects these four guys, who are not in ring shape anymore. It's a nice nostalgia match, and the tag format will help hide the rust. I would put Foley and Funk over, but let Austin stun everyone (including Douglas) after the match.

Four-Way Dance
Jerry Lynn vs. Super Crazy vs. Yoshihiro Tajiri vs. Little Guido

These guys would absolutely tear the roof off of the Hammerstein. Especially if they went with ECW "Dance" rules, wherein it goes until all but one man has been pinned. Let Crazy go over to introduce him to the WWE crowd.

Lucha Libre Dream Match
Rey Misterio Jr. vs. Psicosis

This one speaks for itself. Five-stars written all over it. Rey Rey would probably win.

Six-Man Tag
The Dudleys (Bubba, D-Von, and Spike) vs. The Impact Players (Lance Storm, Justin Credible, and JT Smith)

Ignore the fact that all of these guys are heels, and just let them beat the shit out of each other.

Stairway To Hell
The Sandman vs. Raven

Remembering the last S2H match... :shudder: I would put Raven over but, since he's with TNA, he'll probably lose.

Ultimate Grudge Match
Taz vs. Sabu

This was easily one of the top ten feuds of the 1990s. You really believed that they hated each other. Maybe end this one with a Tazplex spot like the ones in the Taz/Bam Bam matches.

20-Man "ECW Invitational" Battle Royal
CW Anderson, Chris Benoit, Big Guido, Chilly Willy, Tommy Dreamer, Sal E. Graziano, Eddy Guerrero, Jason, Chris Jericho, Balls Mahoney, Dean Malenko, Tony Mamaluke, Joey Matthews, Nova, Stevie Richards, Axl Rotten, Tracey Smothers, Al Snow, Johnny Swinger, and Masato Tanaka

This lets them use the rest of their talent without taking match segments away from the "main card." Maybe they could contest it under Royal Rumble rules, which would allow some old ECW rivalries/friendships to come out. It would be awesome if Tommy Dreamer could win this, but it'd probably be either Benoit, Guerrero, or Jericho.

What's the word on some of the guys not on the list? Simon Diamond? Mikey Whipwreck? The Sinister Minister (James Mitchell)? "Primetime" Brian Lee? Chris Chetti? Danny Doring? Perry Saturn? Bam Bam Bigelow?

I haven't really been keeping up with this very closely, so forgive me if it's old news that, say, Saturn said "no" to his invitation.

What's the point of having Dean going over Eddie? He's not on the active roster anymore.

Give him one last thing to be proud of before retiring... Could also be a classic... Really depends what kind of ring shape Malenko is in... I think putting battle royals on the show is kind of pointless... RVD isn't on my show because he is injured... Lynn probably won't show... Austin and Foley probably won't compete... And Douglas and Raven are not great options for the show at this point... This all depends on other deals that WWE could confirm...

If Raven does indeed make the show, Dreamer-Raven would tell a better story... They should definitely air a history of all the matches on the show since most of my matches have a certain history within the company... The only thing missing from my show, in my opinion, is Shane Douglas (although he's not in the best shape of his career), Lynn-RVD (since one is refusing to show and another one is injured) and Dreamer-Raven (although this can change if Raven does indeed show)...

Foley-Funk would be the ideal main event for me, but I highly doubt it will happen... I wouldn't be surprised to see Austin and Foley on the show although I highly doubt it will be in a wrestling role...

 Whatever, he said he never watched ECW...

Either way, WWE can put together a true classic show if they book it right because they have a lot of talent already and if they can get the likes of Raven, Sandman, Sabu, Funk and Douglas to show, it would be something else...

That's why he's not on my card... If this was a dream show, I would have obviously included Jerry Lynn-RVD... However, that doesn't look likely... RVD should definitely make some kind of appearance perhaps helping Sabu defeat Chris Benoit with Bill Alfonso... This can set up an RVD-Benoit program... This show can serve as a good way to create new feuds and bring some heat to talents that are being completely misused or are becoming non-existent factors...

First off, Raven and Shane Douglas can't appear on ECW One Night Stand because they are both signed to TNA and also that Douglas is putting on his own ECW reunion show. Also this is the 10 yr. anniversary of Benoit breaking Sabu's neck so a rematch would be a way for Sabu to get back at Benoit. Finally an appearance by Beulah and Francine would be classic I think, but Beulah has said she is done with wrestling.

PureHatred

Actually, TNA has most of its workers (everyone but JJ I believe) signed to open contracts. They're paid per appearance and so can work any other shows they like. That's why a lot of their performers still make appearances for JAPW, RoH, etc...

Since Raven has posted it on his own website and Douglas' appearance was mentioned on Meltzer's webite, I'm going to go out on alimb and say that both men will more than likely be there.

But thank you for at least trying to appear well-informed.

WWE will screw it up anyways. Period. I really hope they dont, just have a sick feeling they will, yea, anyone remember last time they tried to run the ECW thing in WWE... yea Steph was the "owner"... GAH!! I just really dont wanna my hopes up to high on this one.

You forgot to add HHH coming in, burying everybody on the show and pissing on the ECW title. It's inevitable.

But seriously, if they do include Triple H (Which for some reason I have this gut feeling that he'll be there) that will suck ass.

OK, i really think that for the last ECW PPV all of ECWs specialty matches should be used. I would really love to see another stairway to hell match, as well as a barbed wire rope match, a scaffold match (my personal favorite), a balcony match, among others. I think that would really get alot of ECW fans' attention and make it the biggest ECW PPV ever, even if it is only for one night.
