1. Bret Hart
2. Sting
3. The Rock
4. Undertaker (before he became a lazy arsehole)
5. Chris Jericho
I'm not good at explanations, these are just the names that sprang to mind. :-\

Since we're "starting" a company, my first criteria was picking guys who were just as capable of being a heel as a face:
1. Kurt Angle - the day after he retires he goes down as the greatest over-all performer in the history of wrestling.
2. Ric Flair - the greatest over-all performer in wrestling history until Kurt Angle retires.
3. The Rock - greatness on the mic, underrated in the ring
4. Hulk Hogan - superior mic work and naturally charismatic. I think people forget that as over as Hogan was as the Hulkster, he was just as villified as nWo Hogan. When one man can be called one of the Most Popular and Most Hated wrestlers ever, I think he's a must.
5. Bret Hart- Technically perfect. Bret makes up for whatver in-ring deficiencies Rocky and Hulk have. Hart v Rock would outdraw anything ever IMO.

Ric Flair - Probably the greatest all-around worker the industry has ever seen. In his prime, no one could touch him as far as match quality, and his promos remain among the most entertaining in the business. Capable of playing either the most despicable heel or the most over babyface.
Shawn Michaels - Despite attitude problems, HBK is still, imo, the second greatest in-ring competitor ever. In his prime, he could put on a five-star match with a bag of gravel (see: HBK v. Sid). Equally adept at brawling, technical wrestling, and aerial acrobatics.
Kurt Angle - The single greatest athlete to ever step into a wrestling ring. The things this man can do sometimes defy description. Despite starting relatively late in life, he mastered the intricacies of the ring almost immediately. As close to perfect as anyone I've seen.
Ted Dibiase - Possibly the greatest heel I've ever seen (not counting going back and watching old videos). Able to work as a wrestler, a manager, or an announcer. Despite being held down on a Chris Benoit_style level, still managed to become one of the all-time greats.
Lou Thesz - Mostly for curiosity's sake. Just to see if he could possibly be as good as everything I've read about him makes him out to be.

1) Hulk Hogan- Most over wrestler ever
2) HBK- Showstopper
3) Kurt Angle- One hell of a wrestler
4) HHH- Ya I know but he is the best heel in the buisness
5) Randy Orton- Grooming the young gun

Ric Flair
Bret Hart
Shawn Michaels
Kurt Angle
Steve Austin
5 of the best talents EVER, they are all charismatic and are well known. It hurts not to put Chris Jericho but, he would be in the top 10.

Giant Gonzales: The greatest ring attire of ALL TIME.
Viscera: Squashes the men... 'Squashes' the women. :naughty:
Mark Henry: Looks like a Predator, only without the nasty teeth.
Nathan Jones: Performs a better sitting big boot than Tyson Tomko.
Gene Snitsky: Don't know why he's on the list... But it isn't his fault.

I like loopy's choices of Thesz and Dibiase. Dibiase was a great wrestler and a real victim of the era of roided up giants in the WWF.
And I just like Thesz because he was the champ in an era where being the champ meant you had tobe able to really handle yourself because promoters in different territories were looking to steal the belt for their region by basically blindsiding you. Legit bad-asses are always good.

Awesome post loopydate. Rep to you.
My choices
Kurt Angle: Great athelete and a good company spokesperson. His abilities as a performer are bare none. He can wrestle and he can promo with the best of them. His ability to articulate thoughtfully as a spokeperson shouldn't be overlooked. Can be both heel or face.
Bret Hart: For most of the very reaons mentioned about Kurt Angle. Being able to count on guys to perform their very best everytime and be professional about their image and job.
Andre the Giant: The oddity that makes people tune in. He doesn't have to be a super athelete or mic speaker, he's simply unusual and that 'curiosity factor' will get you viewers.
The Rock: His good looks, size and once again mic performance are a huge selling point. Hell, even knowing that he will leave to make movies at some point in his career, is ok as this will get your name out there. Perhaps the best at ab-libbing on the mic. Entertainment value in the ring, while not pure like an Angle or Hart are awesome.
There's so many other guys I could put in the list, but my fifth choice would have to be.
Hulk Hogan: Predictable choice I know, but what can you say. Unable to really wrestle, but that never stopped him from being the most over performer the sport has ever known. Again, able to sell the product doing interviews or just playing it up on the mic. I don't think enough people give him credit for being the most depised heel of perhaps all time.

Mr. JL
04-29-2005, 07:51 PM
AJ Styles: Young, talented, high flyer combined with technical wrestling ability. The FUTURE. The underdog that everyone rallies behind.
Bret Hart: The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be. Best babyface in WWF history. Not too mention best WWF Champion in history.
Kurt Angle: Bret Harts equal. Except he is the best heel.
Rob Van Dam: The EC F'N W ... Whole Fucking Show. With all the technical wrestlers around you need to be able to present a different style to your fans. EC F'N W RVD is just that.
Shawn Michaels: Come on, Hart V. Michaels one more time would be fucking HUGE for an upstart promotion.

1. Bret Hart - We're going to need a strong face. Someone who can be moralist, but will still pound your face into the canvas. Bret is a great wrestler, and can garner a following with relative ease. If you watch his wrestling style, sometimes he almost looks like he's working heel. That will come off well with today's crowds.
2. 2000 Era HHH - The unbeatable heel. Absolutely ruthless, but respected for his skill in the ring. Other wrestlers will talk shit about him, until he makes them eat their words and his fists. The fanse will love it.
3. Early Crow Era Sting - The enigma. He will have no allegiances. His motives are unknown to everyone. The perfect tweener.
4. 1980s Jake The Snake Roberts - He can work both heel and face. His promos are intense and even though he's all old school, I'm pretty sure he'd be well over with today's crowd.
5. Chris Jericho - This guy gets the crowd going, period. There is no one better at that than him right now. Sure, other people get bigger pops, but he is consistent. And that's what we need. Another guy who could make a pop tart look like a 5 * wrestler. Great as both heel and face.

Bret - THE GREATEST ever.
80s-early 90s Flair - Unbelievablely good. Hart/Glair (if done right, aka FUCK YOU VINCE) would be the greatest thing ever.
Angle - PURE talent, great on the stick, the total package
DiBiase - Blows my mind, he's above average (at worst) in the ring and SUPERB on the stick.
Chris Daniels - THE most talent cruiser-type wrestler I've ever seen. Another guy that's genius on the stick.

Are you saying those guys won't draw?
You could pick any 5 guys and you take Brock, Cena, Orton with 3 of those picks.
Then you ask me if they can draw... Implying they can, when they can't.
Also, I hate to coax a proper reply out of you. Why couldn't you just go ahead and do that from the start.

Are you saying those guys won't draw?
You completely missed the point of the thread.
Also, The only worker of your 5 who is top class as far as ability is Jericho. Brock is up there, but can't put it all together. Orton flat out screams "bland", and the other 2 are above average at best. But if you want a talking show, you've got a fairly good lineup.

The Rock - greatest ever on the mic, tons of charisma, great in the ring and can draw non-wrestling fans into watching the program. Could be the best face or heel easily
Hulk Hogan - could play the ultimate face or heel and has by far the most charisma out of any other wrestler alive.
Bret Hart - to keep wrestling a sport. to target the people who prefer technical wrestling to entertainment. could play a great face
Kurt Angle - best athlete in the history of the business. today's best. so good in every category. Could play the heel to perfection
Shawn Michaels - the best at one time. great mix of everything could keep people watching with a guarantee 4 star match or promo

Well when I posted I was thinking the 5 guys of today and I think if I got those 5 I could be in a better contending posistion then than TNA is to the WWE. I'm sure I could pick matt up and RVD might come my way also however even though he may not draw he'd be good to have. I am also hurting the WWE more then others, Hmm I'd probably change my pick from Orton to Angle because that would hurt them more. Others are picking people like Dibiase, Daniels, lou, they would not draw even as much as Cena because they are older and not many people would know about them.

Hulk Hogan - Namesake.
Bret Hart - In my opinion the greatest of all time and can have a great match with anybody.
"Mr. Perfect" Curt Hennig - Been around everywhere and can work with the best of them.
"Macho Man" Randy Savage - As far as I'm concerned, nobody out-performs Savage at 'Mania not HBK as everyone likes to believe. Hogan vs. Savage could probably get a good buyrate.
"Stone Cold" Steve Austin - Finally have the match with Hogan to draw buckets of money. Plus he's absolute gold on the mic and pit him against Hennig or in another rematch with Hart....wrestling clinics.
Honorable mentions - Christian, Chris Benoit, AJ Styles and Shelton Benjamin - Need some people to carry it into the next plateau.

Rock If I'm starting a company right now, this is the first guy I call by a mile. He's the greatest wrestling-hollywood crossover ever. Everyone should know who The Rock is by now. He's going to bring in a ton of fans and a ton of money for me. My company would be built around him every show.
80's Hulk Hogan Same as Rock really. The Babe Ruth of wrestling. Although I'm not to sure how well the gimmick would go over in this day, he's still got more charisma in eye lash then 85% of guys out there.
Austin Brings that tough ass attitude that people love in this day and age. Austin is the hard working class man that wants to kill his boss most wrestling fans can identify with that. Need him.
Bret Brings in the fans from all around the world, as the man is a prophet in some places. Brings the technical wrestling aspect to my product for the "wrestling" fans.
Flair Kind of brings everything together with all the guys great qualities mentioned above. Great on mic, Great in ring, Great charisma and Great attitude if you let him show it. Plus the south loves him.
HBK/ANGLE I'm not leaving them off as I just can't. Angle is going to go down as the best overall preformer in history. HBK worked his ass off in the ring and still shows that he can still out preform others 10 years later.

Perry Saturn - He's a great technician, and poses a great heel aura. Good worker, has the abililty to do power moves and fast takedown moves. Good on the mic.
Super Crazy - Everything you want in a light heavyweight guy. Instant face, high flyer, good technician aswell. Because he's not too small, he could be pushed as a top contender, but small enough to have the underdog image.
Chris Sabin - He's still learning. He could be great one day, he just needs to learn more from some guys like Saturn.
Tazz - Whether he's wrestling or commentating, it doesn't matter what he does, because he does both quite well. His wrestling is better than his commentating though, but he can use his commentating skills for promo work. Him, Saturn and Crazy could all have great feuds together, and all 3 can be booked as the feds top superstars.
Rob Van Dam - Great face on the mic or in the ring. Although I wouldn't push him as a top contender at first, I would use him to get the crowd excited. Again, great worker.

I think when starting a new fed too, that has to rival with the bigger ones, you need Superstars that havn't used many "Shock Factor" cards.
You take a guy like Bret Hart. One of the most celebrated and respected athletes ever. As a booker in a new fed, it would be harder to book him, because he's done so many things in the buiseness that it's hard to come up with a new thing for him. And, since everybody has seen him do everything, it would take away that shock factor that new feds need.
The problem with RAW today is that there pretty much is no shock factor in the main title scene, which you need to build a foundation on the rest of the show.
That's why I chose guys with relatively low status's. They still have the ability together to do some out-of-the-blue stuff, while still being able to keep people interested. When these guys were wrestling, they were sitting on top of a foundation, and still holding their part in the structure well (minus Sabin), so for that reason, I chose these guys.

Bret Hart [face]: The #1 face in wrestling for many years, and unlike his predicessor (Hulk) and Successor (Austin), he's the best wrestler in WWE/WWF History.
Badass Undertaker [Heel]: Something about him, whenever he came out, made me think "Awesome, someone's getting their teeth punched in!" Monster heel.
Chris Benoit [Heel]: Even though I like him as a face, with his attitude, he's definately make a great heel in the company. Make him jealous of the top face because Benoit isn't getting the respect he deserves, and go crazy to take the belt away (Angry crazy, not Edge crazy)
Kurt Angle [Heel]: I would, however, think of something better than the Angle invitational.
Christian [Face]: I haven't seen him as a face since well before Invasion, and that was in a tag team with Edge *sucks*. I'm tired of seeing the same stuff over and over again with him as a heel. I think he has a lot of potential to be a main eventer, but as a face.

Bret Hart - He's Bret Hart, enough said
Shawn Michaels - So Bret could beat him senseless, no seriously the man in his prime was one of the greatest ever
The Rock - Possibly the most charismatic wrestler ever especially as a heel, not bad in the ring either
Sting - One of the few faces who never got stale, great wrestler and pretty good on the mic
Kanyon - I got 2 faces, 2 heels so why not have a guy who can bring exciting matches every night, put a guy over and flip good/bad at the drop of a hat. PLus he is flat out entertaining.

Well,
The Hulkster might be a bit biased on this, but here's who I would choose:
1) Hulk Hogan (me!): Arguably the most popular wrestler of all-time brother. I'm good for live crowds dude.
2) The Rock: It takes a legend to know a legend, and The Rock can still draw big time brother.
3) Chris Benoit: The greatest technical wrestler alive today.....that doesn't have health problems, or isn't an old fart. That's why he gets the nod over Angle and HBK. The foundation of the WWE, lies within its wrestling. The WWE is in the sports-entertainment business, but you need the 'wrestling' as the back bone.
4) John Cena: The most popular active wrestler in the WWE today brother.
5) Eddie Guerrero: A great wrestler who is also popular. Guerrero taps in to the Latino market.

If I started a fed, it would be like a hybrid of RoH and ECW so here goes:
Christopher Daniels: At around 210 pounds, he is a superb technician and high flyer, who also has a good ring psychology and a great gimmick.
Kurt Angle: The most versatile wrestler since Ric Flair, hands down. He can do anything in the ring and works well with everyone.
Bret Hart: Simply the best.
Jake Roberts: He would be my Raven style heel
Steve Corino: He plays a great heel and uses the Japanese Strong Style, which would add some variety to the matches.
